KZN vs Gauteng Festival 2014: KZN triumphant again

Nine KZN schools including listed “Top School” George Campbell and Port Natal took part in the annual 2 Day KZN/Gauteng Festival held at Bryanston High School in Gauteng this year. KZN emerged as 11-7 winners. Well done to all the schools that took part! The festival will be hosted by KZN in 2015.

    Well the article above states that the “Top Natal Schools” which competed were George Campbell and Port Natal, which is probably correct. These schools are category 3 teams per BHP’s formula but struggled (and even lost a game) against category 0 teams like Krugersdorp and Randpark. Note that Krugersdorp played St Stithians 2nd team a few weeks ago and Saints is a Cat 2 team per BHP’s formula. Indeed, Pinetown lost to Bryanston who regularly lose to Saints 2nd team….but Saints 1st team is Cat 2??

    So….either BHP’s formula needs reworking…or these category 0 teams from Gauteng played out of their socks!! Let’s fact it, cat 0 beating cat 3 is like cat 2 beating cat 5 team – e.g. Pinetown beating HJS Paarl! :wink:

    To be honest, I’m quite surprised by a lot of these scores. Can anyone who watched this festival let me know if the Gauteng schools have improved or if the Natal schools have declined?

    The Gauteng Schools performed much better then last year judging by the score margins.
