WATERPOLO

Although water polo is a serious summer sport in this country, it is also one in which SA has lots and lots of room for improvement if it wants to catch up to the world’s best. Last year at the first ever FINA World Championships for under-18, SA came 17 our of 19 suggesting that of the countries taking water polo seriously, we are one of the worst. Perhaps SA needs a few overseas coaches to come over and help???

Well the cricket no 5( Westville) played the no 1( Waterkloof) and prevailed by 2 wickets. Got a bit too close for comfort chasing 95. I hope this gives some confidence heading into the Michaelmas week.

@Woltrui: Paul Roos played 50 over games against St. Albans, Affies and Pretoria Boys High on 3 consecutive days. We beat St. Albans and Pretoria Boys High, but lost to Affies. Garsfontein was hit and hope 20 overs a side.

Water polo – not so sharp. Clifton and Hilton look like the teams to beat in KZN this year.

Some very good results from College on Saturday as well. Besides the basketball, which I just know College won:

    1sts College 257/5 – DHS 144 all out
    3rds College 72/2 – DHS 67 all out
    U16A College 274 – DHS 250/7 (50-over match)
U15A College 245/1 – DHS not sure but lost
    U14A also won very well.

    Don’t have the rest yet.

Groot oorwinning (104 lopies) vir Affies oor Paul Roos. Sjoe, sien selfs Garsies het Paul Roos baie gemaklik (4 paaltjies) geklop. Sien die boertjies begin darem rond te plas in die water ook. Verstaan hulle het die swemskool Westville geklop??? Moet ‘n eerste wees

@Pedantic: Yep, but well done to Kearsney, no excuses. Andile Phehlukwayo might have made a difference. Surely Tedder made the SA Under19 too? Kearsney certainly has the cream and still able to compete and beat much bigger Gov schools at A and 1st team level. I believe our tennis team beat Kearsney though in a recent tourno which is a big achievement :-)

@Grasshopper: The cricket was very tight in the end – Kearsney were only 3 down with around 12 runs and coasting to win but an incredible fightback from Glenwood (Pearce in particular who bagged 5 wickets) saw Kearsney losing 5 or 6 wickets for only 2 runs and putting themselves under massive pressure!

Also keep in mind that Glenwood’s top bowler was away on SA U19 duty.

Well done Kearsney for the ‘double’ over Glenwood, both the cricket and rugby were very close. The cricket on Sat must have been nerve wrecking!
