Premier Interschools give themselves more time

The Premier Interschools match schedule and preview has been temporarily withdrawn and hopefully it’s been done to overcome a glaring omission from their original schedule.

That omission is Paarl Boys’ High versus Grey College.

It’s one of the biggest games in any given SBR season has and has been a cornerstone of Premier Interschool’s broadcast.

However in 2018, due to scheduling issues Boishaai and Grey had to move their annual derby from 12 May to 05 May. Not only did it mean that Boishaai’s WPPL fixture against Rondebosch had to give way but it also meant that the two national powerhouses were now playing on the same Saturday as another big Premier Interschools drawcard, namely Paul Roos versus Paarl Gymnasium.

Obviously the logical way to overcome this is to broadcast both matches in different time slots. Without knowing Premier Interschools’ resources available or the flexibility of Supersport to accommodate a change, this additional match on 05 May might be easier said than done.

In the end it could well represent a great opportunity for a streaming broadcaster to get access to a popular game.

Grey College’s three biggest annual matches in any given season are against Affies, Paarl Boys’ High and Paul Roos. As things stand, Premier Interschools only had one of the three locked in for 2018 – Paul Roos.

Play the 2 first team games at the Cape Town stadium one after another. Will draw massive crowds.
