National powerhouse teams Affies and Grey College got their proper season campaigns off to winning starts on Saturday 17 March 2018.
Affies defeated Diamantveld of Kimberley 40-7 at home while Grey travelled 150km up the R30 to meet and beat Gimmies 49-12. Both Diamantveld and Welkom Gim have useful teams this season.

@Rainier: Valid point taken. I must admit my initial feeling at your first comment was the exact opposite of your intention. It seemed like a name recognition disservice to a man who had establish a legacy worth paying tribute as a result of what he achieved during his rugby playing days. So I’m happy there is now clarification re insensitivity.
