@AbsolutMenlo: Ja, ek waardeer DigiTv deesdae – was verlede naweek in Pretoria en kon heerlik BV se tuiswedstryde teen PHS kyk.

@Beet: There seems to be confusion about which Kroonstad team St Albans played yersterday – you have AHS Kroonstad (Rooiskool), while two other sites I’ve checked have it as HS Kroonstad (Blouskool) with ScoolofRugby (normally very reliable) even have a match report about Blouskool. Can you please clarify.

And while some Eastern Cape surprise results having been mentioned, no one said a word about Daniel Pienaar losing to Graaff-Reinet Volkies.

@Gatskop: I watched the match on SSL when it was live. Neither tackle was malicious. My feeling on the Monnas tackle on Visser was he may have jumped just before the tackle which aggravated the circumstances and therefore possibly not a penalty. The Monnas one to me was definitely a penalty but probably no further sanction.

With regards to the binning of the Monnas player for backchat, it depends on what was said. I think it was last year when a ref at the Grey PE festival issued red for disrespecting him. A schoolboy should engage with the referee in a respectful manner or face the consequences.

@Beet: Ja watch the Bois vs Monnas games for 2 dangerous tackels. 1 from each team. The ref was realy bad, but he was totaly ok with the tackels. What he didnt like was a fantom punch and a few harmless words that he give a yellow card for.

@Gatskop: I was at the Westville vs DHS match today and there was an incident in the first half where the Westville wing lifted his DHS opponent through the 90 deg axis and from a height planted him on his back right in front of the ref and after the whistle. I thought the two things combined – dangerous illegal tackle and late would make it a consideration for a red card. The ref did not even award a penalty to DHS.

Credit to the DHS player who did not feign injury.

Bois is vir my voor sterker terwyl kwaggas agter sterker is.

Daar klop Brandwag (PE) vir Grey High school 17 – 10. Outeniqua het laas week vir Brandwag 38 – 5 gewen. So of Brandwag is sterker as wat ek gedink het of Grey High gaan die jaar sukkel.

Seems like the the 2020 rugby season could be a huge disappointment. Michaelhouse have just pulled out of their weekend fixture against St Charles due to concerns about Coronavirus. The likelihood of more schools following suit must be high and the situation doesn’t seem like it will resolve itself soon.

How good was the Bishops – Paarl Gim game tonight. Bishops might have lost this warmup but I think they made a lot of friends amongst the neutrals by the way they play. And can you ever underestimate a Gim team. They just always seem to find a way to be effective when it matters most.

@Vleis: Nope, that is why they’ve agreed to play Glenwood again, they feel they can compete. They have had 4 years of very good grade 8 recruited sides, so it certainly won’t be one way traffic at all age-group levels. I think the one year, probably 2 years ago their U14A side might have challenged Grey Bloem if they had played

    @Vleis: They played Hilton last year in the friendly Voortrekker night series and the year before in warm-up chukka’s. Hopefully it’s played in good spirit.It’s at Glenwood, so good to have home advantage. The Glenwood team is a good mix and I think well balanced, maybe lacking experience in the backs. Last time they played was in 2014 when Glenwood won 67-7. Stats are as follows;
    First played – 1915

@Beet: Some cracking fixtures in KZN. College will be desperate for revenge after losing to Northwood for the first time last year, but that will be a difficult task given Northwood’s result v Kearsney away last weekend and the fact that they have home ground advantage. Glenwood and Hilton are arguably the strongest teams in Natal at present and the match might have extra needle after a six (is it?) year sabbatical. I’m also interested to see if Westville will continue the progress that they made last year.

My game of the weekend without doubt is Boishaai vs Monnas.

The Welkom Gim vs Helpmekaar match should also be very good.

At Loftus my pick of the matches is Boland Landbou vs HTS Middelburg, but seeing what firepower Gim and the Kwaggas have will also be interesting.

At Graeme a toss up between Brandwag vs Grey PE and Framesby vs St Andrew’s College.

And if I could go to all three of these matches in KZN I would
    Glenwood vs Hilton
    Northwood vs College
    Westville vs DHS

I don’t think any neutral can go wrong by attending or viewing either of the three.
