An exciting long weekend ahead.

Glenwood has increased  it’s rugby depth for the 2014 season by acquired the services of three Eldoraigne boys, two of whom represented the Glenwood 2nd XV against Westville over the weekend and sat on the bench for the 1st XV game.…

Flyhalf and captain Tristan Tedder scored all 19 points via a try, a conversion and four penalties as hosts Kearsney were made to work extra hard for their 19-11 win against Northwood.…

Glenwood ran in five tries in a resounding 32-15 win on Westville soil. The match played on a very hot March afternoon did seem to slow the tempo of Glenwood’s attack a bit but not as much as it did Westville’s defence who were slow to react to threats and made recurring errors.…

This 2014 KZN Tier-1 under 16 season is about to kick-off. The age-group’s teams will have to work to match the  excitement of last year’s very competitive under-16 group that produced some unpredictable results and proved to be a great advert for the healthy state of KZN school rugby. …

Port Natal has won the right to play against the Glenwood and Hilton 1st XV’s this season.

The White Knights traveled to George Campbell’s beautiful grounds at North Beach in Durban on Saturday, 08 March and came away with a hard fought 18-13 win after 70-minutes filled with memorable moments. For either team the victory alone in what is usually a tough inter-schools fixture to win would have been cause for celebration. There was however more to the result. Due to the two schools having a twinning arrangement in place for fixtures against both Glenwood and Hilton, it means that Port Natal now gets the first team games while George Campbell will take on the second teams at the same venue on the same day.…

It may not have started out that way in 1964 but Glenwood and Westville are now the two most power rugby schools in Durban, making their derby on Saturday 15 March, the biggest match on the city’s school rugby calendar.  Let’s just say: HUGE game ahead!…

If there were any doubts about Hilton College being able to maintain the same standard of rugby perseverance that was experienced under their former professional head coach Brad Macloed-Henderson, these must now surely be cast aside by reports that under new teacher-coach AC Blume, 1st XV hopefuls are being put through their paces sometimes twice a day in preparation for the private school’s  season of 13 games.…

Kearsney returned home from their short annual tour of Northern Natal with two confidence boosting wins under the belt. The results in themselves against Vryheid High (57-0) and Pionier (35-10) are probably not as significant as what the coaches and players achieved in terms of building team spirit, developing cohesion, gaining match fitness and working on game plans in live match conditions.

Prior to the tour, Kearsney started with an encouraging 29-3 win against the hosts at the Voortrekker Night Series.…

Maritzburg College and Westville will be in action at the same venue for the third weekend running when both schools participate in the WKS RUGBY HOCKEY NETBALL FESTIVAL at Wartburg, 33km outside Pietermaritzburg.

The two KZN powerhouse schools each played a match against different opponents at the KFC Voortrekker Night Series before they met on Friday, 28 February in possibly the most physical encounter of the local preseason to date.…

Maritzburg College takes on Westville at 19h30 on Friday, 28 February in the KFC Voortrekker Night Series. This is a 25-minute per half preseason game. Both coaches are still experimenting and missing a few key players due to summer sports commitments.…

Kearsney’s rugby season begins with a short warm-up game against the hosts at the KFC Voortrekker Night Series on Friday 28 February. Thereafter they depart for their annual Northern Natal tour where they have lined up fixtures against Vryheid on Monday 03 March and Pionier on Wednesday 05 March. That makes it three reasonably demanding early matches all within the space of five days.…

The Glenwood Invitational XV containing a nearly full strength Glenwood line-up had to dig deep to overcome a spirited 50-minute challenge from DHS before they run out 10-3 winners and claimed the Geldenhuys Broers Bedryf Night Series title for 2014. (Click here for match photos -> Cyndi@rugby)…

A postponed water polo fixture isn’t usually cause for celebration, at least not a Maritzburg College but in this case, the delay has provided Ryan Strudwick with a unique opportunity to field a fairly strong pre-season line-up for the school’s first run out of the year at the KFC Voortrekker Night Series.…

Westville plays the first of four preseason fixtures against host’s Voortrekker at the KFC Night Series tonight. Kick-off is at 19h30. They will follow this up with matches against Maritzburg College (Vories N/S on Friday 28 February), KZN Development and Clifton ( Wartburg Festival on 08 March).…

At the end of February, Garth Giles (67) who was recently described as a coaching pillar in KwaZulu-Natal, will part ways with Natal rugby after decades of service as a player and employee of the rugby union. As far as schoolboy rugby in the province is concerned, Garth will also relinquish his responsibilities as the KZN under-18 Convenor of Selectors and Executive Committee member.…
