2013 Baby Boks will be in the JWC pool of death

The pools for the Junior World Championships (JWC) has been announced. The same irritating format which sees teams divided into 3 pools, with only the winners of each pool and only the single best second placed pool team overall advancing to the semi-finals, stays in place. In order to book a place in the semis, the Baby Boks will have to once again overcome a well-oiled England team, who by that time would have had benefit of a cohesion building Six Nations tournament under the belt. The South African juniors also have the often unpredictable hosts France in their pool. To ensure survival, it is almost essential for the Baby Boks to secure first place, as second spot in the pool may not be enough to avoid the potentially controversial fourth semi-final place decider. Fortunately Pool B could also be a really tough one if Ireland brings their A-game to match the efforts of Australia and the consistently good New Zealanders. However even at this point in time, one has to make the second place finishers in Pool C where Argentina and Wales are expected to be the pace-setters, the favourites to clinch the last semi-final spot.

Junior World Championship 2013 Pools:

Pool A Pool B Pool C
 England  Australia  Argentina
 France  Fiji  Samoa
 South Africa  Ireland  Scotland
 United States  New Zealand  Wales

At present Baby Bok coach Dawie Theron is busy having his first serious look at under-20 players during the training camp on the go in Stellenbosch. It includes a series of trial games. Comments made by Theron when the training squad was announced included,  “It is still early days, but I am very excited about this squad”; “this will be a first step towards France in June and a lot can happen before then, but it will be good to get the squad together and start moulding them”; “we will no doubt look at those things that worked for us this year and look at how that compliments the strengths of this new group. The camp will be exciting as we’ll get new energy and ideas as well as lot of new faces”; and “a lot of these players played to a particular structure in the last couple of months and it will be interesting to see how they react to new structures and playing partners.”

Baby Bok squad: Jacques Rossouw, Sean Robinson, Cheslin Kolbe, Ruwellyn Isbell, Seabelo Sanata, Kotaro Matsushima, Sylvian Mahuza, JP Lewis, Jan Serfontein, Jade Stighling, Burger Odendaal, Harold Verster, Tyler Fisher, Henko Marais, Justin Geduldt, Francois Tredoux, Robert du Preez, Tim Swiel, Carlo Engelbrecht, Kefentse Mahlo, KK Hlungwane, Percy Williams, Hanco Venter, Stefan Ongerer, Jean Nel, Clyde Davids, Jacques du Plessis, Leneve Damens, Roelof Smit, Ruan Steenkamp, Tienie Burger, Kwagga Smit, Andrew van Tonder, Justin Benn, Jurie van Vuuren, Dennis Visser, Irnè Herbst, Marvin Orie, Myles Tucker, Andrew Bekker, Andrew Beerwinkel, Jan Enslin, Justin Forwood, Neethling Fouchè, Luan de Bruin, Marne Coetzee, Sti Sithole, Jacques du Toit, Mornè du Plessis, Freddie Kirsten.

@QC86: I certainly cannot say that about a client, but I suppose you can. Good guys and a good market for us if you include Krull, Meat4U and Crave in East London.

@QC86: Do you perhaps know or remember an old Welsh butcher in Qtown named Taffy. I used to work for StockOwners in KZN so had very limited dealings with the likes of Eddie L, Peter B, Clive R, Anton G even the abattoir manager Sarel.

@QC86: When you say butchery, are you still in QT? You one of the Cold Store Group boys, or with Farmhouse or Eat Sum Meat?

@QC86: Superbru is 8/10ths luck and 1/10th logic. So your actual rugby knowledge only counts 10%. To prove my point in the past guys like Jake White and Nick Mallett have finished last while Heyneke Meyer was the overall winner. So true rugby skill counts for little. 8)
