@CyndiAtRugby: I would be prepared to coach a side with assistance. I would prefer it to be an u16 team so that I can watch the U18’S.

Unfortunately it is a lot more difficult to get high school boys to commit to club rugby which is sad because a more enjoyable style of rugby is played at club and, generally, the parents are a lot more chilled.
Sadly, I’m sure a barbarian team could be made up of those boys who have signed up at various clubs where there aren’t enough boys to make a team. The challenge would be to get them to practice and find a coach, the benefit would be that these boys would get to play and have an opportunity to attend trials for DRSU.

    Fixture update

Harlequins have withdrawn their U15 and U16 teams – those matches are both cancelled.

Pinetown have withdrawn their U13 and U15 teams – those matches are both cancelled.

This is where the boys can seriously express themselves without the threat of being chastised by their peers and others. They play for each other and and then come together at the inter-provincials and again play for each other. Collegians u18’s are going to be a young side but with plenty of skill and pace. They play the unknown Jaguar boys who could be real contenders so they must not drop their guard. Can’t wait. Then there is the game against the touring Montpelier u18 side on the 4th August at Riverside. going to be a cracker-so if you don’t have anything to do ,come down and support our local lads. Am sure there will be a mix of boys from Westville, Glenwood,Northwood,Kearsney ,Port Natal, Gelofte and others so a sort of League of Nations.

I love watching the boys playing club rugby because they are playing because they want to play. The teams have boys from rival schools playing in the same team against their school team mates which is always interesting to see and also allows many boys who have not made A or B teams at schools to play against A & B team players.
It is a pity that there is not more support from the schools in getting the players involved in club – especially those boys who still need to develop certain skills. It is sad to see the huge drop in club membership from primary to high school rugby.
