Good news is that one year after the successful DHS 150th Rugby Day there will be a version two of the DHS Rugby Day.
It will not include all as many KZN Tier-1 schools as the original celebratory event but should still be well worth it for spectators.
The same format will be applied:
- 25-minutes per half,
- 22 players per squad,
- rolling subs,
- no kicking at posts, kicking allowed outside the 22m (was only allowed inside the 22m in 2016).

@Speartackle: Good handling skills due to the many months of training. To be world champs you need to put the effort in. Especially if you are a Pro Boxer.

@McCulleys Workshop: Whahahahaha Dunn isn’t he the HC sports investor. Played right wing for HC in 88/89 he was a good player. Ja let’s see how they perform at the lower levels and then let’s hope those boys stay together all the way through.
@Bush: I Dunn’o, but they are sure putting in a brave effort. Let’s see their results down the line against the bigger schools, that will be telling. I see they have Jacques Botes coaching their u14A side this year. As your ex friend on the blog always said, Toppie should be coaching the u14 teams.
@McCulleys Workshop: Ja I think HC is going to be the new GW. They will be able to afford all the travel costs. Even air travel.
@pk terrier: But they chose to do that. Look at my list one out of those 5 schools could beat GW. It’s happened before. Yes they are chasing the ranking but at what cost to the entire school. Is it due to them chasing that title or have “local is lekker”said we don’t need to play against you???
@Bush: I think Hilton have their sights set on the big league, they have Affies shortly and an already full season.
i think the key in any success lies in playing local but i dont think to many local schools wants to play glenwood i almost think glenwood plays more out of province schools then local schools wich to me is sad cause there is such great history amongst the local schools something you should never throw away chasing a ranking
@McCulleys Workshop: Here is list of games GW could have played if they wanted a few local games before KERF. 1) Greytown 2) Wartburg 3) Ixopo 4) Kuswag 5) George Campbell. Those would have been lekker warm up games. Then they could have moved onto HC.
@McCulleys Workshop: Throw a punch GW know how to do that. As discussed before local is lekker. If GW would just love the local schools they would get plenty games. After seeing them against HC many local teams would be able to Cope against them.
@Greenman: Why don’t you ask them? Kearsney have played Pioneer, Sarel Cilliers, Welkom Gym, Northwood, and are going to EC to play Marlow and Nico Malan, all before KERF. The fact that Glenwood haven’t been able to throw a punch in anger yet is based on their planning. I don’t get it.
So Glenwood gets its first ” game” of the season. Looking forward to see what they have got this year. Pity that other KZN schools have played as many as three games already. What is with lack of opponents early in the season for .GW.?
@beet: Ok thanks. Yes thought it would be a good chance for SCC. Although DHS will again be a might prospect in 2017. I wish Northwood could sidestep them as well!
@Skywalker: Yeah that’s the final list. DHS identified that this year would be tricky because of school calendar but wanted to keep the rugby day going. They are anticipating a good school turn out in 2018.
I’ll try find out what Northwood’s plans are.
I’m not really sure about SCC. One would have thought they would have relished this opportunity but instead they have backed out and don’t have a DHS game planned for this year.
Hi Beet. Is this the final fixture list now? No St Charles at all now? or Northwood?
I’m a little sad that there are not as many of the top tier schools involved and supporting DHS again – it was an awesome day last year
@beet: Oh right. Agreed, DHS lower age group rugby is certainly not at the level of their 1st team right now. Will be interesting to see how they correct this going forward – while SCC are growing and getting more depth each year. Will be good match ups lower down
@Skywalker: If its along the lines of what happened last year DHS play a full length game vs St Charles and the match will be treated as part of their annual interschools. So I think all DHS teams will play all SCC teams that week and at no other time during the season. DHS might prove to be too strong in the 1st XV match but lets see how the lower age group A team results pan out.
Looking forward to the other fixtures when they came out. Was a great day last year – a bit like T20 rugby (or the old Union Days where all 6 Currie Cup teams played pre season).
I am not sure who else has committed, so it might just be that, but i would think DHS should have selected a fairer match up for the main game – no offence to St Charles, but DHS rugby is riding the crest of a wave and 2017 will be another great year I’m sure. Surely a game against Westville, College or even Hilton in 2017 would be more fitting? They played Kearsney this year if memory serves correct.
Anyway a good hit out for the teams, and promotes some running rugby which is great.
