@Bosveldpa: Yes, in 2012 Abongile Nonkontwana played for the Bulls AW team. At the end of the AW, a few players (maybe four?) were selected to join the large pool of potential SA schools players. I think that he was the only AW player that eventually made it to the final SA schools squad. In 2013 he played for the Bulls CW team and made the SA schools team again. In 2014 he was selected for the SA u20 team that is currently playing at the IRB Junior RWC.

Het dit al gebeur in die verlede dat ‘n speler(s) uit die Akademie spanne in die SA Skolespan geland het?

@Roger: I haven’t seen the final selections, but the shadow A squad seems OK, with seven from Monnas, four from Jeppe, a couple from Helpmekaar and a few of Bennies Zimbabweans. That said, does anyone know why the other Zim from from Bennies, who ran the 100m in 10.6 in gr8 and who is currently playing for the 1st team, did not make it?

@Vleis: is this the best Lions team – Jeppe and Monnas are top 4 in the country at U16 level. Theoretically a combination of those teams should hammer most at Gramt Khomo? I saw very few Jeppe boys in the side?

Ons hou ten minste by ons bepalings wat volgens die reels is…

@ROOIBUL: I am not entirely sure what the rule is… I know within pretoria if a boy moves after 1 May he is only allowed to play for his new school the next year… not sure what the rule is outside of pretoria…

I’ll be very interested to see how KZN do v the Lions at GK on day 1. On paper, KZN will be on the receiving end of a big hiding…but perhaps the whole will be greater than the sum of the parts for KZN. I may pop over to watch.

As far as I understand they are re-writing the rule books.

Can someone please tell me, what is the new rule? If a player moves between schools in the middle of the season during a competition. Can he play for the new schools team during that season? If not, where can I find the correct info?

@Grasshopper: Doubt any of the schools are already sorted 100%. The last minute haggling for bursaries goes on till the cut-off days for final acceptance. Which ever school has that date first starts the countdown. Those that you think are done and dusted disappear in a flash, with the private schools generally wielding the biggest “stick”.

@beet: Going to be great to watch this spectical. Day 1 going to be very hard as the SWD side is made up of Oakdale and Outeniqua boys with one from Outdshoorn and those sides are highly rated again this year. If we get through that hurdle then it is probably Province on the Wednesday. From the fat to the fire. Character building to say the least but that is why they play this game. To test one’s ability against the best.

@Roger: A little bit of info. Kearsney grade 8 intake for 2015 already sorted. You will find that the majority if not all the scholarships and bursaries will go to local lads. That is where it ends.

Die 2014 o/18 Akademie week word in Worcester gehou, nie Wellington. HTS Drostdy is die gasheer. Net so lekker plek, net annerkant die berg.

The Craven Week Tuesday Group looks like the tougher of the two with Free State, the Bulls, the Lions and EP all fighting it out.

KZN has an opportunity to be in a Wednesday play-off for a spot in the unofficial final.

@Predator: Interessant: hoe lank is Ian al daar in George ?

Jammer daaroor !!

@Woltrui: The air in the area of Middelburg and Witbank was tested in Apr 2013 and it was found to be the most poisonous in the world. Apparently the newest testing equipment could not measure the levels. Must be like a poker night in the garage.
Strange that factors like this is not taken into account when organising tournaments of this magnitude. Apparently also one of the main reasons why the Pumas decided to move to Nelspruit.

@BoishaaiPa: @ Beet: Although the Paarl Gym u16 and the Boishaai u15 Tournaments are still popular, the SA’s for athletics are for instance over the same period this year, so some teams may miss some star players that will feature at GK.

@BoishaaiPa: Ill be attending that tournament for my first time this year. I’m really looking forward to watching all the boys from the big rugby schools.

The Academy Week was hosted in Wellington in 2012 – it is quite strange that it will be in Wellington again this year. I can remember there was a quite a lot of rain beforehand but it stopped a few days before the tournament and the weather was fine during the tournament.

@BoishaaiPa: For sure the scouts for after school rugby love the Gim u16 tournament but Grant Khomo has definitely become the favourite hunting ground of the School Player Poaching Fraternity. Small schools with kids at Grant Khomo are at huge risk of losing these players to other schools with much bigger rugby budgets

@Buffel: Jeez to send the kids to Middelburg in the middle of July is tantamount to sending Russian kids to Siberia. What the fnukcs were the organisers thinking? Imagine how the poor Middelburg boys must feel who thought they would be able to escape the coalmines for a week?

@Ploegskaar: The best stage for viewing u/16 talent is right here in Paarl with Gim’s u/16 tournament…By the time the GK comes along they are only looking for gap fillers..most of the boys will have been signed or sighted by the scouts in April already!

@Buffel: Of greater concern is the GK week in Pretoria, a bit like sending the sheep to play in the lion’s den, if ever. Most WP, Boland, SWD and Border schools will have to make do without their star U/17 players next year….

They do find some very attractive and interesting places to host Craven week for u 18’s. Come now-Middleburg. Last year Polekwane. How about the major centres. Am sure the boys and watching public would far rather be in Pretoria,Jozi,Durbs etc. You get the jist of it. Wellington is going to be great, and wet.
