@Beet: There seems to be confusion about which Kroonstad team St Albans played yersterday – you have AHS Kroonstad (Rooiskool), while two other sites I’ve checked have it as HS Kroonstad (Blouskool) with ScoolofRugby (normally very reliable) even have a match report about Blouskool. Can you please clarify.
And while some Eastern Cape surprise results having been mentioned, no one said a word about Daniel Pienaar losing to Graaff-Reinet Volkies.
Ek dink julle gaan baie goed doen!
@Gatskop: I watched the match on SSL when it was live. Neither tackle was malicious. My feeling on the Monnas tackle on Visser was he may have jumped just before the tackle which aggravated the circumstances and therefore possibly not a penalty. The Monnas one to me was definitely a penalty but probably no further sanction.
With regards to the binning of the Monnas player for backchat, it depends on what was said. I think it was last year when a ref at the Grey PE festival issued red for disrespecting him. A schoolboy should engage with the referee in a respectful manner or face the consequences.
@Beet: Ja watch the Bois vs Monnas games for 2 dangerous tackels. 1 from each team. The ref was realy bad, but he was totaly ok with the tackels. What he didnt like was a fantom punch and a few harmless words that he give a yellow card for.
@Gatskop: I was at the Westville vs DHS match today and there was an incident in the first half where the Westville wing lifted his DHS opponent through the 90 deg axis and from a height planted him on his back right in front of the ref and after the whistle. I thought the two things combined – dangerous illegal tackle and late would make it a consideration for a red card. The ref did not even award a penalty to DHS.
Credit to the DHS player who did not feign injury.
@Grizzly: I suspect the Gim team that showed up today was very different to last week’s team. On several occasions Gim have proven to be a mighty team to come up against so I’m very hesitant to speculate what Affies’ and Helpies’ worth is… especially Affies
Ek wonder of hulle nou hulle “get out of jail” kaart vir die jaar gebruik het.
WELL DONE HILTON….
Bois is vir my voor sterker terwyl kwaggas agter sterker is.
@Gatskop: Het HJS n kans teen Kwaggas?
Kwaggas (Outeniqua) gaan bitter baie ver wen teen Waterkloof.
Sorry Vossies, was amper….veels geluk Menlo
Grey weer unstoppable hierdie jaar….
Welkom Gim 35 Helpies 7
Grey kollege 70 Duineveld 7
Daar klop Brandwag (PE) vir Grey High school 17 – 10. Outeniqua het laas week vir Brandwag 38 – 5 gewen. So of Brandwag is sterker as wat ek gedink het of Grey High gaan die jaar sukkel.
With Super Rugby being put on hold it won’t be long before the upcoming festivals start getting canned …
@CapeMan: The chances of you dying at an ATM withdrawing money is higher than you getting the corona virus in South-Africa
@CapeMan: WTF SA is one the most dangerous country in the world. Do we stay indoors. You got more chance of getting your underpants stolen in SA than getting Corona Virus. Maybe got to the pub and buy yourself a Corona. Sorry man I forgot, Cape Town isn’t part of SA??????????????????
@CapeMan: Jeepers dude, our length and girth depends on our Alma Maters performance, what are you talking about!
@CapeMan: I could not agree with you more. It borders to complete recklessness.
People of this blog, is it not perhaps irresponsible for schools to be allowing sport during this pandemic outbreak of the corona virus? I know I would definitely not allow a child of mine to play sports during this time.
Boishaai 0/14a vs Wit Bulle 0/14a 40-0
Boishaai 0/15a vs Wit Bulle 0/15a 8-7
@BrotherBear: Hoofstad is die N1 winkelsentrum ?
Boishaai’s first full length game.
The plan was to still use this game as trials together with the Ireland games to settle on a starting xv for the very tough season that lies ahead..
@Quagga: I will stick my neck out and make Welkom Gimmies and Boishaai the slight favourites to win.
@Beet: For the first time I am not certain of the outcome of Welkom Gim vs Helpies in Welkom and Monnas vs. Boishaai. Those are going to be two telling clashes.
@Strepie: nope boerewors gordyn begin by Parow, my ou!
Ek is Saterdag by Loftus. Kry my nommer by Beet en dan drink ons ‘n bier by Trademarx.
@Rainier: Sou jou graag gister by d game ontmoet het. Jy saterdag dalk by loftus? Ons speel florida 7:30.
Seems like the the 2020 rugby season could be a huge disappointment. Michaelhouse have just pulled out of their weekend fixture against St Charles due to concerns about Coronavirus. The likelihood of more schools following suit must be high and the situation doesn’t seem like it will resolve itself soon.
@Rainier: Jy veralgemeen mos nou vreeslik. Ek voel skoon persoonlik aangeval.
For people behind the Boerewors curtain there is an exciting opportunity today to see the GCB /13 team in action this afternoon. They are playing at 16:30 at Garsfontein Primary, a huge challenge for the local team after GCB gave Kenmare a hiding yesterday.
Other surprising news is that Affies vs Diamandveld will be broadcast on SSL.
13:00 Affies 1st XV vs Diamantveld 1st XV, 14 March

The Coronavirus has claimed another fixture – Michaelhouse vs St Charles has been cancelled
Bishops impressed. Draw would have been a true reflection. Both backlines topclass.
By gese Gim en Boishaai was teenwoordig.
@Vyfster: I’m still in Cape Town after the CycleTour and will miss Saturday’s fixture. At least it will be on Digitv!
It’s going to be a good one! Menlo should be much better prepared than two weeks ago against Welkom Gim. Ben Vorster will have a lot of confidence after last weekends good start to the season.
My the best team (Menlo) win!
Hopefully this will now be an annual fixture going forward.
@Beet: No chance, remember it’s the best of the Lions playing the best of province…..
How good was the Bishops – Paarl Gim game tonight. Bishops might have lost this warmup but I think they made a lot of friends amongst the neutrals by the way they play. And can you ever underestimate a Gim team. They just always seem to find a way to be effective when it matters most.
@Grizzly: Well Boishaai had a good workout tonight. That will serve them well going into Saturday’s game. I wonder if Monnas will be a little undercooked?
@Vyfster: Thanks. I must add that. Could be a good one.
@Beet: you forgot to list the best fixture this week
Ben Vorster vs Menlopark….lol
Current Virsekerbeker cup against plate champions!
Suppose the junior teams will take big losses….hopefully the 1st team will be competitive.
Last year the score was 44-30 for Menlo at home.
At least better than the 44-17 Menlo beat Helpies in Virseker cup final
This year home fixture for BV….go Vossies!
@Vleis: Nope, that is why they’ve agreed to play Glenwood again, they feel they can compete. They have had 4 years of very good grade 8 recruited sides, so it certainly won’t be one way traffic at all age-group levels. I think the one year, probably 2 years ago their U14A side might have challenged Grey Bloem if they had played
@De-flea the Dog: OK, so the first competitive game for six years. As you say, hopefully played in good spirit. Hilton have upped their game significantly in recent years (they’re consistently a top 20 team these days) so there won’t be a repeat of the last scoreline!
@Vleis: They played Hilton last year in the friendly Voortrekker night series and the year before in warm-up chukka’s. Hopefully it’s played in good spirit.It’s at Glenwood, so good to have home advantage. The Glenwood team is a good mix and I think well balanced, maybe lacking experience in the backs. Last time they played was in 2014 when Glenwood won 67-7. Stats are as follows;
First played – 1915
Played: 97
Glenwood won: 39
Hilton won: 53
Drawn: 5
Biggest loss (1915) – 0-46
Biggest win (2014) – 67-7
Will be a very good game…..
Graeme rugby day predictions:
Cambridge by 30
Dale by 15
Hudson by 40
Queens by 15
Grey by 10
Selborne by 10
Framesby by 10
Graeme by 5
I will be at the Porterville rugby day. Cant wait…
@Beet: Some cracking fixtures in KZN. College will be desperate for revenge after losing to Northwood for the first time last year, but that will be a difficult task given Northwood’s result v Kearsney away last weekend and the fact that they have home ground advantage. Glenwood and Hilton are arguably the strongest teams in Natal at present and the match might have extra needle after a six (is it?) year sabbatical. I’m also interested to see if Westville will continue the progress that they made last year.
My game of the weekend without doubt is Boishaai vs Monnas.
The Welkom Gim vs Helpmekaar match should also be very good.
At Loftus my pick of the matches is Boland Landbou vs HTS Middelburg, but seeing what firepower Gim and the Kwaggas have will also be interesting.
At Graeme a toss up between Brandwag vs Grey PE and Framesby vs St Andrew’s College.
And if I could go to all three of these matches in KZN I would
Glenwood vs Hilton
Northwood vs College
Westville vs DHS
I don’t think any neutral can go wrong by attending or viewing either of the three.
