Free State was crowned as national provincial under-18 7s champions for 2012 on Friday after they defeated the Valke 40-33 in the final of the @lantic tournament. KwaZulu-Natal finished in fourth place.
KZN came agonisingly close to booking a place in the final, when they drew 21-21 with the Valke, only to be denied by the rules which saw the Valke advance as a result of having scored the first try of the game. In the 3rd/4th place playoff, KZN built a healthy lead before going down to the strong finishing WP team.
Overall KZN played 6, won 2, drew 2, lost 2
