As a Blue Bulls supporter I was SO proud of my team last night. Jaques Du Plessis has a great future ahead of him. The amount of tackles he made in channel one was astounding. He was my man of the match. Stegman coming back to top form. He had a very good game. Willemse in my opinion now the 3rd best no 4, after Eben and Flip, in SA. The Bulls and SA urgently need a 5 of the quality of Victor Matfield. The pressure he helped to create on the Charkies line-out was crucial. The Charkies. As a Springbok supporter I am worried that some class players like Bismark, Jannie, the Beast and Willem Alberts is being overplayed. These top players looked mentally tired last night. Especially Bizzy. Must be a worry for Heyneke. Frans Steyn on the other hand is hitting his straps and a must at 12 for the Boks. The Bulls must just sharpen up on their discipline. It almost cost the Bulls the match last night. Last night it was obvious how the experienced players-read theCharkies- kept their discipline under pressure.
Hard at the moment if you have the Cheetahs and Sharks as bankers- with the Cheetahs to win and the Sharks to loose
What a fight back from the Stormers 24-20 with 4 minutes to go!
Stormers is besig om in die hek te duik. 24-6 agter.
Weekend results:
Wp/Crusaders: How unlucky can 1 team be. What a joy it was to watch the Mountain goats play Saturday. The way they tackled for 10 or 15 minutes on their try line in the first half was something to behold. Schalk and Deon Fourie, wow!! Schalk. The first player I will put into my springbok team. Same with Jean de Villiers. Can’t believe there is people who would even consider dropping these players from the Boks. IMHO the referee and touchjudges missed a blatant forward pass from a line-out that lead to the Crusaders try. I was also waiting for the NZ touch judges to call for a penalty to give the match to the Crusaders at the end of the game. It reminded me a lot about the “Juppies must be learned a lesson” e-mail between NZ and Aus referees a couple of seasons ago. Fnuckers.
Downside of the Province game. Line outs. Eish.
Charkies/Lions: No surprise.
Bulls/Blues: The Bulls first fazes was tip top-Keep it up. Nice work Kallie Visagie. We now need consistency from the Beloved, Famous, Beautiful, Brave and Mighty Blue Bulls.
Cheethas: Eina pyn. Think Waltie Vermeulen would want to forget that bump off that led to the Reds no 2’s try as soon as possible
@BoishaaiPa: As if the selections on Superbru has any baring on knowledge of rugby whatsoever? Like saying that some knowledge of Maths is required to gamble ! And just to rub salt in the wounds, in round two, a miracle occurred ! All my predictions were correct (not margins), but the fools at SB, deleted me and after complaining, re-instated me, BUT minus a few results, INCLUDING the single win of the Cheetahs. So, take your pinch of salt, but at your own peril.
@BOG: Looking at your prediction success on Superbru, any comment on the future of SA Rugby should be taken with a pinch of salt!
@BOG: Don,t she picked you and look how that turned out.
@beet: The problem with JLP is inconsistency. When he was playing for the Cheetahs, he would be the best FH in SA one weekend and the worst, the next. But I suppose that is better than consistently bad- as some of the Cheetahs are playing right now.
Dont get carried away by the performance of the Sharks. Their winning margins over the Hurricanes and the Bulls, were just, just—.Lets wait until deeper into the season. But I did say that SA would be playing in the 3N- with Namibia and Zim. Perhaps just sooner than what I thought. But I got the grand total of 2 results right for Superbru. In future, Im asking my wife to do the selections for me.
@beet: JLP did bring a breath of fresh air to the Bulls Backline play. Our lineouts were very good-didn’t loose one ball on our own throw ins. Scrum, mmmm…. tough one, maybe the lions took it by 52 to 48%. The Lions loose head prop looks like a real mean scrummager. The Bulls tight five were, imho, much better than the Lions in the second fazes.
How good is the NZ teams at this stage of the season?? At current form I think the only SA team that stand a chance against them is the Charkies.
The Bulls needed something different at 10 and they got it tonight with JLP at flyhalf.
@beet: Aggeneeeee Mnr Beet. Don’t ruin a friendship. The Mighty Bulletjies will be back (Don’t know when or where)!!
Marnitz Boshoff. Marnitz was playing his 4th game for Nelspruit Hoerskool as a Grade 11 people. Youngster in the team. Nellies were playing their last pool game in the Super 16 (Tuks series). Nellies had to win to go through to the 1 to 8 play off. Loose and they go to the 9 to 16 play off. Nellies scored at the end of the match to trail by 6 points. From the kick off Nellies ran with the ball and scored a brilliant try next to the posts. Literally 1 meter from the post. For some reason Marnitz picket the ball up. Ran back, turned around and dropped the goal-missing comfortably. Not one of his best goal kicks ever. Look as if he has taken that drop kick to heart since he hasn’t missed a lot since then.
@Tjoppa: No qualms about any of the results, the Lions and Sharks were well-deserved victors, although the Sharks were on the wrong end of some shaky calls that kept the ‘Canes in the game, especially at scrum time, and should have run away with it.
The Stormers and the Bulls were poor and their results are a fair reflection on the coaching teams currently in place at the respective franchises (note, not the talent).
@Woltrui: If the Bulls wanted to be invisible on the points log, those camouflage outfits are having the desired effect.
Stormer’s coach AC is Frans Ludeke’s best friend right now. Even against 13 the Stormer’s attacking designs are so poor they could not get points.
Marnitz Boshoff, who I’ve been telling Muzi is better than Frans Brummer ever since the 2 competed for the Bulls junior rugby no.10 jersey is just oozing confidence these days. Not sure what will happen when Jantjies returns. On this kind of form, there is no ways Boshoff can be dropped. He might even force Heyneke Meyer to reconsider his stance on not selecting anything Lions for the Boks.
@Woltrui: And then you let Willie also go. Someone is not doing his job.
Maar ja Wollie I am worried about the depth at the Lions. Saturday is going to be massive and the jackpot big. At least we are two Lions supporters now.
Bulls…(sigh), what can we say. Poor performance by our 9, 10, 12.
Sharks look like our (SA) flag bearers. Lions great team effort. Lot of hunger in the team(the old Nelspruiter Marnitz Boshof not good enough?? Don’t know if we should laugh or cry at the stupidity in our admin structures in Pretoria) WP, Jean De Villiers said it all at the after match interview. No motivation and hunger on the night.
I Quote “this weekend the Sharks were a well-coached team and the Bulls obviously an over-coached team. Sadly, the Cheetahs seemed a poorly coached team and the Lions an extremely lucky team.” What did Gary Player say “The harder you practise the luckier you get”. Ploegie now for your take on the Stormers please.
