An all Valke Beeld Trofee final on the way

Defending champions Kempton Park and EG Jansen will contest this year’s Macro Schools Beeld Trofee final on Saturday and bring down the curtain on one of the most memorable Noordvaal seasons.

Kempies accounted for a huge surprise when they beat the much fancied Klofies side 22-21 in the semi-final. Just a week earlier Klofies had stunned everyone with a rather one-sided 51-5 victory against the HTS Middelburg. Earlier in the season HTS had claimed the NuPower-Tuks trophy and are definitely no push-overs. The 2013 Kempies 1st XV is definitely not as good as the 2012 team that won the Beeld.  Even though this year’s Kempies team have strung together some decent results this season, their appearance in the final is an overachievement of note and deserves to be applauded.

EG Jansen, ranked no.5 nationally has without any doubt been one of the best teams in South Africa this year and based on their performances they deserve to win a trophy. Interestingly I ran a story on this blog long before the season kicked off suggesting that Jansies had put in an application to go down to the Big Schools Beeld, which they are perfectly entitled to do based on the number of students they have. However fortunately they did not. It would have been a travesty of justice if their 1st XV containing numerous star players wasn’t allowed to showcase their talent on the biggest Noordvaal stage of them all.

To get to the final EG Jansen had to beat another of the 2013 Noordvaal heavyweights  – the White Rhinos of Nelspruit. Nellies have been consistently good this year and it’s little wonder they are ranked at 7 in South Africa (BHP Rankings) coming into this week. EG Jansen however inflicted the heaviest defeat of 2013 on the Pumas region powerhouse with a 53-35 win. The 53-points is testimony to the firepower on attack that EG possesses.

Looking back Jansies and Kempies have clashed twice this season already. On 18 May EG win 45-29 and on 20 July they beat the determined Kempton Park outfit 26-17.

The Valke schoolboy rugby supporters have more to celebrate than a guaranteed Beeld Trofee coming their way. In the Big Schools division Transvalia are also through to the final.

Hulle vewag 4000 – 6000 mense by EG more.

    Liga Finaal was baie taai.

    Beeld trofee is hulle fokus.

Hier kom ‘n groot wedstryd !!

Thanks for the update Beet- Good luck to the players, the schools and the coaches..Beeld trofee finals always a huge occasion. I am sure Jansen’s grounds will be packed on Saturday. It will be the last school game for most of the boys so will give it their all. Good luck to EG Jansen to possibly clinch their ever first Beeld trophy. And then off course the other falcons school, Transvalia, to claim their first Beeld trofee title in the BIG schools region.
