Sterkte Boishaai!!

    @Smallies:

It’s about teachers coaching at Grey. According to Smallies it’s part of their success. Obviously it helps a lot but schools in general don’t have enough male teachers to coach sports, let alone rugby.
Guys like Helgaard Muller, Tewis de Bruyn and Wian du Preez (not teachers) have been assisting the 1st team and Cherries for a long time. I know they are Old Boys and I suppose that’s the reason nothing is said about that.

@optimistix: I actually thought the game was quite even in many respects. Paul Roos made too many mistakes though. Penalty count was over double that of Bishops. When the game was still there to be won with the score at 16-8 to Bishops, the Bishops 10 Johnny Roche came up with two assists, both excellent which put the result beyond doubt. I would have awarded him man of the match for that alone. No12 Bruce Sherwood was a close second. I can’t believe he is still u17. He is a bit of a freak strength wise. He has played two very good games in a row, in a position with a few boys who would make great candidates for WP Craven Week. Even the Bosch 12 put his hand up this weekend.

Also credit to the Bishops props. Their mobility and little contributions outside of the setpieces counted for a lot on the day.

@strepie, I think you are being harsh. the Boishaai rugby program has had unbelievable success over a very long period. Look at your excellent record against Grey B over past 10 years. Nobody has such a record against them. By all accounts, your current coach Peter E is very highly rated. He has unfortunately had a nightmare with injuries and a very strange result against Grey B. As i said, the Grey B game was actually very close. Not so long ago, our old boys wanted us to change coaches after several interschool losses: how crazy was that. We have set our goal to be in the top 5 every year, it is impossible to beat Boishaai and Grey every year and only one school can be nr 1.

@Vyfster: Goed gedoen BV.

@Trots HJS (Tandem): then I have to take back my comment, if they can get those 6 guys who amongst have won a world cup, junior world cup, coached at world cups, coached at Super rugby, and take a team with no Super stars that have never lost a game of rugby in their lives, and just pay these guys entry level teaching salaries so they can build two astros, and win Grey by one point for the first time since Polly played, yes, then this team of coaches should be called the best in SA and should go down in Gims legacy as the Hall of fame coaching staff.

@kantako: Gim coaching program includes : Pieter Rossouw , Helmut Lehman , Dawie Theron , Christoff Lotter . Then Pieter can call on his brother Chris , Jacques Nienamer has been helping and then there are several other excellent coaches lower down . Then old boys such as Alwyn Rossouw and Rian Gous are all close to the rugby program . Only Grey come close to such rugby IP .

@gimmie: im also a Gimmie supporter. They wont be easily beaten this year, and yes the 10 missed a few, also nailed a massive one that maybe sealed the game and I think he is still top point scorer in SA this year so far.
Exactly what Im saying, quite a team full of superstars, coaching team very good (not best in SA in my opinion) Im sure a lot of coaches in SA would have gone unbeaten with this team this year AND NEXT YEAR.

Then again Gim might not have enough money to pay ALL the coaches a big salary, surely one does get paid a very good salary, but not too many rugby schools who has two astro hockey pitches come to think of it. So money definitely not an issue mate.

I can assure you that our coaching team will not rank in the top 10 best paid coaching teams in SA…I am embarrassed to admit that because they should be better paid but we simply do not have the funds. Be that as it may, look at the quality of rugby they produce, not whether they always win, when you judge a coaching team…on the Grey game, our 10 missed about 13 points off the tee…

@gimmie: very bold statement to make that Gim has the best coaching team in SA, I think there are quite a few good coaching teams around at the moment, maybe to mention EG Jansen that Rudi has led Glenwood to great hights and also put PTA Boys back on the map, and great success with Tuks, along with him Regardt has led EG to Virsekerbeker champs in the past, and also with Tuks getting good results, at Durbanville Hans has coached the Lions in Currie Cup, HjS Peter I think won the CC with Griquas, Northwood has Bashie who has done well with the Sharks and Jeremy who was had great success with Sharks Grant Khomo and Cravenweek, Monnas has Tjaart who has won two Virsekerbekers with Garsies and also with Monnas, Garsies has Hendre who have coached at Bulls and in France, Waterkloof now has the SA schools coach in Cobus and former Oakdale coach in Lukas and former Drostdy coach in Renier in their team, Affies has Bulls Craven week coach Jaco and former Garsie Ryno who has had great success as well. I dont even know half of the schools but from the top of my head those are pretty good coaches all involved in schoolboy rugby. This Gimmies coaching staff has been around for a couple of seasons, but yet its the first time in a while thet they have beaten Grey (remember Grey missing a couple of kicks at goal in that one pointer defeat)and remember this is a brand new coach for Grey who took over from Wessel, you also mention tat there are not any stars in the Gimmies team yet I dont think that the grade 11 group has ever lost a game off schoolboy rugby in their life from grade one (I can be wrong) so they are pretty much all stars in that team. I dont think anyone will beat Gim this year and they are definitely well coached and a team full of stars, there will be a few professional rugby players coming from this team in the future because they know how to win. But the best coaching team in the SA. I disagree. The highest paid coaching team in SA, yes you might have a point there.

What a tight game at Westville , it could have gone either way , the House 1sts did so much good stuff out there but never managed to put the points on the board. For House , Kirk and the back row stood out ( to my untrained eye ).

Overall MHS payed 17 and won 13 games yesterday, they will be very happy with that ( after winning 16 / 17 last week at Kearsney).

In what appears to be a scheduling abomination, MHS are up against Glenwood on Wednesday; things could get messy.

@Vyfster: Daar was ‘n “Changing of the guard” by Nelspruit na die 2019 seisoen.

@beet: just to add….Montana made the playoffs last time around….but lost to Eldoraigne by 6 in semifinal, after beating them by 3 in leaugue game.

Ironically they beat the 3 other semi finalist in the league stages , Ben Vorster with one , Eldo’s with 3 and Rustenburg easily…..they also beat Nelspruit with 30 points, and Zwartkop with many….but lost against Marais Viljoen and Kempton Park…..who didn’t make the playoffs.
Very unpredictable, anything can happen on the day….but Montana is getting bigger and stronger every year…their future looks bright

But I must add, it is good to see Nelspruit back as a force….2018 and 19 were not good for them, but they are back and gonna be difficult to stop

Dis jul groot kans vanjaar om daardie koppie te lig….maar Monnas, Garsies en Menlo gaan dit ook nie weggee nie…..op huidige vorm lyk dit na ‘n EG- Monnas finaal…maar baie water moet nog in see loop….dit kan op einde netsowel Garsies teen Menlo of Kloof wees…you never know.
Maar julle is Virseker die vroe gunstelinge

@VanniLaeveld: sorry, welgedaan….lyk my julle is op die oorlogspad vanjaar
@beet: thanx, yes I think the plate division will be extremely competitive this year….more so than the Cup , where HTS Middelburg, Helpmekaar, Marais Viljoen and Noordheuwel are definitely a big notch lower than EG Jansen and Monnas this year, with Waterkloof, Menlo and Garsies should also be comfortable winners over the first 4 on first team level.

The first team games in plate division is gonna be very close …..with ironically the team demoted from the top league ( Transvalia) who is going to struggle most.

Ben Vorster is the reigning champs in that division, but 5 of their 7 league games were 1 score affairs , they actually lost with 1 point to Montana, beat Nelspruit with 2 points, Eldoraigne with 5, Rustenburg with 10, Marais Viljoen with 4
All their wins were close, except for beating Zwartkop 95-17
In the semis the Vossies beat Rustenburg with 4/and in final Eldoraigne with 1 point.

One can already see in Bv 33-27 Montana, and Zwartkop 14-7/Middelburg it’s gonna be tight again, but Nelspruit’s big win over Transvalia doesn’t bode well for Valia.

I think Rustenburg and Nelspruit probably slight favorites, but Zwartkop has impressed so far this year with a 45-21 win over Oos -Moot and a a 7 pointer over a strong Middelburg side , who beat Ermelo 47-7 a weak ago, they will be itching for revenge after their 17-95 loss 2 years ago.
The Vossies will of course give everything to defend their title….and are off to a good start with a good away win….they can win it, but so can 5 other teams….I don’t think aTransvalia or Kemptonpark is strong enough this year.

The other big battle will of course be to promote to the cup ….there I think the Vossies is too small, with not enough depth among their age groups to make it….remember, most of these schools are twice BV’s size….There Montana has a chance, but I think Rustenburg and Nelspruit will be the most likely candidates…but you never know.

Look at poor Eldoraigne, their first team lost with 1 point in final, but overall their school finished last in 2019 , and were demoted to the shield section….anything is possible , I suppose

Good luck to all, I just hope Covid doesn’t cut the season short…at least the Vossies beat Pietersburg again last week…for me that is still our most important game….winner gets bragging rights as top dog in Limpopo

very clinical performance from Paarl Gym at Wynberg today. conditions were atrocious. our pack was superb…Gym is a team with very few stars but has the best coaching team in SA…Big statement from Bishops today. nrs 10, 12 and 13 were superb, and they will be even better when Bruce Campbell is back from injury. I struggle to understand why they perform so inconsistently…The Paarl Boys vs Bishops game in Paarl on the 29th will be epic…Paarl Boys seems to struggle to get going, in my view they have the best players in SA, they are just not firing, the score line against Grey B was not a reflection of the game..i expect them to be back at their best very soon..

@Palma: I watched the first half of Kingswood vs Hudson Park. Hudson look like hot property. They had a red card early on when the score was 5-5 but still created better quite a few chances which they did not convert due to bad pass/catch when it was on and may be a few poor decisions to hold onto the ball too long.

@Strepie: En? I wonder if Transvalia’s visit to Nelspruit will still be on?

Grey’s best bet for a match now might be Nelspuit or with some persuading Maritzburg College. That would leave Sarel Cilliers to play Clifton at College.

I think Clifton vs Sarel Cilliers would make a good match. But whoever they play Clifton desperately need to fix their lineout. To say it malfunctioned against St Charles, almost feels like an understatement.

    Bishops vs Paul Roos
    Boland Landbou vs SACS
