Paul Roos announces Cell C sponsorship deal

25 Feb 2013. Paul Roos has agreed a 3-year sponsorship deal with cellphone network provider Cell C. The deal believed to be worth a substantial amount could quite possibly be the biggest one in South African schoolboy rugby history.

Cell C will have exclusive rights to display their logo on the famous maroon jerseys.

Paul Roos kicked off its 2013 season in style with a comprehensive 52-0 victory over a touring Argentine team earlier in the day.

@CyndiAtRugby: Not as bad as it seems(like the army- once its behind you) I also traveled there from the coast(almost)@Queenian: 298 applicants? Then my estimates a bit exaggerated? I think there are roughly 220 per grade. But you get the message. I wonder how many of those grade 8s played U13 CW last year? I saw a photo of their U 13s (Primary school) receiving their sponsored kit and some of them looked as if they were 1st team players. First result 65-0

@BOG: Just teasing – if hubby had his way we would move there in a flash. Don’t think my son will love those hard, frosted rugby fields every week though

@CyndiAtRugby: I assure you that there are no shortage of boys wanting to go there- the problem would be to accommodate them. And I think to be realistic, the school and boarding houses would have to treble in size(guessing) But, its one of the few schools which dont advertise or have “open days” to promote itself.

@BOG: I did – for boarding and school fees it would be less than GW but then you need to encourage people to go to Bloem

@Grasshopper: I’m not sure how this works exactly. I do know that the Puma tracksuits are a few hundred rand more expensive than the non-Puma ones and the cost of many of the school items is higher because of the Puma badge. :?:

@CyndiAtRugby: Do yourself a favour- go and see what the fees are at GCB. You will wonder how they manage to do that. Just one problem. The fees may seem attractive, but the problem lies in getting a place at the school. Oh, and they dont offer surfing- only fly-fishing.

@Umtata: A very scary thought would be to compare what school fees cost at the SA Top 20 fees for the year. I was shocked to see how much cheaper fees are at many of the Cape schools compared to KZN. The cost of school fees plus the rugby and other school tours is astronomical.

I think with all the sponsorship these schools receive, the schools should try to keep school fees down. Its just ridiculous how much school fees have gone up in recent years.

Wow with all the discussions surrounding bursaries and the money schools have, I am amazed that there are no comments here.

As a rugby parent, I am only too aware of the additional costs of this sport in terms of tours, equipment, medical (physios & chiros) so do not begrudge anything to help those parents. My only comment then is that I hope that the sponsorship is for the benefit of school boy.
