@Djou (Comment #145)
Garsfontein, indeed has some quality players and they are currently flying under the radar and I say again, underestimate them at your own peril!
@Snelvuur (Comment #138)
Daar is darem n game voor Affies.
@Kaya 85 (Comment #142)
Riley is part of SA u.20 team!
About the “Prop”, he is from Pretoria, was recruited by Grey, and came back to Pretoria in grade 10.
Both the Garsies wing and no.15 played GK for the Bulls last year.
@Kaya 85 (Comment #143)
Yuvrah was at Garsies last year yes arrived at the start of last year already. And then yes proppies(luan) is the one who came from GC last year was under 17 last year when he came.
On another note…the Garsies leftwing Yuvraj George I think his name is…he was the Bulls GK wing last year…totally shredded defenses yikes…was he at Garsies last year? …and another Bere question
@Grizzly
@Djou and the rest of u guys…is ‘Proppie’ the same Luan (surname?) who arrived at Garsies last year from GC?…
I can’t keep track, but there are some very lekker Ironbone Props around, including Paarl’s Jooste ,die einste Proppie and my favourite-favourite frontrow Mr Meneer Sir Pratt of Oakdale wie trekkers kan skrum en/of ry en/of regmaak.
What happened to one of the best WP schools loosies…. Mr Riley Norton? Didn’t see his name pop up but haven’t really paid attention to the Varsity Cup players besides Alzeadon Felix at UJ and Chandler Green at Varsity College (at 15) …
@Snelvuur (Comment #128)
Yes I agree, which is why I didn’t mention Kent or Wynberg 7 (think his name is Karuhumbu?) as loosies. Think they’ll fall under locks for WP.
@Snelvuur (Comment #138)
@Kantman (Comment #125)
Agree. Not sure whether kicking for 3 was the right call though in that wind. Also there could have been a number of penalties in the last minute (not rolling away, playing the scrum half, coming in from the side), but most refs struggle to make a game changing decision then, and even more so if you are local.
@OomPB (Comment #137)
@JongMatie (Comment #129)
Ek hou van jou positiwiteit. Boishaai gaan nie weer so n afdag he nie. PRG moet eers verby Affies kom volgende.
@JongMatie (Comment #129)
Is JURENZO al reg?
@Snelvuur (Comment #134)
Sorry boss my bad..
@Smallies (Comment #131)
As you were.
Is daar nogsteeds bekerrugby in die Noordvaal
@Smallies (Comment #131)
Ai, ja, speel al amper bok.
@JongMatie (Comment #129)
Is Jorenzo al reg?
@Buthelezi2 (Comment #126)
Yep. At PRG there’s also still Kent at 7, who played Academy Week last year and GK the week before. Also Christian le Roux (who hasn’t played so far this year), but who was the outstanding loose forward at GK last year. I have a suspicion that they’ll try to move one or two of the bigger loose forwards to lock for CW to fit more loose forwards into the team.
MENLO/ KLOOF FINAL
@Snelvuur (Comment #105)
Wesi u19 this year so won’t be there. Milnerton 6, Neil, Kemp and Potgieter are the obvious picks for the 4 WP A team loose forwards. For the XV team there’s no shortage of competition either. Boishaai captain is a great fetcher, Gim 7 very athletic, entire SACS loose trio were excellent at Noord Suid. WP could field a 3rd side at Craven Week and still be competitive.
@Trots HJS (Tandem) (Comment #124)
@Kantman (Comment #122)
@Kantman (Comment #122)
@Trots HJS (Tandem) (Comment #91)
Jeppe were fatally overconfident, arrogant…? Even after conceding 3 early tries, 19 – 0 down…their backline crafts a very good try but the wing’s ostentatious swan dive in front of the spectators tells you his tries are the only ones that matter?… their second try similar…then having taken 70 points, they get a consolation try – and well done for persevering lads – but the player holds the ball, goading the opposition for moments before dotting down….what? Rubbing their noses in it ..? I guess they feel they can score 4 tries against anybody. Let the negative 70 sink in.
Grey High defended aggressively and competently against Paul Roos, giving nothing away but the hosts were ruthlessly effective, hard-nosed and relentless…every try hard earned, the mud was an equalizer, that win was very well done.
@Roger (Comment #118)
Boys High made a lot of unforced errors too, their 9, 10 and 12 need to work a lot on their passing but if they do better there this team could be good…KES’ first 20 mins were impressive, the lads tried very hard to get that Noord Suid trauma behind them…but with more injuries piling up, it’s going to be a difficult Easter.
@Tang (Comment #116)
Rondebosch and Northwood at the festival – with Affies, Helpmekaar, Nordheuwel, Westville, DHS and return fixtures vs PBHS and Jeppe still to come – tougher and tougher – hopefully they start building some confidence and their injured players return! Again though, was a great result for Boys High. To come from behind and win it at KES is not easy. Got some big, powerful runners in their pack too! I think that is their first victory in Houghton since 2012.
@Tang (Comment #116)
Congrats PBHS, I was toggling between games and the celebrations at the end from the Candies was like they had won the World Cup! PBHS back? My Glenwood side jsut didn’t spark, I think undercooked. They surely should improve in the season and beat College in the return. We have a tough one vs Monnas, Milnerton (unknown force) and Dale.
@Roger (Comment #56)
That was a physical, bruising encounter! I’m pleased for Boys High. You are spot on. KES can’t keep blowing first half leads at home. It should be pointed out that this is the first year in many that KES have played such a tough set of fixtures before the Easter festival. To play Jeppe, Gim, Sacs and PBHS in a row is not easy. Two tough fixtures lie ahead in the next few days.
@Buthelezi2 (Comment #114)
Yea mate luckily opinions are like arseholes ne…every one’s got one ,in mine he was streets ahead of every single WP loosie lastyear …and we all know the value of a saru selection…its basically worthless….
@Smallies (Comment #103)
Well the 4 WP A-Side loosies all played SA Schools. Along with 2 loosies from the XV side. You can’t pick everyone
@OudAffie (Comment #104)
Ek is eintlik n PRG ondersteuner.
@Smallies (Comment #109)
Potgieter.
@AbsolutMenlo (Comment #74)
Baie geluk.
@OUD ANKER (Comment #101)
@Snelvuur (Comment #105)
@Snelvuur (Comment #105)
Wesi u19 I think. #6/8 from Milnerton played last year allready and should play again. Some youngsters putting their hands up. Tough to choose.
@OudAffie (Comment #104)
@OudAffie (Comment #104)
😂 daai is Gim ondersteuners se coping mechanism – gaan ‘n vriend daar nou kontak.
@Smallies (Comment #103)
The problem is that there is so much talent in WP. Neill and Wesi are probably nailed on for 6 and 7 in the WP A team. Then it’s probably a shootout between Potgieter and Kemp for 8, with the other one probably on the bench.
@OomPB (Comment #96)
@Buthelezi2 (Comment #102)
He should’ve been in the WP A side ,was spykered big time last year…you can agree or disagree but that is a fact he was the premier loosie in WP last year and proparbly best in the country…
@Smallies (Comment #97)
6 WP loosies made SA Schools last year…
@Grizzly (Comment #73)
Ek stem saam jou, Garsies vlieg so effens onder die radar en is hulle beter as wat mense dink….
@Strepie (Comment #86)
@OomPB (Comment #96)
@Meesh N (Comment #84)
Well done to the Candies! Its been a while since PBHS could put one over KES, especially in Houton.
@Bungee (Comment #94)
@OUD ANKER (Comment #92)
Pieter Rossouw uitoorle met 10 man rugby?
@Bungee (Comment #93)
Hy sal hopelik leer hieruit.
@OomPB (Comment #88)
@OomPB (Comment #88)
@OomPB (Comment #88)
@Kantman (Comment #89)
Stem 100% saam.
@Strepie (Comment #86)
@Trots HJS (Tandem) (Comment #87)
Vat jou punte as jy kan, of druk drieë wyd. As jy beserings by agterste drie het is dit egter nie so maklik nie.
Ek weet nie of daar n beter 8 as Kemp in SA skole rugby is nie. Affies was Baie gelukkig teen Gim.
@Snelvuur (Comment #85)
@Trots HJS (Tandem) (Comment #82)
Ek verstaan nie heeltemal jou vraag nie? Ek komplimenteer juis HJS se voorspelers se poging teen Affies?
@Kaya 85 (Comment #13)
had a feeling Oakdale would upset HJS & that Northwood wouldn’t walk over Ville
@Trots HJS (Tandem) (Comment #82)
OLD SCHOOL
Grey kry Gim, Helpmekaar, Garsfontein, HJS, Affies teen 17 Mei.
Rondebosch storm voort – Milnerton groei mooi.
Geluk Stellenberg – mooi wen teen Wynberg!
@OudAffie (Comment #77)
Ongelooflike stel uitslae in die Bolandse modder! Baie geluk! Dis nogsteeds my droom dat Affies en PRG weer ‘n interskole op die been kry – van die min skole wat toe to toe met diepte kan gaan.
@Grizzly (Comment #73)
Dit was HJS se suksesresep teen Affies.

@4×4 (Comment #68)
My opinie – die 2 Affie senters het baie goed gelyk, dalk beter as die eerste keuse senters.
@OUD ANKER (Comment #67)
Agree, Affies was all over Gim. Gim was the better team for 20 minutes in the 2nd half, but Affies again took control in the latter part of the 2nd half.
Geluk beide spanne!!
Well done Oakdale!!
Monnas is back.
Gars the team to stop in NoordVaal.
Geluk PBH!!
Baie geluk Affies! Ek hou daar by. Oakdale dark horse vir top 5,hou daar by. Daai close game weg was massive… Al was dit n verloor. Dink die Bere is n op die dag span…. Monnas in n verwoestende bui. Net n brawe man voorspel uitslae die jaar….
Goeie naand mnre ,ek het gese dat niemand n maklike game teen Oakdale gaan he nie ,Affies het guts gewys soos min na daai belaglikke scrum penalty,Grey is Grey almal wen teen hulle tot hulle nie meer wen nie,Jeppe ,my new second team dink ek het Monnas koors gehad…en ek het twee dae lank vis gevang, it was epic….
@4×4 (Comment #68)
@Trots HJS (Tandem) (Comment #69)
Ek het nou die game gekyk. Daai surfer stut van Oakdale was uitstekend. HJS het net n afdag gehad.
@OomPB (Comment #63) Oakdale het goed gespeel , was baie fisies.
@Djou (Comment #64)
@JeppeZimD (Comment #58)
Can’t agree with you that Gym was the better team. This game was an epic match and the final score reflects who the best team was….
@Trots HJS (Tandem) (Comment #48)
🥶🥶😭😭
@Wonder (Comment #62)
@Kaya 85 (Comment #54)
No, did not see that pic. Seems as it is e(pic). 😃
Affies is on the up. On the other hand, the one thing Affies always had was depth. No school in perhaps the world has Affies’ depth.
@Trots HJS (Tandem) (Comment #48)
Hoe het Boishaai dit reg gekry?
Fantasties Garsies, great wen. Helpmekaar is nie jou maat op hul tuisveld, great wen. Lekker wedstryd om te kyk.
@Roger (Comment #56)
Epic win for Boys High.
I recall watching Boys High win at Houghton in 1996, 18-17. Manfred Kali, K.E.S pivot at the time, in tears after the loss, John Smit causing mayhem in the scrums…
Apparently Dale won 54-5
@Trots HJS (Tandem) (Comment #48)
Wow. I do not see any of the top 5 teams ending up unbeaten this year.
@Buthelezi2 (Comment #35)
Spot on, bruv! Also, weather conditions not the greatest for running rugby. Even though its a draw, Gym were the better team
@Kaya 85 (Comment #55)
Everything happened, that wasnt in the Jeppe script…. lol. 70-24 to Monnas
CONGRATS BOYS HIGH
@JeppeZimD (Comment #49)
What.? Just.? Happened.?
@Djou (Comment #46)
I must say, I’m pleasantly surprised, Affies brought menace, purpose, and control. Did you see the one pic on social media with all the Affies lads on the plane…they went down there and made a big statement.
@BoishaaiPa (Comment #40)
You also called it…Can’t help loving those Oakdale titans!!
@Buthelezi2 (Comment #35)
You called it.
Selborne 40-13 Pearson
Queens 51-12 Stirling
Dale 26-5 Ooskus

Wanneer kom jou eerste rankings uit?
JEPPE VS MONNAS
Oakdale 28-Boishaai 26
AFFIES TEEN PAARL GIM
15A: Affies wen 25-24
16A: Gim wen 28-17
1ste span: Gelykop 16-16
Mooi Affies!
Nooit tou opgegooi nie.
16-16.
Sorry Kaya, few would have predicted a draw.
But for 20 minuyes in 2nd half, Affies dominated with their pack.
Heartbreak for the Glenwood u15A, scored with 2 mins to go to lead 21-18, kick-off Glenwood knock-on and College collect, swarm the line and score, win 25-21. Small errors….College very lucky
@Buthelezi2 (Comment #43)
This is the beauty of rugby. Outcomes unpredictable.
@Trots HJS (Tandem) (Comment #42)
Disagree. Affies will win
@Buthelezi2 (Comment #35)
Gim will win comfortably.
@BoishaaiPa (Comment #40)
Oakdale for sure formidable, especially at home. Will be a big game. Lets see.
Oakdale will always be favorites in Riversdale.If Boishaai can come away with a win it will be an upset on my books. Oakdale is a tough cookie at home!
@Roger (Comment #27)
That is proper good derby stats…Runaway one sided results is not good for any of the 2 schools.
@Snelvuur (Comment #34)
🤣💪🏻
I would love NW to continue their unbeaten run to date, but WV I think may hold just too much firepower. They will also be out for revenge after NW beat them on their Old Boys Day last year I’m dramatic fashion. Will be interesting to watch…
@Buthelezi2 (Comment #35)
I wonder what more it takes to win games lol. The game also does happen to be in Paarl
Think Affies are being underestimated here. I have no doubt they’ll win if they play their best game. BMT along with fitness are the only areas where Gim are superior, although sometimes that’s more than enough to win it? Time will tell
@Bungee (Comment #33)
Still the same team that played N/S.
@Snelvuur (Comment #31)
Any updates regarding injuries?
@boerboel (Comment #30)
Oakdale’s massive pack needs to show that they can play two halves of rugby. I’ve seen them drop off in the second half a few times – notably against Grey and Rondebosch. Especially visible in the scrums; and HJS has a powerful scrum this year (ask Affies).
@House Rugga (Comment #29)
Paul Roos by 33? Are you JongMatie in disguise?
@House Rugga (Comment #29)
hjs misssing 4 players due to injury- i think Oakdale

@Kaya 85 (Comment #12)
I agree with most of your predictions Sir@Kaya 85, but I think Affies and Helpmekaar will get closer…and I’m not so sure KES is that poor…50/50 for me on that one but I’ll go for the Candies as well but just…
KES VS BOYS HIGH
@wanza_15 (Comment #24)
Wanza brother we really need this one over the boys from Houghton, 2023 was probably our best chance in a while some said we’d do the double & we squandered it, hopefully this year we can get it done.
We seem to play much better against them at KES due to the narrower REDS field that allow our forwards to get over them in comparison to a big, wide Brooks field where they can run the ball a lot. Wish I had a free one but I’m playing club rugby, I’m the only BH old boy at Wanderers so I hope I’ll get to rub it in a few guys’ faces!
Backing you guys to do the job against Monnas, though I feel we shouldn’t write them off as they aren’t a bad side either.
Affies will square up at the front with Paarl Gim but that Gim backline is next level – that may very well be the difference.
Agree with most the predictions
I think Affies are good for 7 more points maybe, and my bias hopes we can put a bit more daylight on Monnas..
Pretoria Boys though, you feel this is it, after 11+ years to get it right vs KES, if Jeppe weren’t playing I probably would have gone to that one, but I have a free Saturday I will be in Kensington definitely!!
@Kantman (Comment #22)
All part of the fun having different perspectives. But Kaya’s predictions are always great to get the conversation going
@Gold (Comment #18)
Kaya the Brave calling it like he sees it!
Agree Affies vs Gim will be nailbiter.
Think SACS will take it though
@buitestaander (Comment #20)
Not from what I heard – Bishops maybe
Any news on the Paul Roos team againt Grey High? Injured players back?
@Henkies (Comment #11)
I think Ville will beat Northwood, just my feeling. Glenwood are a dark horse this year, if only they were playing Hilton and DHS to really see the right pecking order. They are coming in under the radar and a little under-cooked for KERF, hopefully not too undercooked in Maritzburra….
@Kaya 85 (Comment #13)
Mostly in alignment, but:
– Affies will be closer to Gim
– Landbou will beat sacs
(I think)
@Kaya 85 (Comment #16)
there’s a particular prediction you made that i sure do hope comes to life! but i will say i see Pearson beating the Selbornians, Northwood won’t win so comfortably against Ville & Oakdale won’t be a walkover at home!
Selborne 29 – 12 Pearson
Hugenote 20 – 29 Heidelberg Volkies (fast & furious)
Jansen 18 – 30 Kempies (EG still rebuilding)
Helpmekaar 22 – 44 Garsfontein (tough but fair)
Northwood 30 – 16 Westville (NW maturing)
Welkom Gim 35 – 13 Voortrekker (slow start but fast finish)
Hentie Cilliers 16 – 20 Witteberg (Oom Hentie onder die blesberg)
Charlie Hofmeyr 19 – 18 Strand (Nice outing for Charlies)
Cape and Grey predictions
Outeniqua 14 – 40 Grey (visitors win Loerie derby)
Oakdale 19 – 45 HJS Paarl (Pratt v Jooste equal but Boishaai win)
Wynberg 16 – 19 Stellenberg (Jade Brigade not in Berg’s shade)
Paul Roos 39 – 15 Grey High (too classy)
SACS 29 – 18 Boland Landbou (shouldn’t be surprised)
Paarl Gim 33 – Affies 9 (Meneer Muller en kie)
Milnerton 10 – 42 Rondebosch (outlast, outclass)
Predictions
Menlopark 18 – 30 Waterkloof (broedertwis)
KES 20 – 28 Pretoria BH (Reds recovery relapse)
Jeppe 32 – 30 Monument (sparks on the parks)
Anker 24 – Pietersburg 21 (home ground advantage…)
Oos-Moot 30 – 26 Eldoraigne (tough Moot ouens over townhouse toms)
HTS Middelburg 19 – 26 Transvalia (Valia is rowwer)
@Grasshopper (Comment #10)
Great summary Grassy. If this weekend’s game gets anywhere close to that 2013 battle it will be a great afternoon.
Westville v Northwood is also going to be huge- perhaps it will come down to home ground advantage giving Northwood the edge. Both packs look very capable so it could be which set of backs has more flair or which kicker has a good day. Great situation when it’s too close too call.
GLENWOOD VS COLLEGE
Played: 180
Won: 49 (27.22%)
Lost: 112 (62.22%)
Draws: 15 (8.33%)
Points Against: 2,976 (Avg 17)
Points For: 1,765 (Avg 10)
Biggest Win: 57-12 (2015)
Biggest Loss: 13-61 (1995) – I was there and it was horrific
Longest Winning streak: 15 games (2011 to 2019)
Longest Losing streak: 30 games (1947 to 1963) – my uncle was in that 1963 Glenwood side.
One of the best games of schoolboy rugby was played on College’s 150th Reunion Day in 2013 at College, Glenwood ruining the party, winning 44-40, with the score changing every few mins. College are the ‘north-star’ or pinnacle of KZN rugby, always respected and admired. Their massive BE does help with the extreme depth they have…
@Pine (Comment #8)
As I understand this Saturday’s games are postponed to the 26th, due to wet pitch conditions. The semi’s will however replace the finals, with the two semi-winners sharing the spoils.
NWU PRESTIGE PLAY OFFS
Glenwood vs College must be one of the derbies with the most games played before, must be 160+ by now, will dig the archives! Been green since 2000, but red, black & white past couple of years. Let’s just say it’s a derby that doesn’t get enough recognition or exposure…
@Rainman (Comment #3)
It’s going to be close …
@HSBR (Comment #4)
Menlo by 1
Zwartkop vs Marais Viljoen is going to be very interesting, Zwartkop still undefeated and seems to have a very good side.
First NoordVaal game Gars vs Helpies … Gars the big favorites and for the competition.
Oakdale vs HJS … my support is for the home team!
Is ons NOGSTEEDS besig met BEKERrugby..
Excited to see WK vs Menlo. Feel Menlo haven’t truly been tested thus far with the quality of opponents vs what WK have had to deal with and seems like Menlo has a good team after a few years of struggles
Big fixtures possibly ending within 10-7 points of each other:
Selborne vs Pearson
KES vs PBHS
WK vs Menlo
NW vs Westville (huge)
Helpies vs Garsies
WBHS vs Stellies
A few other big ones, but I don’t think they’ll be decided within 10 points.
I finally have a free Saturday…. so instead of tackling a long list of stuff i have to do around the house, im going to take a drive to PMB to watch College v Glenwood!
Wynberg vs Stellenberg
