GC will struggle against GW this time around.I will put it on record that it will be a 40 point margin, if not bigger. There are 3 sides this year that should be the ones to beat. Glenwwood,College and Westville with College being the stand out team. Of the rest Kearsney and Michaelhouse are pretty evenly matched ,These 5 schools will supply the majority of the Craven and Academy week teams and will go as far as saying that we will surprise the other provinces in the process.

@burra I have no issues with GC. My missus knows the wife of the acting head there, I have met him a few times, genuine, solid oke. I am sure he is not going to allow any underhand nonsense.

@Gungets Tuft: We go by the rules, if the boy is over 19 then he doesn’t play.

@burra: As long as it is not the same U19’s as last year (actually U20 this year).

Didn’t have an issue last year, no issue this year – as long as the HMA is respected – they have not arrived this year, haven’t repeated etc.

@Gungets Tuft: we will have u19 players fortunately. I think about 3 of them. Can’t really put that against us

@burra: If I remember you had about 5 U19’s last year – kinda hope that they are not in the line-up again this year.

@burra: As I said good luck to Campbell, but honestly if Glenwood clicks against Campbell, I see only one winner. Stranger things have happened before, Westville losing to a Tier 2 school and KES losing to Trinityhouse….

@Grasshopper: Yes in recent years we have had numerous u19 players. You are right if it were to be u18 we would rather battle but hey it isn’t and that what makes us competitive at times.(Truth be told)

Glenwood will be very strong well balanced and experienced in 2014 no doubt about that but guess what so is Campbell.

@burra: Well done to George Campbell on the win this year, everything must have clicked that night, the beauty of the game is upsets happen. It was not Campbell’s first one, that was in 1971! However, 99% of the time Campbell will battle to beat Glenwood just because of sheer numbers and quality. Also Campbell usually has numerous Under 19 players that make them competitive. I think if school rugby was made U18 only Campbell would battle. However, it’s good to see them competitive however in 2014 it’s going to be very tough against a very balanced and experienced Glenwood side….

@Greenwood: The players that played that game that are still playing in 2014 are building up from that game and are hungry for more upset. That just makes our jobs a lot easier. The Porties Night Series is just around the corner now, can’t wait for it

Burra – we know you have good players – as far as our defeat this year goes -I recently Spoke to someone who saw that game – he said Glenwood didn’t play badly that day but Campbell were awesome and on the day they would have given other teams of Glenwoods’ caliber a good run

Look forward to Porties Night series end of Jan where we will take on our offsprings again – unfortunately the series ends before 31 February though……

@ Greenwood- I hope your family of nations enjoys the spectacle as whether we like it or not there will be tension. We must all( teachers, parents ,pupils )ensure it is channelled the right way and that the contest is a proper celebration of SBR. I personally think that GW seem to have a very balanced side for next and will be hard to beat( even on Bowdens).

@Greenwood: Agree 100% on the toning down. I hope the build up to the game early next year is done in a sporting way with great respect for each other by both schools and sets of supporters. You are also spot on with the home and away fixtures each year. It would be good to see. I know huge emphasis is always placed on the 1st team result but the best thing for me is to see about 50 teams of rugby players taking part in games from early morning until late afternoon and enjoying it – win or lose.
    Roll on March 15.

Star – impressive stats those – looking forward to next year , no doubt
Westville & Glenwood are potentially tops dogs for Durban Metro and possibly Kzn next year ??
Also , on a personal note it’s great to see a toning down on the agro on this blog between fellow bloggers from both Schools – lets keep it that way
Excitement already building for March 15 Next year – We must somehow push for Home & away games each year – Gwd used to play School twice a year but that’s fallen away 8-O

@ Gungets- Good point. I think there were 3 .
Ellse- grade 9 or 10 ( Started DHS)
    Heystack- Grade 10( Kearsney)
    Lubbe- Grade 11 ( Gelofte)
Lubbe ended up playing 2nd team and Heystack started in the 2nds so not much of an issue.

Using the green machine as a point of reference, Westville in their 2013 season beat GW’s all time highest margin victories against 3 main competitors ( DHS, MC and Northlands)
Against DHS GW 32 Westville 39
    MC GW 37 Westville 40
    NW GW 35 Westville 45
They also almost beat GW’s George Campbell record of 71 as well. This team at U14 were pretty poor and yet were able to produce these great results later on. The Grade 12s next year were unstoppable as U14s and continued through to U16. It will be interesting to see how that translates at IST team level.

Thanks Beet, will add win % per decade as this will show the true picture, whipped first 30 years and then drastic improvement. I’ll also add results vs non KZN opposition in the new year. Bloggers let me know if you would like any specific results…
