Current Afrikaans and History teacher Roland Norris has been appointed as Westville 1st XV Head Rugby coach for the next 3-year cycle with effect from 1 October 2015. He will be assisted by JoAsh van Aswegen.
Westville thanked Grant Bell for the fine manner in which he has coached the 1st team over the previous cycle, as well as his assistant coaches, Torsten Sorensen and Dean Carelse.
Westville also welcomes a new u16A coach on board in the form of Dirkie Strydom (HTS Middelburg)
Grant Bell will take charge of the u15A, while Gavin Sweet will head coach for the u14A team.
My boy has been fortunate to have been moulded by all 4 the above Westville coaches. I can say without a doubt that all of them had their contributions to each and every boy they coached. I do think that the new coaching staff have a huge legacy to fill. A great bunch of boys to work with in 2016. Every KZN derby is going to be a cracker….. can’t wait. Just like GB Mr Norris has something special to offer.
Thank the Pope! It’s about time. Am sure the boys will enjoy playing for someone they love and respect. This move should have happened long time ago. I must say the last 12 months have been pretty tough for GB. Lost his positions as Director of Sports, assistant coach for Craven Week and now 1st team coach. Good luck Mr. Norris!
Congrats Mr Norris! Good coach who is well liked by the boys.
I remember Norris at Nwood about 6 years ago I think he coached the best u 16 team Nwood had in a while with about 3 Grant Khomo players pity they couldn’t sort out their differences with management well deserved appointment.
Congratulations to Roland Norris. Now that the decision has been made, the boys will be keen to get into their pre season training starting in October. Good luck to Mr Norris and the boys for next year.
Torsten Sorensen and Dean Carelse must put their CV’s out. Surprised if they are there next year.
That really is good news for Westville – Congrats Mr Norris.
