Sergeal Petersen in the Kings Superugby squad

Sergeal Petersen, the 18-year-old Grey High and SA Schools wing has been named in the Southern Kings Superugby extended squad. Earlier this week the Bulls named five schoolboys in their wider training group. Just going by the number of talented and experienced senior players that the Bulls already have at their disposal, the five young selections represented little more than a token gesture. In Petersen’s case, the 2012 Craven Week Player of the Tournament finds himself at a franchise without the same quality or depth of the Bulls, meaning his inclusion is legit. Petersen has the attacking attributes to go far at senior level. He has wheels, he can step, he can hold onto a pass and make one if he has to. Whether he gets to see Superugby action in 2013 may just hinge on how he copes with defensive responsibilities and mental composure at a level where things happen far quicker than in schoolboy rugby. Apart from making the odd tackle, a modern day wing has to have a good sense of positional awareness, be reasonably comfortable under the high-ball and be able to make useful clearance or upfield kicks, often under a lot of pressure. Let’s hope those that have final say in the matter are wise and don’t rush or risk young Petersen unnecessarily.

Really how well does this franchise hope to do , with puke leading them , his dad on the board and every franchise hating them for what they imposed on the Lions ,

Would rather see a lions outfit this this bunch , change isn’t always good and in this case a disaster, the y are going to have cricket scores against them , what a frigging joke

@beet: Really?I didn’t bother watching the second leg after that first leg dog show. That must be one of the most tragic debuts ever.

@Playa: Siviwe played in the return leg of the promotion-relegation battle vs FS. Sadly for Siviwe, Noel Falie Oelschig decided to punch Ebersohn and earn himself a red card early on in the game. The Kings had to sub SS to bring on a specialist scrumhalf.

You guys have little faith

Good to see Siviwe Soyiswaphi in that mix. That young man is a great prospect for SA rugby.

The flyhalf and loosie battles will be interesting.

    GO KINGS!!!

@QC86: Yeah. The Kings fans are going to have to set their expectations very low. Might even have to term them “dexpectations”

@Rugger fan: I think he must be on or very near to his sell by date now.

I still remember him from his days as a promising youngster at the Sharks.
