Two big games on in Border

Two big matches take place in the Border region today.

Queen’s vs Selborne

At the Rec in Queenstown, the hosts Queen’s will be hoping to get one over their rivals Selborne from East London. A bit of the hype around Queen’s died down after their 17-31 defeat at the hands of Kingswood in March. They also went down to a strong Jeppe in Johannesburg. A win for Queen’s today could go a long way towards bringing results back in line with expectations and set them up for a prosperous term of rugby.

Although Selborne is unbeaten they are yet to hit their stride. A fully fit Leon Lyons will provide a massive boost for the mouthwatering battle of the frontrows today, while all eyes will be on how the Selborne backline performs under newly appointed assistant coach Josh Fowles. Selborne had to contend with an in-season disruption due to highly rated teacher/coach Phiwe Nomlomo leaving to join the Kings via the Academy in Port Elizabeth, where he will be actively involved with the EPRU’s Currie Cup and junior rugby teams.

Hudson Park vs Grens

In recent times Selborne has cemented their place as the East London number-1 rugby school and their battles with Queen’s and Dale of King William’s Town tend to take centre stage, sometimes resulting in a other quality schools of the region not getting the credit they deserve. Hudson Park and Grens, two schools who are offering good competition to the Border powerhouses at the moment, will lock horns today and possibly give a clearer indication of who is Border’s best Co-ed.

Dale has a relatively easy assignment in the form of Port Rex on Saturday, while Cambridge travels to Grahamstown for what promises to be a very good game against Graeme College.
