Skonk has had a few iterations over the years. Was attempting to become a premier tourno back in early 2010s – then became a KZN 7s tourno for a while – but I think the premier U14/16 format is great now – good hosting – and good calibre of schools there – with a few surprises throuwn in from schools like Potch every now and then.

True, always liked the Skonk tourno for the younger sides. Never sure why Glenwood have never been invited. The Glenwood Festival should be renamed the ‘Toppy Festival’ after our legend coach, Anthony Hortop. Yes, re the beaches and city. I was there in Oct, what a gemors…

As an aside – while the GW festival is perhaps a 2nd tier school showcase. There are some good schools there – GW and HTS Middelburg. Apart from the Kearsney Festival which is top tier – there are certainly a lot of schools rugby happening in KZN over this period for the non top schools – South Coast (Sportwini); DHS U13 tournament; Skonk Festival at College (some good U14 and U16 sides) etc. Good to see so many of them at the Shark Tank on Sat too. Nice to see Durban being a rugby destination that we can build on. Just need to clean up the beaches so the visitors have somewhere to swim!

I asked one of the 1st team players dad, the first full caps will be at Kearsney Festival. These games are still friendly warm-ups for the Glenwood team. Seems Glenwood is at the Wesvalia/Welkom Gim level, which is probably top 50 in SA, not in the top 30 any longer. This festival looks a great ‘warm-up’ for some of the local KZN teams and gives the 2nd tier sides from Gauteng a chance to tour. Seems Glenwood’s future maybe vs Rusties, Wesvalia, Centurion etc with the local KZN teams. I would prefer a Jeppe, PBHS, KES, Parktown but hey ho.

Thank you for correcting me – spoke to the ref afterwards too and he also confirmed. Just very odd seeing the Green Machine playing as the Red Army in full red jerseys!

Being at this festival live is pretty awesome. I was there on Saturday and the amount of support that the Gauteng teams bring is pretty awesome. The main game was error-riddled. The two best players on the field was the Westvalia 8th man (if he was at a bigger rugby school he would make a provincial team in my opinion). The hooker for Glenwood was for me the best player forward on the day. In a pack that was not dominating he stood out by far. He is surely on of the best Hookers in KZN. Real test will be the Kearsney fest

Glenwood on Day 1 were at full strength as that side plays in the Kearsney Tournament. The other 2 days the Invitational team is a 2nd/3rd team.

Eye of the Tiger? Do you have more info on this team? Are they based in the Bruma area of Eastern Joburg?

My understanding this is a Glenwood XV too – not a full strength 1st XV?
