The five year long sponsorship relationship between insurance broker company Virseker and the unique and very popular Noordvaal cup schoolboy rugby competitions has ended. This means the organisers are in search of a new title sponsorship. The rugby competition spans the rugby union regions of the Blue Bulls, Leopards, Limpopo, Lions, Pumas and Valke.
No sponsorship won’t bring things to a halt as if anything Covid lockdowns/suspensions of winter school sport has increased the desire for all involved to see the action return. However the extra finances do make it more feasible for covering little things like rugby balls and lunches as well as bigger goals such as securing the benefits of a broadcasting platform e.g. Kyknet on DSTV.
Given the popularity of schoolboy rugby, its expected that replacement sponsors will be queuing up for the opportunity, as there is plenty of mileage to be earned due to the positive associations and wide-reaching audience of the age-group level version of the sport. The make or break negotiations are possibly going to revolve around the size of the sponsorship deal in relation to the benefits to be derived by the sponsoring company – but this is normal business practice.
