Glenwood versus Westville back in 2014

Finally the adults seem to have that put their differences aside, meaning that in 2014 the boys from Westville and Glenwood can again do what they have always wanted to do all along and that is to just play some good hard rugga against each other.

It’s academic who or what caused the problem which resulted in the fixture being canned in 2013. The hope is that going forward those same decision-makers on both sides can build a better relationship including opening an improved channel of communication.

As far as rugby is concerned, this inter-schools has to be considered the Durban Metro area’s premier schoolboy rugby event. From under-14 all the way up to 1st XV, tough uncompromising battles are fought and the good sportsmanship displayed on the pitch is hard to rival.

The set matchday is 15 March 2014.

The Venue: Not sure. Suspect it’s Glenwood

Rumor has it ( as opposed to APPARENTLY) and I’ve also heard this a few years ago that Glenwood may get a 4th rugga field in that the the Junior Primary School below Bassons may be moving -lets hope this is true

Well done to the boys who made KZN Coastals cricket, looks a strong team. Westville have 8 in all age groups Glenwood 11, Kearsney 7 and DHS 5. Seems Glenwood isn’t just a rugga school…Andile Phehlukwayo also starred in the SA under 19 win over India, 2 for 41 and a catch of the opener :-). Nice to see Old Boys in the Dolphins squad too…

Thanks Bro – yep it aint nice but gotta take it on the chin and somehow get over it.

Let me know where the fixture with our schools will be please as im sure you will hear before me. I guess it be on Dixons although in my opinion it should be a WBHS – but yes i know you will beg to differ but actually im right lol.

That is a very early start so i think both sides will will nervous and struggle but who knows. Hope we win. Time will tell. But yep nice to see us back in battle again. cheers

@Rhino: Sorry to hear about your ballie, very sad and condolences. Check out the Kearsney festival thread we have chatted quite a bit about next years game Glenwood vs Westville on the 15th of March 2014, very early season but it had to be fitted in. Not sure who that suits more as Glenwood are usually slow starters. Also, not sure of the venue too. I think Glenwood will have a more experienced side but Westville have most of their unbeaten Under16’s from 2012…..so again it will be close. I think home advantage will play a factor..

Great to see 3x Glenwood Old Boys ( Fred Zeilanga, Kyle Cooper & Warren Whiteley) and 3x Westville Old Boys (Monde Hadebe, Brynand Stander and Dale Chadwick) playing last night and all playing well! Well done to both school on producing these players!

Some people on this blog are using different jerseys as an indication of what school they support. I certainly hope that all MC supporters are not being associated with comments about their traditional opposition. DHS, Glenwood, Westville etc will always be treated with the utmost respect by MC.

@Jordaan: @Grasshopper: Interesting to note the change/improvement in English and language use over the last few months by Jordaan, Either he is Afrikaans doing an English Major at Oxford and has been attending extra night classes to fast track things, or he is getting his Zimbabwean gardener to now write his posts, or he has stopped using TIK or it is a miracle, take you pick.

@Grasshopper: Let’s all be honest with ourselves here, tradition aside, given whats happened at the school over the last 10 years and in the surrounding area, who would honestly send their kid to DHS unless they were offered a scholarship??

@Jordaan: We only play DHS once a year, we only have a double header with College. DHS are one of our longest rivals, played since 1922, played 142, DHS won 80, Glenwood won 52, drawn 11. Until we equal wins canning them cannot be considered. It’s the oldest derby in Durban. Strength for strength down the age groups and back to G team then yes Westville are our main rivals in Durban. However, good old school traditions cannot just be chucked out the window. Between 1922 and 1959, we played DHS 77 times, winning only 14, losing 56 and drawing 7……imagine if they had dropped us then, we would not be where we are today. DHS have great new management now, even though are arch rivals we should be helping them back to strength by playing them and showing the level they need to get back to. At A team level in Under14 and Under15 it was a couple of points separating the sides. They will be strong again in 2016, 150 years since they opened their doors. Deo Fretus and Nihil Humani Alienum, brothers and enemies at the same time!

@Grasshopper: Bottom line is if DHS is no longer that tier 1 competitor that they have been in the past, they need to be replaced so that Glenwood has home and away fixtures every year that are competitive, against a school like Westville where their is generally never more than 5 – 10 points in it every year.

When last did DHS beat Glenwood and Westville (I think about 10 years ago) for that matter? What’s the point of having home and away fixtures, just for tradition sake, if the school is longer competitive. DHS need to earn that right to be able to play Glenwood, College etc twice a year. Until then, it’s a waste of everyone’s time.

@Greenwood: If DHS was canned that would be hugely disappointing. I for one would not want to see that especially with DHS junior A sides being more than competitive. Saying that, where has Horsie been? Glenwood and DHS Old Boys won’t allow that to happen. Also, Kershaw is a DHSOB he wouldn’t agree to that. They panned us for years and never dropped us so the same must be applied by us…

We need to have a home and away game against the ‘ville each season

maybe the 2 Trevors should talk about this – this is certainly what both schools supporters will punt for

by far the best Durban Metro teams

heard thru the boys at Glenwood that the DHS fixture may be canned – also heard and I hope it’s not true that School may drop to 2nd tier & play the likes of Kloof , Hillcrest – no disrespect meant here – all the School vs Gwd games I’ve seen over the past 4 years DHS may have lost but the game on the field was a lot tougher & competitive than what the scoreboard shows

Great news. Not worried about where it’s played. Just good to get the fixture going again. Next step – home and away each season. Then home ground taken out of the equation.

@Jordaan: hell of a statement. adding petrol to an already strained situation. That is most arrogant and will just raise the game of the likes of College,Westville,Kearsney and the rest.
I will go as far as saying that you might find the College 1st team fixture a little hot for Glenwood to handle.

@star: sorry star. kearsney to have home ground advantage. just like cricket- rained out. But am sure that the venue won’t make a difference as Westville believe they have the wood on us. At age group level it was a close run thing last time out and I expect the same.

Finally Arrogant Hall has come to the realization that Glenwood dictate the roster and schedule and that all other schools must revolve around us because we are by far the best rugby school in KZN!

I am not sure which team comes out of the blocks better but as the date is the 15/03/14 then that will certainly be a factor in the end result. If we play on Dixons then Kearsney must play on Bowdens to balance the books so to speak.
