KZN schools’ progress at Paarl Boys High under-15 tournament

Glenwood, Kearsney and Westville are playing in the Paarl Boys High under-15 Rugby Week. Here is some feedback on the KZN schools’ Match-day 1 & 2 from a keen follower at the event.

On Day 1 Westville had a solid win over Bishops 18-0. Bishops played their usual expansive game but they did not have the skills to back it up. Westville were accurate at the break down and deserved the win.

Glenwood were up against Boland Lanbou. The boys from Durban started the game with scintillating play and opened the scoring. After that the match was evenly poised with Glenwood finding some fire late in the 2nd half to score 2 more goals to eventually win 19-6.

Kearsney had a tough match against the hosts Paarl Boys. Despite the efforts of their talented loose forwards, Paarl were just too strong running out 39-0 winners. It is going to be tough for any team to beat this Paarl team.

On Day 2 of the Paarl u15 Festival the KZN Teams had tough matches.

Kearsney had another tough game and lost narrowly to Sterrenberg 19-16. Both teams played with incredible pace and perhaps a draw would have been a good result. Kearsney had an opportunity to kick at goal in the last minute to level the scores but an eager player took a quick tap, with the resulting play being rushed and the ball becoming unplayable and that’s how it ended.

Westville and Wynberg had a titanic struggle with the lead changing several times. This was an entertaining match with Wynberg eventually winning 25-17. The Westville 10 had another great game creating go-forward ball for the team.

Glenwood were up against Paul Roos. The game was played at a frenetic pace and both sides showed great skill. In the end they shared the spoils at 15-15. Glenwood had the better of the exchange and were unlucky not win the match. A few wrong decisions cost the boys.

@BOG: Ek het nie by veel rugby uitgekom nie. Was elke dag by Rondebosch maar dit was maar baie stillerig daar by Gim. Het nie veel gehoor van my stoep af nie. Verstaan jou span het hulle op dag 1 verrinneweer. My laaitie is nou by PRG en gaan ek jou kom kuier daar in Osfontein later in die jaar.

PaarlBok moet nou verander na BosBok.

@PaarlBok: Ou Boksie, hoe lyk sake daar by julle, in die nat Kaap? Ek is n bietjie afgesny van die nuus. Hoe het dinge verloop met die rugby- spesifiek met die onder ouderdomsgroepe?

@CharlesZA: A good side that looked a little disjointed and need to work on their interplay.Worth keeping a eye on them.

I thought the Kearnsey 5;7 and 8 were good and played well off each other, maybe also due to the fact that they are big boys!
