SA u20: Rikus Bothma called up as cover for RG Snyman

Junior Springboks make one change for Argentine tour – from SARugby.net
May 05, 2015
Vodacom Blue Bulls lock RG Snyman on Tuesday was withdrawn from the Junior Springbok touring squad to Argentina due to an ankle ligament injury.

The big lock hurt his ankle during a training session in Stellenbosch and will be out of action for between two and four weeks. Loose forward Rikus Bothma, the former SA Schools captain and skipper of last year’s DHL Western Province Under-19 team, has been named as his replacement.

Snyman will continue with his rehabilitation until Friday and will return to the camp when the squad reassembles after the tour. He will undergo a fitness test on his return.

The Junior Boks fly out to South America early on Friday morning for their two-match series against the Argentina Under-20 team. The two teams will clash on 12 and 16 May in Rosario as part of their final preparations for the upcoming World Rugby Under-20 Championship in Italy.

The young South Africans will have one more hit-out before the tour on Wednesday when they take to the field at 10h00 against the Western Province Rugby Institute at the Paul Roos Markotter Stadium in Stellenbosch.

Meanwhile, two more players have joined the national Under-20 training squad. Wing Duhan van der Merwe, who was a member of the Junior Bok squad that travelled to New Zealand last year, and his Vodacom Blue Bulls team-mate, flyhalf Thinus de Beer, were added to the squad on Monday.

The Junior Springbok squad to represent South Africa at the World Rugby Under-20 Championship in June will be announced after the touring party have returned from Argentina on 18 May.

The difference between good and great is one second of anticipation…..and the administrative ability to differentiate in a professional environment, sadly anxiety levels among administrators far out performs performance levels and self presivation is rife.

    @beet:

    Common misconception.

Marcell Coetzee didn’t go to that JWC because he was part of the Sharks Super Rugby squad. It wasn’t because he wasn’t highly rated, which he most definitely was, and if he’d been released he surely would’ve been in the team.

The same thing happened to the Stormers front-rowers (Steven Kitshoff, Scarra Ntubeni & Frans Malherbe) that year.

@Ruggersake: You can’t really change the decisions made. Actions trump words. The best thing now is to prove to selector/s they got it wrong. Not so long ago Arno Botha went to the JWC while Marcell Coetzee didn’t. As far as career is concerned, the JWC still ranks below senior level rugby on a CV.

Personally a bad decision. Maybe the brains trust need to read Legacy! We keep on repaying the green fees.

@RBugger: That is bad news about Hyron. In my opinion, 80% of quota players are there on merit, including Hyron – just hope his injury doesn’t result in a quota player now being included that is not on merit!?

@Nemo: Ek kon dit nie maak na vanoggend se wedstryd nie – hoe het hulle gevaar? Wie het goed gelyk, en wie nie so goed nie?

I think Dan Du Preez will now be played at lock in RG place. I have also just heard that Hyron Andrews has buggered up his shoulder, not sure how bad it is yet though

Ek was by vorige en vanoggend se wedstryd.
