The semi-finalists in the Golden Lions’ league for large schools have been determined after the weekends’ matches. The teams who finished in the top 3 positions on the log will go through with Helpmekaar College, who goes through as the top team. This is by agreement with the other schools and the union. This means that the teams who finished first and second will play against each other and Helpmekaar will play against the team who finished in third position on the log.
The teams who win their semi-finals will play in the final on 26 July 2014, i.e. after the school holidays. Both finalists will thereafter represent the Golden Lions in the Beeld trophy for large schools.
Every school who participated in the league is represented in the semi-finals. Linden and Alberton have three teams each and Randburg has two. Riebeeckrand, Jan Viljoen, Dinamika and Bastion have one each. As Linden’s first XV finished first on the log with 29 points (out of a possible 30), the semi-finals will be played at Linden on Saturday 21 June 2014. The program for the day is as follows:
