    @beet: Difficult to say, the RA team sheets vs both Paarl Gym and Boland should provide better perspective. See what you can do :wink:

    Nass coaching U16A as I expected. Will be good to see what he does with this side.

    @Ploegskaar: Judging by their results, the Stellenbosch RA don’t seem to be a bad team. 2 creditable defeats to traditionally strong teams.

    Do you have any info how the boys will be tested for juice this year? Unfortunately it has been brought to my attention that the pressure is getting to some boys and they do what they need to to stay in the mix.

    @Grasshopper: I would be very surprised to see Kearsney not field the Doops and Tedder against Glenwood.
    I believe that these warm up games have helped them identify other players and combinations. They already know what the Doops have to offer, which is very sizeable. Rather save them from further injury.
    I think that the one has been nursing his sternum and the other his knee.

    Thanks Cyndi, it weirdly seems Glenwood is hosting the festival but not actually playing in it. Some great teams lined up though and should be a good spectacle for those not bothered to take the drive up to Botha’s Hill;

    Benoni, Ben Vorster, Die Brandwag, George Campbell, HTS Middelburg, Jim Fouché, Kempton Park, Merensky, Middelburg, Stellenberg, Transvalia, Tygerberg

    There are going to be some very close affairs here and some big packs I’m sure. Poor Dixon’s field is going to get churned up, good luck to the ground staff afterwards. George Campbell might struggle here..

    @Grasshopper: It looked like Jonas took a head knock early in the game – he continued for about 5-10 minutes and was then subbed. His play was quite erratic after the knock, sort of like Elton Jantjies on a good day :mrgreen: so hopefully it is not concussion which would see him miss Kearsney – that would be very sad.

    @Grasshopper: According the the GW rugby fixtures list it is U14, U15, U16 & 1st teams. All Glenwood’s A teams are on tour (U14A @ Maties, U15A at Boishaai and U16A at Paarl Gim and the 1st team at Kearsney.)

    @ALL, Glenwood vs Kearsney is only 11 days away so if the Doops are out injured then they are not going to be match fit by then, unless Kearsney are playing a game and going to release them fresh onto Glenwood on the 16th. It seems both sides maybe without their starting flyhalves, Jonas got injured this weekend and now Tedder. They could of course recover by then. I think this is going to be one massive clash as Glenwood will want to revenge their defeat on Dixons. Kearsney are the favourites which is great, Glenwood do better as the underdog….Go Green!

    @Beet, off topic but do you know if the Bizsport Festival at Glenwood is 1st team or another age group? I might pop in there when in Durbs over the Easter break before heading up to Kearsney.

    @beet: Apparently Schramm did play.
    Another one that slipped under the radar is that Kearsney also played Vryheid a few days before Pioneer. They won by approx. 30-3.

    Kearsney vs pioneer smith,Schramm and Tedder did play, Tedder went off injured during the game. Pioneer were a competent side but lacked a little experience in there back line.

    @star: My sources tell me that the Doops are still out with injuries. TristanTedder did not play either. Kearsney played a lot of second team players and tried certain players in different positions. On the other hand, Pioneer took it more seriously.

    @TheBeast, Glenwood is an English medium school and that will never change. It might at some point go dual, but never Afrikaans only. Glenwood’s lesson’s are taught in English (except Afrikaans for obvious reasons) and the exams are written in English. Yes, it does have a large Afrikaans home speaking group of boys but in no way near the majority. Maybe the Afrikaans boys just excel at rugby hence the 1st team and A teams are predominantly Afrikaans. Just because Afrikaans parents are choosing to send their sons to English schools does not mean the school is Afrikaans. The same can be said for a surname, just because it’s Van Rensburg does not mean the kid is Afrikaans and vice versa. With the decline in the majority of Afrikaans schools in KZN the big English schools have benefitted. There are of course some good Afrikaans schools left but their numbers are small eg Port Natal, Suid Natal, Gelofte, Voortrekker, Kuswag etc….

    GCB and Glenwood generally have competetive games at GW. At Grey its completely different and none of this is as an attack to Glenwood but I too believe that it should just be the A teams playing each other. Much more competitive then.

    @Grasshopper: I did not mean it in an arrogant manner. Occasionally, it is suggested here that GCB avoids NK. I was merely saying that GCB should not give up a derby against a larger school, where there is full participation by all teams, just to “prove” something which they need not do.

    @Beast, that is fine by me. We will just play at first team level at tournaments like Wildeklawer and Kearsney. The logistics and costs of going to Bloem and them coming down is too much. Also the games are generally a mismatch. The only real loss would be the friendships formed and lessons learnt from playing a superior rugby school. Just like I would prefer Glenwood to play Pretoria Boys High instead of Affies and KES instead of Monnas…..much better fits and JHB is not that far away…

    Upset of the weekend: Menlopark over Centurion.
    Good wins: Ben Vorster over Standerton – Wow. Either Standerton, who normaly have strong solid sides, are staring a tough season in the face, or Ben Vorster is extremely strong. Pity they don’t play in any of the festivals.
    HTS Middelburg over Transvalia. Also a big margin. Some tough matches await the City schools in Middelburg! 8)

    @Grasshopper: Maroon is hinting at something else.

    Sometimes ordinary teachers from schools in one region become headmasters at others schools in other regions. Read this again:

    @Grasshopper: Hopper, maybe you should concentrate on keeping the Glenwood/Gray College fixture alive? That same U/16 side lost to Paul Roos in the final fixture of last year. Both sides were undefeated leading up to the game.

    @Bog, at this rate Grey Bloem will have to drop all their fixtures and have nobody to play as they are just too good….looking forward to Glenwood vs Grey fixture this year, our aim is to reduce the losing margins substantially and especially get rid of any century scores in the lower age groups..

    @beet: Thanks Beet, your effort is much appreciated. I think this puts things in perspective for those who so often ask the question why GCB does not play NK and why the encounters between the 1st teams were stopped a few years ago. The U16 B side played Voortrekker A as well.
