Bennies hoping to be the surprise package in 2018

St Benedict’s College are well of into their preseason training.

After a  rather disappointing season in 2017 where they could only beat Springs Boys High, Jeppe Boys and push KES right down to the wire, the St Benedict’s 1st XV are aiming to bounce back big time in 2018.

St Benedict’s kick off their season on the 24th of March against St Stithians College away. The match promises to be an exciting derby between the two schools.

St Benedict’s 1st XV could be a side that surprises a lot of people. More than half of the players who made up the team in 2017 will return in 2018.

Provincial players returning to the 1st XV are:

Flyhalf : Tshepo Phogole (2016 GK),
Wing : Ayanda Tomile (2018 u18 Academy Week),
No.8: Tino Mwanza (2016 u16 Academy),
Outside Centre: Bradley Nenzou (2016 u16 Academy XV) and
Lock: Emihle Gcwabe (2016 u16 Academy XV).

The group that will form part of the core squad in 2018 had a decent set of results in their junior year’s which does give them some hope. The 1st XV Head Coach Katleho Lynch is also keen to get St Benedict’s rugby back on the map after a disappointing season. Keep your eyes and ears open.
