Sandile Kubeka wins a KZN school sports award

Sandile Kubeka the Kearsney College, KZN Schools and SA Schools rugby player has won Daily News School Sports Zone Hero of the Year award. He was chosen from a list of 36 school sports achievers.  Kubeka enjoyed his third season in the Kearsney one-stripe first team jersey and was without doubt one of the best rugby players in KwaZulu-Natal this year. Playing at outside centre, his infusion of pace and power made him seemingly unstoppable at times and resulted in a number of advantage-line game-breaks. He scored 11 tries this season. Kubeka is one of only a handful of school players to have been offered a contact by the Sharks for 2013.

The runners-up awards went to Heather McEwan of Epworth High School in Pietermaritzburg for indoor and outdoor hockey and Durban High School’s Trent Bingham for sailing.

Great stuff Sandile. Also good to see a Centre getting an award – normally not the glory boys on the field.

Well done Sandile :-). Just out of interest, is this voted by the public or a committee of sportsman?
