    having watched WBHS rugby for a few years now there are some VGOOD players coming thru . JAmes Wheeler has grown in size , is qick off the mark but at times puts a few balls down , also good on defence. Chad Hoskens has good hands and vision but lack any pace both in distibuting the ball and off the mark . Also too light and defence is poor.Kitching is bigger faster and attacks space well around the fringes better but tends to play his own game too much. Backline tagen Strydom is great on defence , breaks the gain line, reads the game well and distributes well . has also played the whole club season at full back , better option than Couch whos commitment and work ethic is in question ! Also TS is bigger and faster than Couch . Flyhalf is a real prob at WBHS U16 for next year !

    Just got back from seeing off the 110 boys + medical and coaching staff as they embark on their Inter Provincial Tournament Tour to Kempton Park. The Tournamnet kicks off tomorrow morning at the Barnard Stadium with the finals being played on Saturday. Fixtures for the week can be seen here:

    Beet: Any chance of opening a new thread for this IPT so that we can post scores etc?

    Thanks. Wonder why he moved to DHS? But hey, I’m not complaining! Just means more depth for our u14s! He’s certainly left for the right team!

    @Griffon: While I rate Couch highly in terms of natural ability, I’m not convinced he has the dedication required to make it at provincial level – I see it with a lot of these 14, 15 year old players – all the talent, but the wrong mindset. It almost seems like it’s come too easy for them.

    Conversely, a player like Staples could have it very easy, but he has the right attitude and works really hard on retaining the edge he has over the others – IMO those are the players that can take it to the next level.

    @HORSEFLY NO.1: Namenyi is an interesting prospect – he has huge heart and puts his body on the line – big potential, but his development will be very dependant on good coaching.

    He was a lock at U13 level, but playing blind side flank this season – with a good coach he will develop nicely IMO as he’s willing to put in the work.

    @Horsefly – he plays for us. I coached him last year, Pedantic coaches him this year. He showed promise last year but not sure how he has prohressed this year – haven’t really had a chance to watch him.

    @ Horsy : I honestly have not heard of him. If he was at Westville he must have been there for a short time. Have you watched him play any rugby for his club.

    @ Pedantic : Although The Westville didn’t have a solid flyhalf. I think the Shange kid who played fullback and centr at times, is very talented. He’s got speed, power, a good step and good boot. Kitchin should stay at SH although Hosken is a safer option. The thing I’v noticed with Kitching is that he likes playing a quick game which works sometimes, but not all the time. Hoskens knows when to change his play and puts in clever kicks which his wings feed off. A contender for GK fullback next could also M. Couch, big, strong and big boot. Just wondering did B. Staples attend trials or is he not playing club this year ?

    @HORSEFLY NO.1: I was referring to Kitching not playing SH – for me he looks to be growing out of the position, not as snappy as he was when he was smaller – Westville don’t seem to have a steady #10 in that side, might be an idea to try him there ?

    @Pedantic:
    im only stating this because of what i saw this season in the games they played. other teams outplayed them most of the time but he along a couple others still shone every time but hey only time will tell.
    and also why do you not think he will be playing SH next year?

    @HORSEFLY NO.1: The U13, U15 & U16 trials were super competitive – a pity about the U14’s.

    Simmo has a great chance but will have big opposition from Hosken (WVL), Vorster (KC) and Dahl (HIL) – maybe even Kitching (WVL) although I’m not sure he’ll play SH in 2013. I was also impressed with the NW scrumhalf this weekend – albeit as a utility back.

    @HORSEFLY NO.1: Yes that would no doubt have been better but short of pulling each and every boy to the field by the ear not much else could have been done.

    If you invite boys to trials you assume they are up for it and if not they would do the organisers the courtesy of excusing themselves. Shame on those boys who did not turn up without excusing themselves.

    What are the ‘other reasons’ you refer to – would love to know?

    Wouldve been better if all the invited boys had trialled like I hears with the u14s having too few boys.
    Many of the DHS boys who play club didn’t go with some due to lack of commitment and others for other reasons.
    But anyways well done to those who made it!
    Think Simmo will make KZN U16 next year.

    I AGREE TOTALLY. THE BOYS GET OUT OF THEIR SCHOOL STRUCTURES AND PLAY WITH BOYS FROM OTHER SCHOOLS . THE FRIENDSHIPS MADE ON TOUR ARE LASTING AND ONE JUST NEEDS TO SEE THE BOYS WHEN THEY ARE BACK IN THE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT AND MEET UP WHEN PLAYING AGAINST EACH OTHER. MORE SCHOOLS SHOULD ENCOURAGE THE BOYS TO PLAY AS IT RAISES THE STANDARD OF PLAY AND THE BOYS GET EXPOSED TO EXCELLENT COACHING-BE IT AT CLUB OR DRSU LEVEL. SEE YOU AT THE IPT.

    @star: Agree on that – the scrumhalf and centre/wing would be in the A teams at just about any other school IMHO.

    It is truly awesome seeing the boys play club rugby as they seem to have more passion, drive and enjoyment. After watching the U15s and U13s at trials, I am truly impressed at the talent in KZN. The trials really illustrated this as the boys were not showing affiliation (except with their socks) and could be looked at in an unbiased manner. I’m looking forward to this tournament, my lenses are polished, disks ready and now looking for a good pair of takkies to get me through the week. :lol:

    I recognised a few names in u16 and u18. I think its great that the kids get to play alongside kids from other schools both at club and IPT level. Rugby aside this kind of blending is good for character development.

    Also nice to see guys that did not make KZN age-group teams for July provincial weeks now getting a chance to represent the region at club level.

    I have being saying for a while that the Westville U15 group has great depth. Nothing says this better than the fact that of the 6 Westville boys in U15 squad 4 of them are B team players or have played B team at some point.
