DHS assignment for Donald Ngwenya

Former Northwood 1st XV coach and current Durban youth rugby coach Donald Ngwenya has been appointed as the new DHS under-16 coach. This means he takes charge of DHS’s all-important 150th birthday 1st XV in 2016 group this season. No pressure! No ways! All the pressure in the world for sure.

With former DHS Head of Rugby Dru Nass (now at Queen’s College Boys Primary School) suddenly resigning last year, it derailed DHS’s plans somewhat. Now ‘School’ is looking to bounce back and they need a coach that can hit the ground running. No doubt this under-16 job is bound to have a lot of DHS supporters attention focused on it. Donald’s progress will be closely monitored. DHS had worked really hard to get this group together as under-14’s a couple of years back. That 2012 under-14 season was an excellent one. 2013 did not quite go according to plan, with the team losing a few players. So it’s feasible to believe that Donald has been set the goal of getting the squad back to winning ways and back on track to making 2016 a memorable and success 150th birthday year.

    @HORSEFLY NO.1: A great team. I thought there were some EC recruits, but well done to DHS if that is the case.

    @star: I never said that, just said Westville’s ‘bought’ dominance will wane as other schools offer bursaries in aquatics and get decent coaching. It will take another 3 years to topple Westville….it maybe Glenwood or another school like Grey Bloem or PBHS, but these things can’t last forever….Man Utd seem to have hit a wall now…

    @ Grassy- What schools? I think most schools although I think GW was a front runner. Several GW commenters have said that GW was going big into aquatics and ” watch this space” with Derek at the helm and other notables being included. Nothing wrong with that as competition is the spice of life. I will however refer to your response when I posted that Westvilles 2013 Open swimming team was the fastest ever produced( even eclipsing Chad’s year). Your response was along the lines of enjoy it as it will be Westville’s last undefeated team. Might be true ( or not :mrgreen: )

    @star: I think 2015 is the year of some sort of parity for DHS, 4 years of decent intake. They still need to build the depth and no of teams…

    @ Horsy- Yes Welcome back. I think this year will be the first step for DHS to gain some equilibrium. All the best for 2014. Also as you are quite the aquatics boff what is your take on the first two galas of the year. I am curious as some schools have been pumping their aquatics programs and I am wondering whether expectations have been met.

    @Ballie:
    14/15 starting members were all from within KZN.

    Would be interesting to know how many of those 2012 U14’s are local boys.

    Well done Donald. I’m convinced that Donald will be able to accomplish this task. His rugby knowledge is equally matched with his knowledge of dealing with rugby players. The next few years are going to be interesting.

    Donald is probably the highest qualified coach in KZN . A humble man that will bring the best out of the DHS boys. Why he doesn’t take the 1st XV this year is a mystery .They are a talented bunch of boys and results are what the people linked to the school crave for. This group of boys are going to turn some heads and don’t be surprised if they pull off a couple of great wins in the process. He could take the 1st team and overlook the progress of the u16’s. Anyway it is a coup and good luck to him.
