As julle bly glo in hulle “they will live up to expectation”.

Rugbyman. Praat jy!! Vat die bottelnek elke oggend by Kloof.

Hierdie raak nou ‘n interessante gesprekkie!

Punt!

@Spilly – Selborne are the natural choice, one would say.But they still have to face QC at the Rec later in the season, so it will be interesting how things pan out.

@Rugger fan: Howzit, can’t remember the half time score but it wasn’t open gates. MHS had 6 regular players missing, including both locks. DHS were competitive in the scrums in the first 15 mins and competitive at ruck time, with a fairly big and abrasive pack. But it didn’t last long. MHS are well drilled, and have the ability to create space, backs interlinking well and offloading in the tackle, with great support play consistently. Some great tries and moments of individual brilliance. As usual Bader was great, although he doesn’t always get great ball and has to create something as he is getting shut down. No 6 had a great game and Voster was generally good at 15. Bader could look mercurial with a little more time and space and I think could also fit comfortably into a 12 role.

@4×4: Ongelukkig is daar nie meer plek by Waterkloof of Garsies nie.

So, ek betwyfel of Garsies ooit genoeg spanne teen Affies sal hê.

Djou.

Lyk my jy moet dalk meer Woodlands se bioscope besoek

@bloues: Daar is niks fout met of Affies, of PBHS, Affies Meisies, Girls High, Laerskool PTA-Oos of Loftus of Tuks se ligging nie.

@ Buffel- it all hinges on the K v Hilton game on Gillies. May the best man walk away with the spoils.
@ Beet- I presume you were referring to me re the ice pack. After that rough Kearsney player spear tackled the boy and the medical attendants advised of a trip to the hospital , to watch him on the field in those desperate dying minutes was all too much. It just shows what it means to be part of an OB day and nothing was going to prevent that. It was also special for the son of an OB to stand tall at the end of it all.

    @akw:
    @4×4:

So eenvoudig. JUST DO IT !!

Laat my dink aan daai treffer vd Hollies- “He aint heavy, his my brother—” Maar wat, alles het n einde- selfs hierdie seisoen.

We need Premier Interschools to make a national league out of interschools, traditional schools to stop playing at Kearsney festivals, Wildeklawer etc and local school leagues, they can field Cherries and others 2nd XV to local leagues. Super schools (traditional schools) that can field enough opposition for each age group should work together. Talent won’t go to these smaller schools for money if they never get to play the top traditional schools and get any TV coverage. Nico du Plessis let’s get the wheels rolling for this national league concept out of your current concept?

@CHS08: Based on Dale beating Queen’s in fashion on the Rec and then Queen’s going to East London and giving Selborne a real go before circumstances out of their control ended their challenge for a victory, even I reckoned that Selborne was in for hard time at the Graveyard, with a Dale will the more likely outcome.

@GreenBlooded: Thank you for the feedback. I imagine the ref had issued a team warning at some stage or perhaps IDed the openside flank as a repeat offender because the infringement near halfway which started out as a legit attempt to win a turnover and with nothing really on for the attacking team did look harsh. It was not the first offense of that nature though. So I have a clarification question and it’s not a hostile one either. Is the ref required to warn a team before issuing a next offense yellow card or is this a courtesy that some extend?

Another honest question and aiming for a response that can be turned into a blog here :-D

Particularly in European Club rugby, referees are very harsh on cynical infringements by defenders near their own tryline to the extend that it looks as if a player is far more likely to get binned in that situation than for the exact same offence far away from his tryline. Viewers like myself develop a belief that if this is the norm in senior pro rugby, its a taught reffing practice, which you have now cleared up that it is not. Where does that situation treatment originate from. Is it refs who feed off each other and decide on their that in the framework of the law, they need to act harsher here or do the refs jointly agree to manage games in this way? It definitely can’t be put down to coincidence.

    Dag almal

Wil net se die Tuks finaal was baie goed

Wil ons nie goeie spelers he nie

Selborne has won 28 matches drew 1 and lost 1. Rooikop is an outstanding rugby player yho! I think Tristian and Botha were brilliant yesterday! Chuffed for our East London flagship team! Well done to House on a convincing win against DHS 54-6. This was achieved with 6 players out through injury, 2 locks, 2 centers and 2 wings. House remain unbeaten for the season, only pity is that the remaining fixtures don’t include any top 20 teams. It would be nice to test the teams skills against some of those teams and potentially silence the critics of the quality of this team.

Laasjaar was Garsies Tops, hierdie jaar is hulle minder goed.

    @beet:

Ja – terms like that sound great on Boots and All but unfortunately they have no basis in law and are therefore best left out of discussions on referees by the serial referee critics. The term doesn’t exist in referee vocabulary and probably explains why the referee issued the yellow without regard for where on the field the incident took place. There is no provision in law at all for a different set of sanctions for infringements near the goal line.

Ons 0/16 span – hats off to them.

Hulle game was gister n getuigskrif daarvan.

Help my as ek verkeerd is.

    @kosie: dankie kosie…

So ons is baie trots!

What a fantastic display of rugby by EG Jansen seen today..Monument looked impressive in the first 10 minutes and scored a fantastic try..and a penalty later. Then EGJ took over and it was one way traffic.. After that Monnas were outplayed in every department of the game..the few attacks that Monnas made was stopped by brilliant defence..Monnas forwards could not dominate and get their game going but must say they also defended well. Monnas backline had some good moves but again could not find gaps due to brilliant defence by EGJ..with about 8 minutes left and the score 29-10 in favor of EG Jansen, the writing was on the wall..Monnas scored in the last few minutes..final score 29-17..Well done EG Jansen for defending your title. I must say one could see today this team has some brilliant coaches..

@CharlesZA: From what I’ve heard from a Boksburg local:

I know for sure the first round went to EG on points because Glenwood ended up doing their open house at guesthouse.

However if we have to score it on who was the more gutsy, second round to Glenwood for their two staff members going to EG to confront the headmaster. (according to the reliable Boksburg local)

I however have a Durban resident who has told me he can get a non-Boksburg resident perspective, which could influence the split decision.

@h2o: For me the Westville defence particularly on the goal-line was stellar. Not just at the end. At times in the first half as well.

Kearsney either could not or would not allowed to get going for most of the match. Not choosing to kick at goal from close range on a field at a school on old boys day that they don’t have a good track record against – eish. Good never say die attitude by the One Stripes though.

Boulle for his contribution to the scoreboard – try and assist and pen for high tackle = 15 points = MotM.

Niel vR very good goal kicking again. Mixed bag with ball in hand decisions but more positive than negative. Some good D by him as well including a fetcher like turnover.

Westville better in scrums in spite of no Stoltz. Qoma’s contribution is scrums also vital. I was hoping the ref would break up the scrum and have a good chat to both frontrows about exactly what he wanted. Lots of quick short and long arms on first contact in scrums – both ways. This aspect didn’t spoil the game though. The ref is a nice guy tho so everyone should have lots of time for him. And he didn’t show favouritism so all good.

The backchat by you know who and another – not good.

Who was dad on the far side that races around behind the wooden stands with the ice pack in his hand

@beet: This is the 1st time this year Ville have played % game very few risky runs from their own tryline. Some immense defending in the last 5 minutes on their tryline near the end…. it was also the first game this season where i have seen the ville boys high fiving….. i thought Kearsney were their own worst enemy by not backing their ability to create and then taking the gaps on 2nd and 3rd phases. Dixon, Van vuuren, no 9 and Tedder were not allowed to get behind advantage lines… for Vill think scrums were dominant…. Boulle and Wheeler were immense with 2 brillant tries…. Van rooyen dictated at 10……. saw Prinsloo and Dixon wrestling off ball ala wwf for a while and then walking from field arms around each other…. i love this game:-D :-D :-D

Wow! What a game Bishops v Sacs 1st XV….but yet again, Bishops let themselves down. After twenty minutes, they were 12-0 up and SACS were still chasing shadows,. The Bishops backline is even deadlier than last year’s one which boasted 4 WP Players, however, a bit of ill discipline changed the game when one player chirped the ref (who was at sea with his interpretation of the rules against both teams) and got sin binned for 10 minutes! That was the break SACS needed to get back into the game, they then spent the next 20 minutes within 5 m of the Bishops try line and although they could not break the excellent defence of the Platinum Blues, the defensive effort clearly took it’s toll on the Bishops team.
I fully agree with Playa that the “running rugby” ethos of Bishops, originally introduced by Bazil Bey, again cost them a result. They had 10 penalties within 20m in very kickable positions, which they as usual chose to tap and run.
These school matches are like “test matches” to the boys and massive bragging rights are at stake. Bishops should have buried the game at 12-7, when they had 5 kickable penalties in 15 minutes and did not score a single point.

Well done to SACS for digging in and their rush defence was very unsettling for the Bishops backline ( some of the SACS players were very fortunate that the interpretation of the offside rule evaded the whistle blower on a few occasions). The SACS number 7 is just brilliant and they play off him a lot. If he keeps on in this vein, he is going to be putting his hand up for a WP cap this year…quick, strong, great hands and hard!
Bishops need to take a hard look at themselves, as they had this game won if they had taken all their opportunities, but SACS won and thats all that counts really ….This was a game very reminiscent of the Bishops v Paarl Gym last year in Paarl, where they did not take 13 kicks at goal within 25m and lost by 20 points or so if I recall correctly, after dominating the first half.
I also believe that WP Referees Association must up the standard of the refs they put out for these premier league school 1st team fixtures. It does the boys little good if the decisions are so poor for both teams and often it can result in the lads taking the poor decisions out on the opposition, which is not good to see.
Anyway, Bishops…Lick your wounds and come back strong against Brackenfell next week.
I shall go and pull the wagon with the SACS boys on it…well done, a great effort, well rewarded, on the sacred Piley Rees!

Very entertaining game on Goldstones today. College raced out of the blocks to score 3 tries in the first 10 minutes – 19-0 up. KES clawed their way back into the game with some excellent ball running and interplay (and some very poor College defence it needs to be said) – to get to a 33-29 advantage. College managed to get in for a last gasp try to clinch it 34-33. Very entertaining and nail-biting stuff.

@star: Well deserved win Westville. Defence in the last 10 was immense but that’s not all that won it for them, they had already done the work to win the game by then.

Kearsney struggled to get any continuity and couldn’t finish when it mattered.

I honestly don’t think the card affected the result – KC had a warning in the 1st half for repeated infringements at the breakdown, that might be the reason for the card.

I hope this win is the catalyst for a great remainder of the season for the Westville boys … they deserve better luck than they’ve had so far this season.

Before I am totally useless, while I think Westville were the better team on the day there was a yellow card given to a Kearsney player which I thought was OTT. It was for holding on but it was not a red zone offence nor was it for a repeat offence. The officials did a fine job on the day but cards seem to be a default mechanism rather than a measure of last resort and have a huge influence on outcomes.

Awesome game of schoolboy rugby.SACS just know how to play as a team, and their defence will frustrate a lot of teams this season-it’s just top drawer.Bishops needs to review their decision making. A lot of points were left begging because they refused to take some kickable penalties.

Bishops vs SACS, i think Bishops might be to strong fro SACS, Bishops had a very strong tour in Joburg. What I have heard Bishops are looking very strong, if SACS let the game get away from them it could be a big win for the Bishops Boys. 1130 Piley Rees my prediction Bishops by 20+

@Tang: Boys high were always a scary prospect for us …. the early nineties under Jake were a glorious time for Jeppe rugby. I think the win in 94 and draw in 95 were as close as we ever got to two in row in my lifetime. So like I said it would be a historic win for Jeppe. Boys High is a school steeped in tradition I do not see them allowing a back to back to occur ……. I would think the 36 – 35 to boys high in 2013 was the record high scoring game. But my memory might be skewed but I remember the our first side losing 72 nil on a Wednesday night in 2002. That same year we lost all games but 3 one the wins was in a return fixture against KES in the last game of the season …… think a record number of colours blazers were given based on that one Kes game alone ……. maybe tomorrow will a similar type of game for boys high against an over confident Jeppe team.

@Ringo – I think Jeppe are going to win by 15 Blue Bulls ref or not.
Only Jeppe can talk themselves out of a victory on Brookes tomorrow. If Jeppe win two in a row on Brookes it is a big deal.

First match played: 1935. PBHS won (22-3).

    Total matches played: 78.

    Won by Jeppe: 25.

    Won by PBHS: 46.

    Total matches drawn: 7.

    Last drawn match: 1995. (14-14).

Total points scored by Jeppe: 696.

Total points scored by PBHS: 1440.

    Highest score for Jeppe: 29 (29-3) in 1980 and (29-11) in 1994.

Highest score for PBHS: 68 (68-0) in 1972.

Highest margin of victory for Jeppe: 26 (29-3) in 1980.

Highest margin of victory for PBHS: 68 (68-0) in 1972.

    Most points in a match: 68 (PBHS 68 – Jeppe 0) in 1972.

Last match played: 2013. Jeppe won (9-10)

Ringo – This may be hard to believe but I watched the 1980 match and the 1994 match. In 1980, Alan Wernick, playing at center carved Boys High to pieces. Jeppe also had the monster lock – Karl Gerricke. I stand under correction but I am sure in the 1994 fixture Jake White was coaching Jeppe and Paul Anthony was coaching Boys High. Although the score was 29-11, this was a great match.

    @star: Waxy’s for lunch?
Ok, If I have to . I will be in my KC regalia and support my Alma Mater.
If there is a year that we can pull it off its 2015. Westville have the men but the execution is lacking and I think a lot has to do with the constant positional changes. With that goes the confidence. They had plenty of pre- season fixtures to sort this out but well into the current campaign they are still experimenting . Game 1 proper you should have a good idea who fits where. I understand injuries etc but still keep to the core players in their preferred positions . Going to be close. Don’t give the likes of Tedder or van Vuuren space -it will cost you. van Vuuren been the poacher of note this season. Dixon, well we know what he can do.

As far as Westville is concerned,Ball needs to be closer to the pill and closer to the pack to lead from the front. I would not have a captain at full back. Schlemmer at the back with Ball at centre. That is in my HO.

@ Pedantic- when was the last time K won on Bowdens? It must be over 15 years. And K have had some good teams. I remember in 2011 watching not 2 but 3 Dups lose. It therefore says a lot when bloggers are tipping a K win ( on WOB day no less) It just shows the respect for the attitude and heart that has been displayed. Westville just need to get their confidence back( bit like the Sharks) . Hopefully the OBs will bring the best out of them.

Parktown by 20 ( just better prepared for the game)
Saint Alban’s by 10 (reality check for Bennies)
PBHS by 5 ( the blue bulls ref will help them alot but you have to go back to the early nineties for the last time Jeppe won two in row versus boys high)

@Rugger fan: In the 185 games between Dale and Selborne, Dale has won 99. That has been that way since August 2012. We win on Saturday, we join the elite group of schools who have managed 100 wins against their biggest rivals.

Star- round 2 . This weekend going to be a good one depending on what Westville side comes out on Saturday. Are there going to be positional changes? Game plan? and the list goes on . They have the personal but how will the coach use them is the big question. Kearsney playing a very good brand of Rugger and if there are mistakes they will capitalize .Good luck to both teams and I will be wearing neutral colors.

@Oakdale supporter: Agree not the comments of the average knowledgeable Gimmie . The true Gimmies never promote their teams by belittling their opponents.

Beet please give this man a Gim jersey !!

@BoishaaiPa: You are 100% correct . In the Western Cape especially we will see surprises this year ! Rondebosch , Bishops , SACS and Wynberg all have great teams and will be tough to beat . Landbou better than what people give them credit . They are due to surprise soon . Hopefully not against Boishaai! Paarl Gym a super team again and Paul Roos world champions ! I cannot remember when last the teams were so even . Also great talent in Bellville , Tygerberg , Stellenberg , Strand etc . I am sure the Blue Bull scouts are going to be active this year .

Monnas is nog steeds top 5 kandidaat volgens my.

Trosts Suid-Afrikaans!!

Grey College must be in danger of losing another one?

Think the dads must be weighing up other rugby schools as well so they end up with a regular XV like the other big SA schools.

And then they go unbeaten next year

    – Affies – Grey
    – SACS – Bishops
    – Rondebosch – Boishaai
    – Waterkloof – Menlo
    – EG – Monnas
    – Nelspruit – Garsfontein

Skole rugby op sy beste
