@jakes: Jakes no I am sorry (must be the effect of those 2 whiskeys). Offcourse Kempies is playing in the Nupower. I saw the game between Kempies and Nellies at LC de Villiers stadium
@Speartackle: Mr Speartackle I suspect Affies is going to have a difficult year in 2014. Suppose there would be a couple of young players in the team.

@Woltrui: Die matriekgroep van Affies vir volgende jaar was baie gemiddeld deur die ouderdomsgroepe. Is hulle st 9 groep sterk vir 2014 of het baie nuwe matrieks ‘ingeskryf’?

Kempies have been playing in the Nu power the last 3 or so years. Did they withdraw for 2014? Not aware of that. The new format where there is no 1/4 final and there is basically no change of winning the competition if you have one mishap, is damping the spirit of this competition. Looked what happened to Garsies and EG Jansen this year. Klofies also withdrew this year

@Jakes: Agree with your list jakes. IMHO HTS infront of Kempies and Centurion in front of Garsies. Think the Monnas supporters will feel Monnas must be no 1 since they have beaten Affies 3 or 4 times in a row. Wonder why Kempies is not playing in the Nupower?

NV predicted log for 2014 (after a whiskey or 2) looks as follow:

    -HTS Middelburg
    -Klofies
    -Garsies
    -Affies
    -Nellies
    -KES
    -Centurion
    -Jansies
    -Transvalia

Garsies to take Nupower and Monnas to win Beeld troffee. 8)

Not the best idea to start a tour like that.

@jakes: I believe that the Leicester Tigers Academy beat EG Jansen by 51 to 0 on Friday. Is it the EG u17 or u18 team on tour? If it is the u17 team then that is a hell of a tough opening fixture to play a provincial u18 team out of season for Jansies!

@ Roger- EG Jansen is 58 years old this year, school is in Boksburg, East rand.Their rugby started picking up from around 1995. They are a co-ed school with about 500 boys currently in the school(speak under correction)..They have a lot more girls than boys in the school though, do not know the reason for that..

Rodger the Dodger, the SBR landscape has been changing and will continue to do so as the young guns catch up. Best all the old, historic, traditional archaic toffs pull their heads from their collective butt and take note of the EG’s Outeniqua’s and Garsfontein’s, these boys will be beating the likes of Houghton Ridge High and other regional powder houses regularly over the next 100 years. BTW, Tygerberg will be 60 next year.

Actually sad to see Klerksdorp only 56th. One of the powerhouses during the Admin Cup era and supplier of Sharks stalwarts Wiehann Herbst, Riaan Viljoen and SA’s next great 12, Andre Esterhuizen. What a season he had with the u/21’s and still only 19. Martin Bezuidenhout and Elton Jantjies also former pupils there.

Klerksdorp reminds me a lot of the West Rand…………you can take someone out of Klerksdorp but you can never get the Klerksdorp out of him. ( Long John Berks )

@ Valke- you are so right. Does anyone realize that EG Jansen was about to share the number 1 spot with Grey College in 2008 ? But then there was that mishap in the Beeld semi final against Klofies, after they have beaten Klofies in the Nu power semis and Monnas in the Finals to win that competition. In 2004 they have knocked Affies out in the super 16 ( the fist team that could manage that) only to be beaten narrowly by Affies in the Beeld final..EG had some bad luck in Beeld trophy semis and finals in the past due to depth and injuries, but this year they managed to keep the players in shape..They had some brilliant teams since 2004..

@Playa: I was in an environment where we paid R55 for KWV-3 yr- PER CASE, delivered abroad. Now you have an idea what is paid in customs and excise. Ten year old was far too expensive- that was R76 per case. Five yr old, was somewhere in between. We always said -the more we drank, the more we saved. The most expensive KWV red wine, was R55 pcase. But, that were them days. I am a teetotaler now for more than 13 yrs

According to BHP the Noordvaal top 10 log since 2009 look as follow.
    Affies
    Monnas
    Kloof
    KES
    Garsies
    Jansies
    Kempies
    Centurion
    HTS
    Nellies
I don’t have stats available but in my opinion this log cannot be correct. In my opinion the top 3 is pretty accurate. Although I do regard KES as one of the best schools in the country and have a soft spot for the reds, they don’t play the powerhouse Northvaal schools on a regular basis to come even close to a 4 place on the NV log. KES in my opinion at number 10 in the NV. Nothing against Garsies but even Rugbyman and Djou would agree that Garsies weren’t even close to the top 10 before 2013. Garsies weren’t even playing Nupower(top 16 Afrikaans schools in NV) before 2013. Because of their 2013 season maybe no 10 on the NV log. The 2 Mpumalanga powerhouses, HTS and Nellies has consistently being top competitors in both the Nupower and Beeld trofee. The same with Jansies. Can definitely not be behind Garsies and KES. IMHO the top ten should be something as follow:
    Affies
    Monnas
    Kloof
    HTS Middelburg
    Jansies
    Kempies
    Nellies
    Centurion
    KES
    Garsies

Last 30 years will see them fall of the list, but will see Kempies and Hugenote Springs right up there. Hugies won a couple of Beeld trophies in the ’80’s.
