Northwood names new headmaster

Tony Jordan recently retired after 39 years of teaching service, over 25 of which was spent at Northwood. His replacement as headmaster at Northwood is a big rugby fan which bodes well for the school and school rugby in KwaZulu-Natal in general. Here is the newsletter confirming the new appointment.

The Board of Governors are excited to announce the appointment of Mr Paul McAvoy to Principal of Northwood School effective from 22 February 2013.

Paul originally came to Northwood from Rand Park High School in Johannesburg where he served as Deputy Principal since 2008. He commenced at Northwood in October 2012 as a Deputy Principal.

Paul has exceptional leadership attributes having experience in many areas of educational responsibility at a leadership level.

Paul also has an outstanding organisational and managerial track record within secondary education, both in South Africa and in the United Kingdom, with wide ranging leadership experience and a current in-depth knowledge of performance assessment, academic curriculum, educational legislation and human resource management. His expertise and experience includes information technology, marketing, financial and personnel management. Paul has an Honours Degree in Educational Management.

Paul is an avid lover of sport and its role in the development of boys at high school and has participated at a national and international level at chess both as a player and coach.

Paul is married to Vivien and they have one son at primary school in Durban North.

The Northwood Board of Governors congratulates Paul and wishes him every support for the significant role he is to perform in the journey ahead as Principal of Northwood.
