Western Cape: first big weekend of 2014 season

Western Cape schoolboy rugby will be at peak activity this Saturday, 12 March. The televised game between Paul Roos and Grey High (PE) will be an option for everyone to watch. However the live game for neutrals to get to must surely be Bishops versus Boland Landbou, while those close enough to Riversdale cannot go wrong by headingto the ground just outside the town to see the huge match between Oakdale and Paarl Gymnasium, which could go a long way to defining the Western Cape Top 5 this year.

@Tandem: As Forest Gump said, Shit Happens. Gim played a great game. Powerful pack and more than capable backline. Havent seen Boishaai play this year yet, but I predict a thriller come August.

@BuiteBreek: What did I told you my friend ? I was just smiling when
some bloggers were predicting a 15 point loss for Boishaai . On what grounds ? And also suddenly no one rated Gym ?

@Tierklou: Waar is julle o14c span?

Tyd sal leer……..

@BuiteBreek: Is 31 /12 nie vermorsel in jou boek nie. So ” lekker ” afrikaanse woord wat in my rugby woordeskat gemaklik inpas. Boyshigh gaan ‘n grootte wees Saterdag,..Kwaggas met 10 in my boek.

@Toffee: Although local derbies are always tough, I think this Wynberg team is a special side and will be right up there this year – I think they will have way to much in the tank for Rondebosch

I will be heading to watch the Rondebosch/Wynberg game (anything to take my mind of the dire Stormers). I think as usual it will be a close game. I will also try to get to the under 14 game to see what talent is coming through.

@Tandem: Like you said its unpredictable. And Gim beating Oakdale comfortably? Not to sure about that one. Someone else used words like “vermorsel” on another thread and ended up with egg on his face. (sorry)

But only time will tell. Looking forward to watch that game. And Boland and Bishops? That is a tough one to call.

I back our boys to get the win against Grey High this weekend, but have a sneaky feeling it might be a bit smaller than the 15 point prediction.paarl gym & paarl boys have very tough away games against tricky opponents . I’d back Bishops to get the win simply because of home advantage & the little bit I saw at Newlands Day recently.

I also think that the prediction of Paul Roos over Grey High by 15 points is too much. I think it will be a very close game. Oakdale will be a tough nut to crack this year. Very good u/16 group last year coupled with a strong grade 11 (2013) group.

Rugby is such an unpredictable sport and although we will obviously have to wait and see I really believe Boishaai may just do better than your prediction . The Boishaai team has been very hard hit by injuries to star players but the team will give everything and if the score does not go Boishaai ‘s way then it will not be for a lack of trying . I also think Gym will beat Oakdale comfortably . Bishops vs Landbou will be the one game which is very tough to call .
