@JeppeZimD (Comment #29)
He has the coolest name in schoolboy rugby though…
@beet (Comment #8)
@beet (Comment #8)
We have 6 u17 in the Welpies side, coupled with 4 in the Main/ Academy sides and u16 pivot Mbhalati in Grant Khomo. Augurs well for good Jeppe team for 2026
@Raps (Comment #23)
All the best for Ty Ax (his dad and I where in the same Jeppe class), though it will be tough with Westville’s Siyaya and Grey’s Mgedezi both vying for the 15 Jumper
@Raps (Comment #27)
I know Fichies quite well ,klein Fichies is an excellent school,they used to play agains my son’s primary school
Worth noting Fichardtpark do not have a boarding house so every player they field is from the surrounding area, they have a feeder primary school though which massively helps. The point I’m trying to make is that Grey 3rds is still a difficult outfit, the only school that could give Grey 1st xv a challenge in Bloemfontein was HTS Louis Botha before their fall from grace
@wanza_15 (Comment #22)
I am not sure about Mjiji in the Second team, he has played in the 1st XV every game I have seen this season. He has been one of the most consistent players – I am surprised the 14 from KES is not in the side. I thought he was in the team last year – is he u19 this year?
@Raps (Comment #23)
Fichies took 60 against the Grey 3rd team this past weekend wich is unfortunate…
@SB Rugby (Comment #14)
I only watch the Jeppe games and so I can’t really comment on all the fly halves in Gauteng, but I agree with you on the Jeppe fly half. I don’t see what everyone else sees other than a deadly accurate boot.
I wonder what’s the deal with the lock from Jeppe Lagan Leisher, massive kid and has huge potential. Very pleased to see Eugene De Lange from Helpmekaar, same with the Jeppe hooker Funeka, both super underrated. Honestly surprised there is even 1 Monument rep. Strong suspicion Ty Ax has moved from 13 to 15 in the last couple games because of competition at national level. Now waiting for the anti climatic Free State CW team where it’s basically the whole Grey xv with Xander Smit at hooker and flanker from Fichardpark Biko Mhali in the mix
@Roger (Comment #13)
I agree. But then isn’t there a day (or 2) everyone comes together and they play trials against each other at Ellis Park or something? And they try not consider or even know where you went to school? I think this is how sometimes you have a guy who plays 2nd team at school but makes a provincial team, that is actually the case here, the Academy Week 14 Mjiji plays 2nd team for us, so he must have arrived at trials with a point to prove. The point is do you think they really try and give a fair “shot” to everyone who arrives on trial day?
Maybe (Probably) I am naive to think this. Like if an Amadi had a bad trial day and someone from Randburg High had a very good day, they’d pick the Randburg guy over him? No way right?
@Kaya 85 (Comment #18)
Fair enough. Would be very interesting to know the stats by year. Looking at the GK team it looks like the next two years should be an improvement for Monument
@Strepie (Comment #12)
If the Wineland schools played for Boland (as they should) WP would be making zero finals – ever! Boland would be dominating !
@Strepie (Comment #17)
1. Jooste (HJS)*
2. Rabe (PRG)
3. Van der Merwe (HJS)
4. Turner (Gim)
5. Joubert (HJS)
6. Koeberg (PRG)*
7. Kemp (PRG)
8. Potgieter (Gim)
9. Booise (Gim)*
10. Pheiffer (PRG)
11. Steenkamp (PRG)*
12. Christians (Landbou)*
13. Muller (Gim)
14. Ocks (Landbou)*
15. Ocks (Landbou)*
16. Muller/Grundlingh (HJS)
17. Kock (Landbou)*
18. Van Vuuren (PRG)
19. Pieters (HJS)
20. Makholiso (PRG)*
21. De Silva (PRG)*
22. Brinkhuis (HJS)*
23. Davids (HJS)*
@Surgite (Comment #3)
not at all…depends how far you go back.
@Snelvuur (Comment #16)
Kies jy gou n wynlandspan – kom ons kyk hoe gaan dit.
@Strepie (Comment #12)
@Strepie (Comment #12)
@beet (Comment #1)
Beet, with all due respect to Hollenbach, he is so overrated. It was clear either Uithaler or Viljoen should he have been injury free
LIONS CW SELECTIONS
Simply put, if you do not attend KES, Jeppe, Nordheuwel, Helpmekaar or Monnas your chances of being selected are slim. At least Parktown and Northcliff have a few players in the B team. What has happened to Randburg, Linden, Vorentoe, Roodepoort, St Stithians, Highlands etc etc etc
@Grizzly (Comment #10)
@beet
Grady Ngui can feel unlucky not to be in the main team
Shocked on the Hollenbach omission.
Matthew Hunt is from Northcliff, incorrect on Noordheuwel
@HSBR (Comment #9)
Maar who cares??
@wanza_15 (Comment #4)
Can’t blame the Lions for working Poulton that way if your suspicion is correct. He is a great talent with massive potential
Welpies

@wanza_15 (Comment #6)
Yes Monnas 10 Viljoen is injured. He is u17. Great prospect.
I love watching Phano Letsie. Jeppe have been blessed with very enjoyable to watch centres these past few years.
@beet (Comment #1)
Quite shocked!
Maybe the most controversial omission especially given his (near) heroics against Affies? I also don’t see the Monnas 10 who I’d been raving about all season, but in his case I think he’s injured? I didn’t see him against Noordheuwel, it was a different 10 on the day?
@Surgite (Comment #3)
I dont even think it is close!
Interesting
as far as ability goes, he is exceptional, and as I say, a shoe-in again for SA “A” again at the very least, he should be aiming higher.
– Poulton has played only 2 full games this season. My suspicion is that he recovered a while back but they wanted him 100% ready for this and u18 National duty that will follow, his return comes at a very “convenient” time. But I’m not complaining
– Bruwer and Ngui must have been such a close one! But not controversial.
– Amadi probably the most certain of the KES representatives I was, I did expect at 8th man, he is a wrecking machine, looks like a nightmare to try and bring down.
– I have not watched any Helpmekaar rugby so I speak hesitantly, and to be corrected; that 9 must be special to be keeping Talent on the bench, I’ll be sure to watch this weekend and some highlights.
– I am pleasantly surprised by Joel on the wing, not for a lack of ability or anything but because he’s another that has been carrying a knock, hope he will be 100%, lots of personality he has! Must have had very solid trial game(s) because they won’t have seen much else from him this season. However was in the U16 Grant Khomo team last year, so they “know” him.
– Nkambule at 13 together with Talent at 9 having big seasons, all good things seem to have their fingerprints on them for us.
– Ayanda on the bench I predicted as well, just gets on about his business.
– Talent must be gutted not be starting but I trust will make the most of his chance when he gets it, I think its not a secret that he is my favourite player in our team
– Phano Letsie young starboy, slow start to the season but really has grown in to the 12 jersey this season
PS. Beet, would be nice if you could print the U17 Welpies team in the open space..

1. Poulton (u18)

13. Nkambule (u18)
16. Funeka (u18)
21. Sithole (u18)

AW. Ndlovu (u17)
AW. Ngui (u18)
AW. Mjiji (u18) (Strange, he plays 2nd team)
AW. Tshipamba (u17)
On a side note. Can anyone confirm whether this is the lowest amount of CW representatives Monument has ever had?
Very happy to see the boys from Parktown that made it. Well deserved! Especially happy about the two Grant Khomo representatives.
Nehemia Hollenbach???
