Paarl Gymnasium’s Director of Rugby slash Head Coach Pieter Rossouw is back in Japan helping out Jimmy Stonehouse’s Toshiba Brave Lupus once again and it looks like he will be in the Land of the Rising Sun for quite a while this time around.
Earlier this year Rossouw who is an Old Boy, with the full blessing of Gim, was away in Japan for 4 games of the regular season. The adjustments that had to be made in his absence seemed to derail what was a very successful season up until his departure as the Gimmies u19A team went down to both SACS and Boland Landbou.
It’s obviously a great financial move for the former Bok wing and respected coach to be involved in the lucrative Japanese competition but where does it all leave Gim 1st XV rugby and their preparations for 2018? All their main rivals seem to have their head coaches locked in and fully committed to the cause without much distractions.
2018 may prove to be a far more challenging season for Gim to achieve good results and it will be interesting if the powers that be at SA’s leading Co-ed rugby school make any calls to ensure their top rugby post is occupied by a coach who puts the school and 1st XV first on the priority list.
