Grey High tour the UK with 2014 1st XV squad

From Grey High School in Port Elizabeth
Grey High will undertake a 13 day tour of England and Wales as part of their preparation for next season. The 25 man squad will depart on the 23rd of November to play 5 matches against Abingdon in Oxford, Plymouth College, Millfield, Monmouth in Wales, before playing London Irish U17 on the the 1st of December. The tour is seen as an ideal platform to develop combinations for next season, develop a good team culture before the onset of the school season while also experiencing a foreign culture. The squad is as close to full strength as possible, only incumbent flyhalf Garrick Mattheus and centre Rohan Knoetze are unavailable as they have been selected for the Eastern Province U17 cricket team.

Well, well done to Grey PE, organisers and parents. An experience of a life time awaits.

Wet it will be, so prep here is critical.

Good luck to one and all !!! (lucky buggers)

@sacssupporter: If I’m not mistaken I think Paul was the last guy to captain an unbeaten Grey PE 1st Xv. Should be a great opportunity for the boys. I know the coaches will be looking at combinations more than anything on this tour. Terrible weather that time of the year in the UK though. 14 of these boys represented the 1st Xv at some stage during the year but about 9 were regulars playing more than 15 games. It’s going to be interesting to see how the team comes together next year.

@sacssupporter: I heard so too with 11 players back, but beware Glenwood thought that too in 2011 and came unstuck, they must learn from that and keep grounded. Glenwood too should have a decent side so hope they play Grey PE and KES at the Grey PE festival…

I have two nephews at Monmouth, plus one who was head boy a few years ago. They are rugby mad, as one would expect from a Welsh school, but they should not be a match for Grey. Under normal circumstances, I’d expect a 30 point win for Grey, but taking into account that the conditions will be alien and that it is pre-season, it could be a bit tougher. As Grassy says, Millfield will be the toughest opposition.
