Kariega’s Brandwag severs all sporting ties with Framesby

April 2024
Without any apparent reason provided, Brandwag abruptly terminated all sporting ties with Framesby sometime around February 2024. Speculation swirls as to the underlying cause behind this unexpected decision conveyed via email. Framesby confirmed that there has been no subsequent communication on the matter.

This was an inter-schools rivalry/relationship that has been going on for a long time.

The decision was made too late in the day for Framesby to organise alternative fixtures. Other schools were already sorted for the second term.  As a result there will be no team sports like rugby, hockey, and netball on this weekend. Brandwag is also off on Saturday.

The absence of these matches deprives students of valuable opportunities for physical activity and skill development.

As both schools grapple with the repercussions of this puzzling move, many are left wondering what prompted such a drastic measure and whether it signifies deeper tensions between the institutions.

Brandwag are part of the new Tinara Cup, a home and away triangular sports event between the three leading high schools in Kariega. It has added two interschools match days to the fixture list and perhaps contributed towards Brandwag’s decision to sever all ties with Framesby.

Framesby are recruiting heavily in the area, particularly kids from Handhaaf which is one of Brandwag’s major feeders . They have buses running from Uitenhage to PE daily. A few of the boys Framesby recruited from there have already left the school and are now at Brandwag.
