@Bush: Yeah they do.Not so big for rugby as it was back in the day though. They didnt have any in this years team.Professional contracts that boys get while in high school has eroded the need.PM has never been an issue in the EC.Even Dale used them till it became ‘uneconomical’ for the school in the early 2000s.

@Riempies, @Grasshopper: I think it may also be all the muck in the air, near city central, that toughens the Helpie boys. Should that not also be a factor for the Glenwood boys?
Oh yes, the Durban ganja is much stronger and do tend to dull the senses a bit. Have heard that it may be permanent for some ;-)

@rugbyfan: Ja well no fair…seems to always be a problem. No need to be defensive, we have accepted that without the money, we will struggle to keep some boys who get given offers, especially from junior school. To say kids go there at their own accord is disingenuous. Maybe some boys do go there on their own accord…but we are aware of the ones offered because we get told, and have to try and raise funds to counter. Some times we do match, but that’s when it boils down to a boy preferring a free Kingswood education to a free Dale/QC one. Better all-round school, so it makes sense. He mustn’t confuse that for ‘own accord’, because that choice would be different if you took out the ‘free’.

@Bush: hahahah, ask the Kenyan, Ethiopian and Eritrean athletes about altitude training. A 1,500m school vs another 1,500m school is equal. Coastal school vs Highveld school, bit difference last 20 mins. Not enough to swing 63 points though

@Bush: JJ second team game was a strategic move which worked well when he came on for the first in the second half. He is with the SA A team but we will cope. Lots of CW and Aw’s left. Last game on Saturday! Cant believe how quick this year went by and before you know it we will be here at it again. It will be a good rest for a couple of Bloggers I am sure. The rest will have to find something else to handle their frustrations such as Mommy for the time being. Poor mommy and kids!

@Playa: You know what I am getting tied of just got off Facebook were there is a big spat going on between a Old Dale boy and a Old Kingswood boy.

And the Kingswood fellow is swearing blind they have never bought any boys from Dale and that all the Dale boys at Kingswood got there on there own accord and financing. When will people just admit what is going on and put a sock in there mouth. Not sure why all school in the EC region just don’t stop playing Kingswood and all the crap will stop.

Oh anyway if Kingswood do not buy boys maybe they should ask themselves who out of the 4 current Queens Under 13A boys have the money to go to Kingswood next year.( Yes they have just been given busaries) Maybe the Easter Bunny or Father Christmas gave it to them.

I respect how well Kingswood do for such a small school and admit it is a high class facility but please just be honest enough on what you doing, then respect can be earned.

Half your season is in a 10km radius. You know how much money you save!!! You have plenty cash for rugby bursaries. I see all the schools in your Neighbourhood have hockey fields. @Grasshopper: Just look at where St John’s, KES, Affies and PBHS(Let alone Jeppe) are situated. Maybe they don’t know anything about city decay as well. Interested to know if they take kids 100-800 km’s away from their school due to the city decay problem. Government funding for all government schools is non existent, can you imagine how many more bursaries GW could give if they got funding in from the Government. The school should approach the Lotto, if the Blue Bulls could get that right then anything is possible.

@Bush: Shows you have only been on these blogs for a short while. I have been blogging for over 5 years and congratulated many sides for beating Glenwood, you have very selective reading. The rest end up in the 3rds, 4ths, 5th, 6th etc…like anywhere else. Nope, the school cares about all the sides. We don’t have depth in the under15 age group for numerous reasons, only 4 sides. We also lost quite a few players in the A side. We offer over 45 sports so the boys are spread across those. Again, leave Glenwood alone they doing the best they can under very trying conditions.

Here is a question for you. What happens to the boys after the are done in the U16 age group. I understand that the U16A players will move up to 2nds and 3rds. The rest of the U16 players where do they end up?

U15A on Saturday great win against College 40 odd points, U15B got pumped 50 points by College. Why does this happen? Is your school only concerned about the A teams?

@boerboel: Dude, none of the supporters are one-eyed, just passionate. We all know Glenwood are not World Champs and not in the Paarl Gim, Boishaai, Grey Bloem, Paul Roos & Affies league. Absolutely no harm in aspiring to get there. Since the 1990’s when we were rubbish, there has been a massive turnaround. We have big scalps in the past decade many schools would love to have had. 2016 has been a good year not a great one. Losing by 63 to Affies and 45 to Monnas wasn’t great. Our under16’s and under14’s are strong and under15’s solid fighters. We will be very competitive next year. Move on from personal attacks against me, some kids and the school, it gets bloody boring…

Arrived on Mud Island to 25 degrees & clear skies ?. Glad the DA made inroads but unfortunately it’s still 3 years of Zupta!! Noticed 23 rugga sides & 11 mofstok sides scheduled to play, I like it. Bush, you make mountains out of molehills. All this buying stop 2 years ago, GW now only recruit at grade 8 level. It was a 3 to 4 years phase starting with Marne Coetzee, it didn’t work as it caused more issues than anything. Like Post Matric which House enjoyed for years it’s over. Kershaw has gone & Pinhireo soon too. A few more to weed out. You should actually support GW for weeding out this wrong. Comparing House to GW is like comparing Apples with Avo’s, both have completely different challenges now & in the future. Leave GW alone, they are using Sport to uplift the school. I am gracious in defeat and know all about it. We only won 25% of our games in the 90’s, it’s more a frustration with the schedule, management and way the team played.

Having been too every game House played this year. Chatting to parents while eating Chocolate Mousse with silvers spoons. Nobody had a problem with Houses performance.
Just speak to GW parents when they do badly or lose. They go on just like Hopper does about altitude. Maybe it’s because the parents have been promised so much. Or maybe the school needs to teach sportsmanship

Skinder!
Hierdie jaar vind dit by Gim plaas.
By Boishaai word almal betrek.

I know Gavin Hauptfliesch had 49 caps when he matriculated. (Shame the guy was injured for a few games in his matric year, would surely have passed 50 caps).

Some interesting stats for the Boishaai faithful.
Should the Seccies win their remaining two matches, they will also be unbeaten for two seasons. And they played against a number of 1st. teams of some of the schools.
Ryaan Lombaard has become the most 1st. team capped player of all time. He was the 1st. choice fullback back in 2014 and 1st. choice flyhalf since last year. If the 1st. team stays unbeaten, Salmaan Moerat, Khanja Nkusane, Manuel Rass, Ryaan Lombaard and Urgene Johannes will also be part of history, being the only players in the school’s 1st. team ,who has been unbeaten in 2 seasons. A number of other players of this year also featured in last season’s campaign, but the ones I mentoined ,was always the first choice players.

But! and this is a big But!! They still have to win their final two matches. I already discussed the match against Gim. However, The Drosdy outing can also become a banana peel, through the unavailability of the SA Shools players. The reserve power of the school will be severally tested .

@BoishaaiPa: BoishaaiPa! Nee! Sondag weer terug.

@BoishaaiPa: No one wants anybody to plunge into depths.
Our loss may have had some very good reasons (also debatable) that we never elaborated on – and will not do so now.
Good to move on and for boys to carry that sweet revenge taste through to next year.
As mentioned previously – no system or set of formulas can be perfect. Your formulas must do their job – no matter what.
My comments based on gut feel and on what I have seen thus far.

@BrotherBear: Your 58-12 loss wasn’t much better was it?..Just as Grey putting 50 pass Affies not reflecting Affies real strength..sometime teams have off days and the other is firing on all cylinders…then big scores can happen, still dont make it a bad team that should suddenly plunge down the depths!..

Booihaai se laaste verloor was juis in so ‘n finaal @ Marlow nogal.

@odie15: Jo! I forgot that the boys in the SA Schools team will not be able to play against Drosdy on 20 Aug. This match will probably be a curtain raiser for the clash between SA Schools and England at Brug street.
It will be a tough ask ,playing without 6 of our pack as well as Manny and Gianni. Drosdy have a more than usefull outfit this season.
Added to this, is the fact that should we win against Gim, the match against Drosdy will also count as a semi-final in Die Burger competition. The winner here will meet Oakdale in the final at Stellenbosch. The SA Schools boys will then have a final match to represent their school.
However, If we lose on Saturday, Gim will most probably have to play Drosdy in a semi- final match, as they will then be the un-official WP champs, having beaten all local opponents.
However! I do not know if we, or Gim, will be playing in the competition. Gim has declined to play in the past, and maybe Boishaai will follow suit. However, I somehow doubt that!

@Kattes-Strofes: You may be correct based on the ranking used on this Blog. Though the margin of a win or loss can have a telling factor on the avg. points. The effect of what I have mentioned may well have an influence on the numerous other ranking used.

Like I said, many but’s and if’s, but the mentioned scenario will definitely add some controversies based on the final rankings.

@Kattes-Strofes: season has been insane……its truely been 1 of many good teams. For GIM its the perfect end to a season. After beating Grey there’s only 1 result for Boishaai that’s an option. They have been battered every match this season. Plenty Claret on the fields. The forwards collide into anything running their way. I seen Salmaan’s instagram. “Whispers of tomorrow echo in my mind, just one more time.” It’s the final match for SA schools players! I’ve seen that go wrong too many times….emotions dictate in majormatches too many times. But the engine in Boishaai is diesel….once it starts running it doesn’t like to stop. I believe they will smash into everything that moves with a ball in hand on Saturday. Saturday is what will define their lives. The AMAZING SCHALK was a guest speaker at a launch of Boishaai Premiere League in 2012. Asked if he had 1 last match he could repeat it was Interschools loss he had. No matter where they go what they do Saturday is IT!

@Grey Brak: I am not sure about this, and maybe BoishaaiPa can confirm, but I think that Boishaai can no longer be over taken at the top, even if they lose to Gim on Saturday. If they win their final match next week-end against Drosdy, they should still come out on top. I think that their results against the other main contenders (5 of the Top 10 and another 4 of the Top 20 ), could havev sealed their position.
However, as I said, I am not sure of this.

It is time !! Forget about the rankings, representitive players, unbeaten runs and past results! Saturday will once again be a huge dual between two fantastic rivals for more more than a century. Paarl is now officially devided into two, for the whole of this week.

My take on the two sides various strenghts is as follows: Both sides have solid, although not dominating scrums. I expect an even battle in this phase. The lineouts should also be fairly evenly contested. Gim has the bulky Ludick and the big Uys as their main lineout options, while Boishaai have Moerat , Horn and Nkusane as options. In general play, Boishaai may have a slight edge with the work on the ground from Serdyn, and later on Foure.

I expect Gim,s no.’s 8, 9, 10 and 12 to be their main weapons on attack. They are lethal and can cause lots of problems in the Boishaai defence.

Boishaai,s ouside backs, paticularly Rass and Lombard can justifiably be considered their sharpest spears.
Both teams also have quality finishers in Du Plessis (Gim) and Abrahams (Boishaai ).

This should be a classical battle between Gim’s renowned attacking ability, versus the almost unbreakable defence and discipline of Boishaai, and their abilty to score from turn overs after absorbing pressure.

Favourates ? On these occasions, there is no early favourates. This is a well proven fact. The side that turns up on the field the more focussed and hungrier, and have a good smattering of luck, will eventually be victorious.

Good luck to both schools ,and all the teams, players and their families who is part of this wonderfull occasion.

Of course, as a parent of a recent Boishaai old boy, I will be giving my lungs ample exercise, in cheering for the Blue Train !!

A Paarl Gim win against Paarl Boishaai this weekend will definitely throw the cat amongst the pigeons to determine the “number 1” school in the country for 2016.

Resultantly, Grey, Boishaai and Gim would all have just lost 1 match throughout the season. If these 3 teams were then to remain like that until the end of the season it would be really interesting to see which team ends up as the “number 1” ranked school.

@BrotherBear: The game against Garsies will depend if we play their A team or the B team they have been fielding recently. When we reach the Beeld finals it will the some boys 35th game of the season. So I agree with you on that statement as most of the 35 games are played within 5 months. Monnas currently on a 3 week break before quarters which in their 1st break of the year. We will have to wait and see if the new rugby coach is going to stick to the current schedule next year.

@Hooit: that was a rather long winded retort. Thanks for appreciation of our attention as well as acknowledgement of our importance in SA Schools – Hehehe
Let’s see what you do in the Beeld competition, to warrant your present position. My guess that you may do very well, but maybe slip against Garsies.
I still maintain that you guys play too much rugby in a season and then pay the price in final stretch. Don’t underestimate @Rugbyman, there is good reason for him to play his 12th and 13th team players in the first team – hehehe

@Andre T: Stem nie. 2de helfte telling was iets soos 25 – 5 vir Monnas.

@BrotherBear: The Monnas lost to Jeppe is just a vague memory as Jeppe took the win and moved on. Well done Jeppe But for some reason Helpies keep on bringing it up that they beat Monnas. At least we did not get a 50 against us and we beat Marais Viljoen who beat Drostdy who beat …….. If the success of Helpies season revolves around the Monnas game then it shows the importance and stature of Monnas in SA schools rugby. It is a compliment that Helpies has such a high regard for us.

@BoishaaiPa: But they lost by so far against both ?
Losing by a margin early in season can be explained, but later in season? Must be injuries?
No, no, no, don’t want to get that started again – just now Monnas may think that their loss can be justified.
Does feel strange having both those teams ranked so high. But it is OK, time is proving to be an equalizer. Hard work’s day will come.
Top 4 teams proving their mettle. Well done to BoisHaai for an ever growing achievement.
Gimmies – one thing about a loss as you had earlier in season: you tend to work much harder to prevent such insanity happening again. Helpies knows the feeling.
Energy surrounding the upcoming “Paarl” clash is tangible even in Joburg.
