Schoolboy rugby over Ramadan

Ramadan is the Muslim holy month on the lunar calendar. Amongst other things, it involves a strict fast including not drinking water, from dusk until dawn. In South Africa, it is expected to start on 10 March 2024. In most schoolboy rugby circles its not an event that has much impact on how things are done. The tier-one region where it has the most influence is the Cape Town Southern Suburbs, home to Bishops, Rondebosch, SACS and Wynberg. All four high schools get their regular seasons underway this coming weekend and will have to be sensitive and flexible towards the religious priorities of their practicing Muslim-faith players.
