Dale to wear pink for cancer awareness

“Once again and for the third successive year Dale College First Rugby XV will wear their Pink Strip of Pink jerseys and shorts to highlight the disease of Cancer when Dale College and a formidable Selborne College play the 189th game against each other in King William’s Town. This history of rugby rivalry goes back to 1892! Dale’s sort after motivating Pink Strip is only worn by Dale once a year at present. The initiative and motivation behind Pink Day at Dale and playing in Pink strip to highlight Cancer is still possibly a first for any South African schools”

High flyers Selborne have not lost to an Eastern Cape school this year. They beat Dale 28-7 last time out before the holidays. However the East London school’s results since the July holidays are indications of a dip in form. Dale at the ” Graveyard” in “King” and fresh from a 28-22 win against a useful St Andrew’s must see this as an opportunity to cause an upset.  To date the Dale season has been a good season. It’s perhaps just short of a few victories against top notch opposition. Dale go in as underdogs but if they pull off an upset and complete the double against Queen’s in a couple of weeks time, Coach Griffy Griffith’s troops stand legitimate chance of finishing in the SA Top 20 this year.

Eish Playa there was long yellow rope put around the field and i think it was done for exactly that. :-D

Ture there with that Selborne war cry, Selborne were not playing alone Sat,, you could sense that even with the 14A losing virtually in the last minute.

Am not sure about our boys learning their lessons, for instance as weak and terrible as Dale was last year, they should won both games against Selborne last year, but will wait and see

@DC ARMY: Why didn’t you okes run onto the field in the 2nd team game? :-D

The comfort I take is that the 2nds are full of under 17s. From that, I believe the boys will be competitive against Selborne next year, and at reunion, may even grab a win if their heads are in the right place. It is not often that a team with 70% possession, and in their opposition territory for 80% of time don’t walk away with a victory. Maybe it’s in the Selborne war cry “Vumani! Siyavuma!” a chant associated with witchdoctors

As heart breaking as it is, I hope they never forget Saturday’s lesson, as it will come in handy next May.

Only the rugby gods know how on God’s green earth did both the Selborne 2nds and Firsts, especially the Firsts come away with victories at the Graveyard. I’m still in disbelief and trying top make sense at how the final 2 games on Saturday were lost by Dale College. This is a truly bitter bitter defeat and pill to swallow.

If there were Grey High spy’s in King on Sat they would have gone back to PE and said that a repeat of last year’s massacre is on come the 16th.

@Playa: Hats off to the Dale boys. I don’t know the exact stats but I would say: ball possession 70% and playing in Selborne’s half 80% of the game. Credit to Selborne on their defense, especially with 14 men just after halftime and after loosing Morgen Steyn to injury that clearly disrupted the Selborne back line. Hope all the injuries is not to serious and that everybody will be available for the Grey game.

Eish! Sometimes the better team on the day will lose to the team that refuses to lose.Selborne showed their quality from what I hear after being dominated.Hard luck Dale, you boys will be wiser next year. And I take my hat off to the Selbornians. An example that quality will always be superior.

To the Dalians – let’s at least do one better than last time, and get one win (I trust the mighty 14c team). The 1st team win is a given so I don’t count that

For a couple of years Glenwood wore lime green shorts for some games in aid of the Jess Foord Anti rape foundation – It Just didn’t look right !! – did not seem to affect their rugby though – I notice worldwide that there are rugby refs who wear all pink – all for a good cause though …

@Playa: Seems like this poaching thing is being taken to extremes now. If I understand you correctly your son is about 2 years old, still learning to speak and most probably cannot yet play the game. The recruitment drive is however in full swing.

What’s it going to be like in 10/11 years time? Good luck with your choice. Unbelievable! I think one should at least wait until a kid is in gr 6/7 before any recruitment should take place. Let kids be kids.
