The Witness Newspaper ranks the KZN rugby Top 10 for 2013

Not too long ago the KZN Traditional Schools function was held. Kearsney was awarded the team of the year prize. The organisers however seemed to come up with a pretty messed up ranking that saw Westville and Hilton unfairly done in. One blogger was spot on, it was a case of a bit of credibility lost as a result of the inaccuracies.
Thankfully we are able to turn to Mike Hill, one of the legends of school rugby in the province. Mike does a lot of relevant SBR reporting for the Witness newspaper and this is the what he came up with:
My rankings of the top 10 KZN schools is based mainly on scores against the others in the top 10. It also includes points for and against in all matches and some influence of the schools that have played others in the top 40 in the country.
This is my ranking which was published last week in The Witness.

1 Kearsney 6.3
2 Westville  6.1
3 Glenwood 5.3
4 Hilton 4.6
5 Maritzburg College 4.5
6 Michaelhouse 3.2
7 George Campbell 2.1
8 Northwood 1.9
9 St Charles 1.6
10 DHS 1.3

@Rhino: sorry to hear your dad is unwell, hope he gets better soon. Seriously, well done to Westville on a good season, it would have been great if they had played and beaten Glenwood & Kearsney. Next year will be very interesting, hoping the Westville game is at Glenwood…

@Amalekite: For sure, I agree with you – KC line up this year was very poor! Do not understand why their fixture list does not include stronger schools.

When I was at PBHS, not that long ago, KC was a regular on our fixture list – not sure why that has changed.

Having spoken to some of the players, they are also not satisfied that they were tested enough this season

I can offer only this, that it is identical to the points system matrix that I drew up, except that I excluded St Charles from the matrix because they did not play all teams.

And …. that the Witness article was written by Mike Hill, a College legend … so of course it is right 8) 8)

I just hope that my comments have not unduly restrained you, because normally, the handbags, high heels and hairpins, would be flying by now. Anything we can do to “encourage dialogue” ? – like DP, some 6 inch nails some studded leather belts, maybe?

@RBugger: No arguments – well done!
Just a great pity that you guys did not play Outeniqua and Grey Bloem at the KERF with your much vaunted team. This was the perfect year for Kearsney to go for bigger challenges.

@ Amalekie- and Kearsney’s best away wins were St Stithians and St Charles who are not in the top 50. We are being gracious indeed.
@ RBugger- how do you know we did not throw the 40 minute trial matches to confuse the masses? Did College not play their effective 3rd team? Sometimes you must not show too much of your hand too early. It seems to have worked.

@AMALEKITE: But we beat you guys at Kingspark no… Surely, as you guys were just so good this year, that must then rank as our best win??

Or did you guys just throw that game or maybe gave us a chance as the Doops were not playing hahahahaha

    KC deserve number 1

@Grasshopper: Thanks Grassy. Yeah, we will also be gracious and let Kearsney enjoy the glory of no.1 even though their best win was against the no. 20 side

I wonder who the blogger was that has links to Westville and Hilton
@ Grassy – we will accept 2nd place as a minimum deal. We have to keep this thing alive as Bog has already splurged on his popcorn and virgin coke and what else does he have to look forward to in the city of roses.

    @ The Witness Newspaper………….

True Reflection at last…………. i mean we as in Westville could argue that you cant actually give a no.1 spot as WBHS and KC never played each other due to being flooded and then also again WBHS never played GW ( GW chose to decline..not us ) so its pretty much not 100% but………BUT yep overall i would say that is fair…..and will accept…….. truth be told 2013 will be a who knows year in the nitty gritty stakes as i honestly believe we would have beaten KC at Bowdens(westville) grounds as hostory speaks for itself…………. KC havent beaten us in like 10 years i think on Bowdens… and we were on a huge roll………. as were they…….. anhow.. Well done KC……. i call it our brother school from another mother… and cause us wbhs folks all have mates and family that go to KC or have been etc.. aka my Dad… big ups!
