As the sun rises and sets, the Top 5 are always the same; https://schoolboyrugby.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Overall-Rankings-2010-2024v2.png

With all the schools not playing each other and not always even the same schools in a season, you will always have to have some kind of subjective angle to assist with certain assumptions. The ranking will never be 100% accurate for all schools.

Yes it plays a role and unfortunately there is still too much of a subjective angle in that determination as well.

Hi Meesh. Took what you said into account. The punishment for losing to a team in category 3 or 3.5 was harsh = 0 points. Since the category itself is subjective, I added the losing points for these defeats which helps a school like PBHS.

Seems like the school history play a big role towards the rankings

Are these rankings based on this season’s results only or do you also look at how strong these schools have been historically?

Grey Bloem at 6 is a joke, 7 from 7, yes maybe weaker opposition so far. Northwood way too high up. Glenwood lucky to be Top 20, more a Top 30 side. DHS need to go up. But it’s early days, post Wildeklawer the picture will be clearer. Based on what I’ve watched Paarl Gim and Paarl Boys are Top 3, BUT its the same every year…

Strength of opponents played seems to be a big factor when making the rankings. Noordheuwel have only won a game thus far for the year yet they are still a top 10 ranked school and what I’ve gathered from the other comments this is mostly due to the fact that the schools they played against are historically better then them

    CONFUSED

Hold on so PBHS (who were 37) beat Diamantveld (who were 35) convincingly & lose against Graeme (who were 31) but somehow PBHS drop 10 spots, yet Diamantveld loses to a team behind them & beat Welkom Gim (who were 46) but somehow they jump up to 32? how?

Agree completely, I feel like the top 5 all playing each other will start to make the rankings a bit more settled, so will be very interesting to see how those games play out over the season. I think Rondebosch will be very disappointed to lose to KES and will still be targeting some big Western Cape upsets. I really wouldn’t be surprised if nobody goes unbeaten this year, the top 5 all seem to be particularly even so far. From the KZN side, DHS v Westville will be massive. Northwood also looking good.

@Kaya 85 (Comment #1) No complaints from my side , especially the top 5. Most of the top 5 still need to play each other eg Boishaai still need to play Grey , Paul Roos and Paarl Gim. Saying that I feel there will still be many curveballs this year with Garsfontein , Rondebosch , Oakdale ,Boland Landbou to name a few still going to help to change the top 10 in ranking order.

Fair call, Rondebosch slipped a bit.
At this stage very little separation between top 8
