@GreenBlooded: ….well…my question was a follow up question from Hopper’s re age checking…ie if it’s the same team that’s been playing all year, why would age be questioned now? I meant nothing sinister about that. I just couldn’t help but include  in my question, he just looked so cute…

    Hopper

the U16a’s had a good game too – winning that one

My Son did what I have never done – he played 2 games on Goldstone
    – a privilege I’ve never had – all the open teams played on Goldstone
    on Saturday
I remember years ago playing on MC field on the other side of the river – the only spectator was an old man and his dog

MC & GW bloggers must be in hibernation – no comments on Saturdays
game at Goldstones !! – another nail biting finish with GW taking it by one point – College missed a sitter of a penalty in the final moments
which would have won the game – From the kickoff it was there for all to see that College weren’t going to lose this game – talk about guts and glory and MC were on fire – If GW didn’t have Jacko and Morne College would have won – no doubt about that
unbelievably GW U14’A’s beat College 95 – Nil

Battle of Kimberley. Diamantveld 24 (5) Noord-Kaap 12 (7). First half very tight, but in the second half Diamantveld totally outplayed Noord-Kaap. Four tries to two.

@DC ARMY: Yes. Grens used their opportunities and Hudson not. Hudson boys had velcro on their hands. Many 4 and 3 on ones and they don’t pass. Brink (12) and Engelbreght (9) played well for Grens. Game could of gone any way.

Schoolboy rugby don’t come any bigger than this weekend in Noord-Vaal. Where ever you go there is some massive match ups. I’ll call the following teams in the Beeld Macro schools:
    -Menlo to upset Jansies
-Nellies to win Kempies. Although in Kempton Park it will take an massive effort
-HTS to take it over Monnas. Mother of a tough game to be.
    -Garsies to win Centurion.
Interhuis: Affies to win the Pebbles, ag sorry, the Souties 8)

@MikeSt: Mike, yes it’s a home game. All I can say about Menlo is to watch out they certainly have the talent. “ONESPORT” are involved with Menlo and they will definitely be a different team, and if they are fit and have the right mind set on the day, they can beat any team.

The semi-finals of the Burger small school competition in the Boland region were supposed to be played yesterday at Drostdy’s fields. One and a halve hours after the games were supposed to start the players left because there were still no refs available for the games. How the hell is this possible!!!

@OudUppie: Affies always have strong sides even in the lower categories. However, the 2012 U/16 Affies side was, compared to their standard, slightly less strong!

I think GCB will never have a weak side. Even if they are beaten, it is not a sign of a weak side but rather the other teams playing above their norm.

@OudUppie: Perhaps a “sabbatical” from SBR until 2016, is something to consider. Otherwise, GCB must do what they are accused of doing anyway- Recruit in a big way over the next 4 months. There are more than enough kids who want to escape the Cape winters, and in the Border and EC area too, they seem to have itchy feet.

@beet: I agree that Selborne’s results have dropped compared to before the break. One must also consider the fact that the other teams(e.g Queens) have improved/ stepped up from last term. From what I’ve heard thus far, Cambridge seems to back on track after the break…so things are happening. I think if Cambridge played Selborne now, the score line would be different from the last time.

As much as I was favouring Selborne over Queen’s last weekend, I was going to be very disappointed if Queen’s had not stepped up like they did on Saturday. As far as this Saturday is concerned, I think Dale will be the ultimate test for Selborne before GREY PE.

At the last College Old Boys – Kearsney Old Boys pre-match phuza they handed out 2 half-half rugby jearsies, KC and MC cut down the middle and joined. I reckon we need to organise one for ou GB. Get it sponsored by Aripiprazole ….

@beet: Yes, and unfortunately the tenseness is still there. This year there was disagreement over the venue. Noord-Kaap wanted to play at GWK Park, Diamantveld as the host this year insisted on their own field. Noord-Kaap also withdrew from the netball, but Diamantveld insists that the netball should go ahead as per agreement. Not clear yet what the outcome on that is. Both schools have new rugby coaches, and at least they seem to get along fine.

@beet: Selborne’s recent form gives me ‘hope’. That battle for second spot is hopeful and I guess we can thank Queens for beating Grey earlier this year for that…but maaaan to have to beat Selborne and QC at the Rec to achieve that may just be too far a bridge.

Oh…I forget one small matter…Hudson Park who we narrowly scraped through by 6 points at the BR Day…who also had close games against both QC and SC…they always turn it up against the colleges. A loss to them, makes whatever happens against SC and QC null and avoid.

    ….look at me stressing…need a warm Fanta… :-|

@Greenwood: Indeed!! Watch for the Glenwood Old Boy / College Parent in neutral colors sitting high up in one of the trees between Snows and Goldstones….

Zane Watson to referee the encounter – he is the best Midlands has to offer and always gives a great performance. Expect the battle at the breakdown to be epic as he likes to let things go a little on the ground – sometimes to the point of frustration, but that will suit both teams I think.

Will not be placing money on the main match – it will be a lot closer than people think. College on Goldstones are a difficult prospect at the best of times. Add to that the drought against their old foe and there will be no shortage of passion from the lads in Red Black and White. The Green Machine will not take it lying down though. Salivating already!! Get there early!!

@Queenian: @Playa: Selborne’s results since the holidays suggest they are not in the same sort of form they had going into the break. Dale must have a chance based on the scores Selborne has been putting up. I can’t see Dale being the top team in the Eastern Cape this year but a win against Selborne puts them in a strong possie to claim 2nd place overall.

@Greenwood: @Grasshopper: I agree. Big game. College will want to try get their first win vs Glenwood since 2010 – I think that is a record unbeaten streak for Glenwood in the rivalry.

Like Hopper says Glenwood needs to win to make absolutely certain they end first in KZN in the national rankings (they last achieved this in 2011).

Hopper – to me this is going to be as big and as intense as the 150th game – College will come out firing and will be determined to stop Glenwoods’ winning streak against College (which must be a record for GW) – expect a full house !!!!

Massive KZN derby in PMB!! Going to try and make it. If it’s anything like last year, it shouldn’t be missed. Glenwood will want to finish on a high and prove they are KZN’s best. College will want to prove a few things too…

@Playa: I hear the Baboona have become quite a pest around the King and Queenstown mountains the last few years we need to skin a few of them.

@kosie: I agree with you, but would love to see Monnas v/s Garsies and EGJ v/s Garsies this year. These are games that Garsies need to proof that they are one of the best in SBR, it will be unfortunate for them if Jan Henning and Papier are not available to play. They make a used difference in the Garsies team, but good luck to all the teams. Can’t wait to see Monnas and Garsies 0/15A in the dust storm Saturday.

Beeld Macro schools should have the following winners:
Egj, Kempies, HTS and Garsies. Hope I am wrong on some of the predictions!

@Woltrui: PBHS played well on Saturday, leading until a 3 try burst in the last 10 minutes. I rate them to be competitive on Saturday. Could be a snorter of a match…
