Glenwood and Maritzurg College played in what might yet prove to be the most important inter-schools fixture as far as determining who the best high school 1st XV in KZN is this season. It was an unusual game in a sense. There were a lot of mistakes made by both teams and even the experienced referee got a few things wrong but all this did not reduce the action-packed excitement and intensity of the match, as both teams gave it there all for 70-minutes. The home team Glenwood gained a handy 17-0 early lead which threw College off their stride for a while but the visitors dug deep, showing tremendous heart and as is so often the case when two good teams meet, the game is never over until the final whistle. College fought back to within 6-points with just a few minutes left on the clock, before Glenwood sealed a deserved 27-14 victory by scoring a late try from a turnover.…

Grey PE, the school that came from 26-0 down to beat Paul Roos, the current no.2 ranked team in SA, by a single point in one of the most memorable games of the season, looked all set to claim a national top 5 position back in April. But what happened to them?…
Battleground Pretoria continues this weekend with not one but two matches. DSTV 319 will broadcast the Garsfontein – Menlopark game at 13h25. This is a good oppotunity for SBR follows to have a look at Garsies two huge under-19 forwards Le Roux Roets and Ruan Ackerman (son of Bok Johan Ackerman), as well as flashy scrumhalf Papier and top rated centre Franco Naude.…
KZN could be Grogper Cup Champions for 2014 by Saturday evening but first Westville has to not lose to KES. A draw or win for Westville on their Bowden’s home field will hand KZN an unassailable lead in the KwaZulu-Natal versus Gauteng English Medium Schools competition. …
With the exception of unfortunate first choice fullback Henry Immelman, who picked up a nasty looking injury against Affies a couple of weeks ago, Grey College will have a full strength team to take on Boishaai in Paarl on Saturday. The game will be televised on SuperSport 1 at 14h00. …
This game will be broadcast live on DSTV channel 319 at 14h50.

Glenwood vs Maritzburg College. It’s a potential KZN number 1 decider for 2014. Glenwood hosts College on Dixon’s where visiting KZN 1st XV’s have found wins extremely hard to come by in recent years. On top of this College has not beaten Glenwood home or away since 2010.
Both schools have strong teams and are enjoying very good seasons to date.
“Glenwound vs Maritzburg Crutches”
The build up to the match has been noted for absent players, out injured players and injury clouds hanging over others. …
Just some of my opinions on the pack and the backs:…
Some observers called the clash between neighbouring Waterkloof and Garsfontein the battle for Pretoria. It is a bit premature though, as both schools still needs to face up to stiff opposition in matches to come, but such was the interest in the match – as the thousands of spectators in attendance will testify. But a battle nevertheless, as both schools defeated a number of rivals all over the country.…

Four tries either side of halftime in a game that Paarl Gim dominated up front and finished through their backs, saw previously unbeaten Tygerberg lose their unbeaten tag in unceremonious fashion. The final score was an massive 48-0 to Gimmies. That means Grey College is the only major unbeaten team left in South Africa in 2014!…
Dale and Queen’s met at the graveyard in King on Saturday in the first of their two annual derbies. Both schools had come off good wins in previous games but Queen’s had certainly made the bigger impression by beating a good Grey High. It was however Dale who had shown the better and more consistent form this season and were therefore labelled as favourites.…
A large crowd gathered on Goldstones, the home of Maritzburg College on a pleasant afternoon to see Sleepy Hollow’s finest take on Kearsney for the 68th time since 1943. The home team were outstanding. They played with passion and skills and must certainly have reminded many of the Red , Black, White old faithful of great College teams of the past. In the end they notched up a convincing 29-17 win, their 57th victory over Kearsney.…
