Riley is part of SA u.20 team!
About the “Prop”, he is from Pretoria, was recruited by Grey, and came back to Pretoria in grade 10.
Both the Garsies wing and no.15 played GK for the Bulls last year.

On another note…the Garsies leftwing Yuvraj George I think his name is…he was the Bulls GK wing last year…totally shredded defenses yikes…was he at Garsies last year? …and another Bere question
    @Grizzly
@Djou and the rest of u guys…is ‘Proppie’ the same Luan (surname?) who arrived at Garsies last year from GC?…
I can’t keep track, but there are some very lekker Ironbone Props around, including Paarl’s Jooste ,die einste Proppie and my favourite-favourite frontrow Mr Meneer Sir Pratt of Oakdale wie trekkers kan skrum en/of ry en/of regmaak.

What happened to one of the best WP schools loosies…. Mr Riley Norton? Didn’t see his name pop up but haven’t really paid attention to the Varsity Cup players besides Alzeadon Felix at UJ and Chandler Green at Varsity College (at 15) …

Agree. Not sure whether kicking for 3 was the right call though in that wind. Also there could have been a number of penalties in the last minute (not rolling away, playing the scrum half, coming in from the side), but most refs struggle to make a game changing decision then, and even more so if you are local.

Yep. At PRG there’s also still Kent at 7, who played Academy Week last year and GK the week before. Also Christian le Roux (who hasn’t played so far this year), but who was the outstanding loose forward at GK last year. I have a suspicion that they’ll try to move one or two of the bigger loose forwards to lock for CW to fit more loose forwards into the team.

I would just like to say Well done to both Menlo and Kloof for puting up a greatPuk final, I was there to watch the game and both teams never gave up right to the final whistle, paar seer lywe vandag, luckily Menlo has two weeks to hopefully recover the boys for Helpmekaar next week because this 1st team is full of young tallent but depth is always the big issue, that being said it was a great game to watch!!

Wesi u19 this year so won’t be there. Milnerton 6, Neil, Kemp and Potgieter are the obvious picks for the 4 WP A team loose forwards. For the XV team there’s no shortage of competition either. Boishaai captain is a great fetcher, Gim 7 very athletic, entire SACS loose trio were excellent at Noord Suid. WP could field a 3rd side at Craven Week and still be competitive.

Jeppe were fatally overconfident, arrogant…? Even after conceding 3 early tries, 19 – 0 down…their backline crafts a very good try but the wing’s ostentatious swan dive in front of the spectators tells you his tries are the only ones that matter?… their second try similar…then having taken 70 points, they get a consolation try – and well done for persevering lads – but the player holds the ball, goading the opposition for moments before dotting down….what? Rubbing their noses in it ..? I guess they feel they can score 4 tries against anybody. Let the negative 70 sink in.

Boys High made a lot of unforced errors too, their 9, 10 and 12 need to work a lot on their passing but if they do better there this team could be good…KES’ first 20 mins were impressive, the lads tried very hard to get that Noord Suid trauma behind them…but with more injuries piling up, it’s going to be a difficult Easter.

Rondebosch and Northwood at the festival – with Affies, Helpmekaar, Nordheuwel, Westville, DHS and return fixtures vs PBHS and Jeppe still to come – tougher and tougher – hopefully they start building some confidence and their injured players return! Again though, was a great result for Boys High. To come from behind and win it at KES is not easy. Got some big, powerful runners in their pack too! I think that is their first victory in Houghton since 2012.

Congrats PBHS, I was toggling between games and the celebrations at the end from the Candies was like they had won the World Cup! PBHS back? My Glenwood side jsut didn’t spark, I think undercooked. They surely should improve in the season and beat College in the return. We have a tough one vs Monnas, Milnerton (unknown force) and Dale.

That was a physical, bruising encounter! I’m pleased for Boys High. You are spot on. KES can’t keep blowing first half leads at home. It should be pointed out that this is the first year in many that KES have played such a tough set of fixtures before the Easter festival. To play Jeppe, Gim, Sacs and PBHS in a row is not easy. Two tough fixtures lie ahead in the next few days.

😂 daai is Gim ondersteuners se coping mechanism – gaan ‘n vriend daar nou kontak.

The problem is that there is so much talent in WP. Neill and Wesi are probably nailed on for 6 and 7 in the WP A team. Then it’s probably a shootout between Potgieter and Kemp for 8, with the other one probably on the bench.

Vat jou punte as jy kan, of druk drieë wyd. As jy beserings by agterste drie het is dit egter nie so maklik nie.

Ek weet nie of daar n beter 8 as Kemp in SA skole rugby is nie. Affies was Baie gelukkig teen Gim.

Grey kry Gim, Helpmekaar, Garsfontein, HJS, Affies teen 17 Mei.
Rondebosch storm voort – Milnerton groei mooi.
Geluk Stellenberg – mooi wen teen Wynberg!

Dit was HJS se suksesresep teen Affies.

Daai close game weg was massive… Al was dit n verloor. Dink die Bere is n op die dag span…. Monnas in n verwoestende bui.

Oakdale’s massive pack needs to show that they can play two halves of rugby. I’ve seen them drop off in the second half a few times – notably against Grey and Rondebosch. Especially visible in the scrums; and HJS has a powerful scrum this year (ask Affies).

    KES VS BOYS HIGH

Taken from the KES Rugby Facebook page – if KES win tomorrow, they go ahead of Boys High on the overall ledger for the first time since 1985. Played 116, KES won 54, Boys High won 54 and 8 draws. If Boys High win tomorrow it will be their first victory since 2012. Big game – I’m pretty sure all the boys are aware of the stats  Good luck to both teams and may the Reds emerge triumphant!!

Wanza brother we really need this one over the boys from Houghton, 2023 was probably our best chance in a while some said we’d do the double & we squandered it, hopefully this year we can get it done.
We seem to play much better against them at KES due to the narrower REDS field that allow our forwards to get over them in comparison to a big, wide Brooks field where they can run the ball a lot. Wish I had a free one but I’m playing club rugby, I’m the only BH old boy at Wanderers so I hope I’ll get to rub it in a few guys’ faces!
Backing you guys to do the job against Monnas, though I feel we shouldn’t write them off as they aren’t a bad side either.

Affies will square up at the front with Paarl Gim but that Gim backline is next level – that may very well be the difference.

    Agree with most the predictions
I think Affies are good for 7 more points maybe, and my bias hopes we can put a bit more daylight on Monnas..

Pretoria Boys though, you feel this is it, after 11+ years to get it right vs KES, if Jeppe weren’t playing I probably would have gone to that one, but I have a free Saturday I will be in Kensington definitely!!

Agree Affies vs Gim will be nailbiter.
Think SACS will take it though

I think Ville will beat Northwood, just my feeling. Glenwood are a dark horse this year, if only they were playing Hilton and DHS to really see the right pecking order. They are coming in under the radar and a little under-cooked for KERF, hopefully not too undercooked in Maritzburra….

    Mostly in alignment, but:
    – Affies will be closer to Gim
    – Landbou will beat sacs
    (I think)

there’s a particular prediction you made that i sure do hope comes to life! but i will say i see Pearson beating the Selbornians, Northwood won’t win so comfortably against Ville & Oakdale won’t be a walkover at home!

Great summary Grassy. If this weekend’s game gets anywhere close to that 2013 battle it will be a great afternoon.
Westville v Northwood is also going to be huge- perhaps it will come down to home ground advantage giving Northwood the edge. Both packs look very capable so it could be which set of backs has more flair or which kicker has a good day. Great situation when it’s too close too call.

    GLENWOOD VS COLLEGE

Since time began, first official fixture was in 1921.

    Played: 180
    Won: 49 (27.22%)
    Lost: 112 (62.22%)
    Draws: 15 (8.33%)
    Points Against: 2,976 (Avg 17)
    Points For: 1,765 (Avg 10)

    Biggest Win: 57-12 (2015)
Biggest Loss: 13-61 (1995) – I was there and it was horrific
Longest Winning streak: 15 games (2011 to 2019)
Longest Losing streak: 30 games (1947 to 1963) – my uncle was in that 1963 Glenwood side.

One of the best games of schoolboy rugby was played on College’s 150th Reunion Day in 2013 at College, Glenwood ruining the party, winning 44-40, with the score changing every few mins. College are the ‘north-star’ or pinnacle of KZN rugby, always respected and admired. Their massive BE does help with the extreme depth they have…

As I understand this Saturday’s games are postponed to the 26th, due to wet pitch conditions. The semi’s will however replace the finals, with the two semi-winners sharing the spoils.

Glenwood vs College must be one of the derbies with the most games played before, must be 160+ by now, will dig the archives! Been green since 2000, but red, black & white past couple of years. Let’s just say it’s a derby that doesn’t get enough recognition or exposure…

Menlo by 1  It’s going to be close …

Zwartkop vs Marais Viljoen is going to be very interesting, Zwartkop still undefeated and seems to have a very good side.

First NoordVaal game Gars vs Helpies … Gars the big favorites and for the competition.

Oakdale vs HJS … my support is for the home team!

Excited to see WK vs Menlo. Feel Menlo haven’t truly been tested thus far with the quality of opponents vs what WK have had to deal with and seems like Menlo has a good team after a few years of struggles

Big fixtures possibly ending within 10-7 points of each other:
    Selborne vs Pearson
    KES vs PBHS
    WK vs Menlo
    NW vs Westville (huge)
    Helpies vs Garsies
    WBHS vs Stellies

A few other big ones, but I don’t think they’ll be decided within 10 points.
