Glenwood has added the last piece to the puzzle in their efforts to replace former Head Coach and Director of Rugby Sean Erasmus (now at Paarl Boys High). Last year experienced assistant coach Rudi Dames was promoted to head coach and late last week the KZN school issued a press release confirming that former pro rugby player Shawn van Rensburg had taken over the reigns as Director of Rugby. Van Rensburg had been the Head of Rugby and Sports Coordinator at Voortrekker High School (Pietermaritzburg) from 2011 – 2013. Although he has a useful coaching CV including being the current UKZN Impi Varsity Cup Shield Head Coach, in terms of schoolboy rugby he is still relatively inexperienced.

Be interesting to see whether Glenwood still have their influence over the KZN schools selections this season with the departure of Sean E.
It was getting a little obvious where Glenwood would be the 2nd or 3rd ranked school in the province yet their players were always favored for the KZN schools selections. Will be interesting to see if anything has really changed behind the scenes.
@star: Interesting comment. I’m not sure if there is something between the lines to read there. Perhaps to do with an aspect of his coaching style which was not favoured by all parents during his time at Westville.
So long as adults( and their egos) understand the true priorities then no problem. This unfortunately has not always been the case.
@star: Mike is not like that, he is just taking the best option for his career at this time. School coaches are paid better than club, so it might have been a financial thing. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind putting one over Westville, but it will be bitter sweet as he is a passionate WOB. Just like Andrew ‘Horse’ Stewart if Westville beat DHS at waterpolo….bitter sweet but adult in response..
I am not sure what terms Vowles left Westville but I hope there are no “points” to prove. I think all the” adults” should take a deep breath and step back and let the boys enjoy the day which is just around the corner.
And a Director of sport as well?
Great addition, well done Shawn and Glenwood. A very good brains trust in place now to take the school forward for the next decade. Good luck to the machine for 2014!
Interesting structure Glenwood now has with Mike Vowles also in the mix as High Performance Director. Hope for Glenwoods sake it is not a case of too many chiefs and not enough Indians.
