Those unwanted streaks – who’s most likely to break ’em

April 2024

Its the worst thing imaginable. A losing streak!  Not everyone register “W” weekend in, weekend out.

Anyways what are the odds of some of the best now high schools changing course over the next couple of weeks.

Everyone’ second favourite team Stellenberg have proven to be very competitive once again in 2024. It’s just an incredibly tough fixture list. The Jades are surely 98% certain to record their first W of 2024 when they meet Strand.

Durbanville who ironically are Stellenberg’s season ending big local interschools rivals in the Northern Suburbs are also yet to get off the mark. They also have a very difficult fixture list. Thye’ve got some very decent results in a season that started off really poorly with that Porterville Bulfees payback by Boishaai after Durbies beat them last year. Even though the record looks bad, it feels like they are overachieving still. Durbies head to the Grey High Festival next week but there are no guarantees of them returning home with a win from either of the matches in Gqeberha. So perhaps 33% chance against Westville and 40% against Queen’s College.

After an attention-grabbing win against Maritzburg College, Kearsney has slumped to 0-5 and conceded 91 points in their last two matches. So things are getting to that stage where a reversal of fortunes is an absolute must if the season is to stand any chance of being defined using positive terms. They play Michaelhouse at Kings Park in the first of two meeting this season. House showed form in beating Northwood but they have lost their kingpin forward. That should be worth something on the scoreboard. Kearsney needs to rise to the occasion and if they do, this one is looking like a 50:50 for a win.

A baptism of death for new head coach and former St Andrew’s College star player Jonny Mallett. It has not been an easy time in the two festivals, losing a couple that may one through they stood a chance of winning before kickoff. Now they host Graeme College in a Makhanda derby. You’d say that SAC are favourites by maybe as much as a 60% chance but they haven’t played a competitive match in almost an entire month. This while Graeme are on a five game winning streak including a confidence boosting 50-pointer against Hudson Park in their last match.

You’d want to put money on Bethlehem’s Witteberg to end their three game winless streak. They host Henties of Virginia who are a bit distracted by internal issues at the school which resulted in their home game from last week having to be cancelled.

Bishops have a bit of prove everyone wrong incentive of their own after a shock home defeat to giant-killers Milnerton. But they are preparing for a backlash of note when they take to the field against Wynberg. Unbeaten Berg will be keen to prove what they could not do so well last weekend due to a draw with Grey High, which is to show SA that they are Top 10 material. The match is on the Piley Rees which offers Bishops a few points but they are down at 20% to cause an upset. No cameras on the Piley Rees once again.

Difficult season for Clifton. A big defeat to St Charles in their last outing. Northwood are a step up as well and have plenty of flair. Clifton are maybe at 2% chance to win.

Hermanus – watch this space for their next fixture.

Garsfontein has absolutely no shame in the three narrow margin defeats to top opposition. They are favourites to bounce back with a win against Stellies (80% chance). After that a titanic struggle awaits in the form of Grey College in the rematch of last year’s epic ABSA Wildeklawer national championship decider for 2023.
