A great result for Grey rugby this result but long term this kind of situation is not healthy for SBR.

@Queenian: look they are not great but should be in the top 20,u14 lost one game u15 lost one game and the team is the same, got one boy from Hudson this year that should add to the team.Seem to be issue’ amongst the boys, they not playing for each other was much better in the second half against dale on Saturday.I saw with the u16’s from last year the same thing happened, good u14 and u15 and u16 just did nothing, maybe an age thing

@QC86: okay, both your boys in the squad? Wonder how many Queenians in the squad, I’m thinking Kevin Ngcofo, our 8thman, maybe young Matanzima at loosehead and Yaw Penxa our fullback.

Yeah Jedwin hasn’t been as good as last year this year. Still think he should be one of the 1st choice loose forwards, interestingly enough Hollis has been playing 8 for Queen’s, but I feel he’s better at blinside. Jedwin has been playing at blindside and I feel he’s better at 8

@QC86: were you at the trials the other day? How did Grant go in the u16s? It’s odd though if it’ll end up with Bolze at 10 and Gosa at 12, last year at the Academy Week, it was Gosa at 10 and Bolze at 12. Mr Loest is taking the reigns this year, we could be in for a good Craven Week. Loose trio another interesting 1, Steyn at 6, Hollis at 7 and Jedwin at 8. Mvimbi, the Dalian blindside on the bench

@beet: @Queenian: Gosa is a far better 12 than 10,at trails the other day he played 12 and was brilliant,i think he will play 12 at Craven week.Last year at the QC Selborne game Gareth Wright from the Kings was asking alot about him,so what do you think.
@Queenian: you keep saying Selborne u16’s are average, they lost to Rondebosch by 5 points and should have won, they lost to Daniel Pienaar in injury time and both those schools are in the top 5 in the u16 rankings, what cost them was that those were their first two games of the year, and our headmaster will not allow our teams to train before the 20th of March  and you can’t play that quality opposition and not be ready.

@Playa: was Gosa at Dale Junior, that boy is good hey. I wonder who’s picked him up for next year. He already has a SA u18 7s medal to his name. Perhaps the only real weakness in his game is kicking in general. He’s improved massively in those areas too though

@Playa: What is worrying for Border is when the current group of Under16,s get to first things dont look good Selborne are average at best/Dale are pretty bad/ And Queens are very weak.

The best age groups i think for Queens/Selborne are Under14/Under15 Dale well i am not sure could be a hard 5 years.

@Playa: Gosa. Really good no.10. Nice balance and feel for the game. I especially like it when he plays flat on the line and distributes in traffic at speed. That takes skill. Those are the kind of flyhalves that generally do well playing the Sharks style of play, not that our play is anything to write home about right now.

A bit late to the ruck.Well done to Selborne on a great day out in King last Saturday.Im very concerned by the huge margins in the under 14 and under 15 games. The loss of players is really evident.

The 1st team game was an awesome game to watch. Not because the sides were great top sides, but simply the heart shown by both sides.I really thought the Dalians would get a huge hiding, but they took the game to the Selbornians and matched them everywhere, except for the breakdown(which is where they ultimately lost the game).

    A nailbiting pleasure to watch.

Selborne flyhalf – what a player!!!Dale once again hasgiven Selborne a great player

@Westers: I think home and away fixtures each year between Glenwood, Westville and College would be fantastic. I have no problem with Glenwood dropping the Pinetown fixture to make room for this. I’ve said it before – there is no point in playing matches that result in 80 point scorelines regardless of how much “fun” the boys have in the process. The Pinetown teams can play staggers against lower Glenwood teams on the weekends we play the smaller schools. This would be far more beneficial for all concerned – Pinetown, Westville and Glenwood.

@Scrum Doctor: The problem is finding a time suitable to both schools and that fits in with CW trials and friendlies as well as scheduled school games. I also know that Westville boys write their half year exams commencing about 11 June and ending on 21 June – the last day of term. I heard a date of Thursday 20 June was proposed but this would mean Westville having to reschedule exams to suit. I don’t know if they can or will. I am sure Kearsney will have similar issues. Keep in mind that it would also require 2 afternoons for all teams to play and personally I think it is more important for all teams to play than only the first and A teams.
One option I really wish they would look at (but I know neither school will) is to play the fixture on the first Saturday of the 3rd term – 20 July. Bring on the day that Westville plays rugby into the third term like Glenwood and College.

@ Scrumdoctor: believe me; there is no other game the boys in the Kearsney 1st XV would like to play is non other than the Westville fixture. Any avoidance as a consequence of CW absenteeism is understandable, wouldn’t you say!? So please don’t hint at Kearsney not wanting to have the fixture. That’s simply childish

@QC86: That was the year they beat Selborne (19-18) and St. Andrews and lost to Queens. Actually, 2011 was a similar season for Boland than the current one, when they also lost about 50% of their games but also beat Paul Roos on the Farm by a couple of points.

@CharlesZA: Think they will, Duppie and Divan have worked hard and deserve the current success with the team. Tiaan Swanepoel is the 15 (played Grant Khomo last year, still in Gr. 11), he has loads of BMT and a huge boot. If not this year, he hopefully gets an opportunity to play WP CW next year.

I hope they do keep their feet on the ground. They should have won by 20 more points this weekend but got the idea they expected to score at will. their goal line defense was also pretty bad with Punt scoring every time down the field.

Really like the look of the fullback, see he is only a reserve at CW trails which is surprising. Still want to send their coach a mail and tell him to speak to 1 or 2 of the boys, was not impressed with how they handled themselves on the field.

When will I have a Stellenberg jersey. :)

@BuffelsCM: Most refs are blind as it is, so old, slow and blind sounds like a recipe for disaster, although definitely good for the school’s BEE rating! Yet we are reminded here often that we should respect and appreciate these tireless servants of the game, so I’m all for a geriatric ref in a golf-cart, if that pleases our PC-society

@CharlesZA: Yes, watched them play a few matches and was impressed by the speedy back line, especially 13 and the one wing, but they have to work on their line-outs. For age group rankings you can visit School Rugby Scores, the u/14’s were 10th last week, u/15’s 48th and u/16’s 39th. Hope you hang around for a while, gave you enough free advertizing, so will have my full Landbou jersey back, thank you.

Have already congratulated you enough on the win against Landbou as well, you played what they had available on the day and did well, but I hope they keep perspective and build on it.

After watching the open sides at Voortrekker on Saturday I was perturbed by the number of cards shown – some very warrented and some a bit iffy ( one un-named centre also got away with a certain card because the ref did not see.). Is this a crackdown or just over enthusiastic refs ? Certain teams were let down by their disciplin and should be punihed accordingly. It was just unusual to see so many cards ! Was this evident in the other games over the week end ? I am all for enforcing safe playing conditions so am certainly not complaining – it was just unusual!

@CharlesZA: What I know about them, is the fact that many boys from Gene Louw and Eversdal Primary schools were convinced to go to the nearby Stellenberg High. In the past many of the good rugby players went to the Paarl / Stellenbosch schools.
It is however very difficult to retain many of these boys because some parents think that the schools in the suburbs don’t have quality coaches !

@Ploegskaar: The ref who asked the props not to push too hard, is really too old to ref a game at this level. About 4 years ago he nearly cost my team (U/19B at the time) the game because he couldn’t keep up with the pace. You can imagine 4 years down the line what his pace (or rather lack of pace) is ?
The U/16B game started with uncontested scrums. The powerful forwards were therefore “held” back. If you can’t put your opponents under pressure in the scrums (because you are not allowed to push) it is really bad! Being a former member of the front row ( the only row  ) it was not good to see.
They nevertheless put up more than 50 points !

Westvile – Kersney games . Heard this week end that Craven week coaching set up ( AKA Kersney coaching set up) dont want these games to take place due to possible injuries to CW players . If this is the case then just withdraw the CW players but I suspect this will not happen as it looks like Kersney will have more to withdraw than Westville . Only one game really matters so why not play the 1st team game as a “stayers” contest – ie only pick grade 11 boys for the first team and let the rest of the teams carry on as normal ( GK week players just withdraw individual players). This game really does need to take place as too many questions remain unanswered this year . If there is a will there is a way but it looks like people are looking for reasons not to play the game rather than reasons to play it . This does mean a lot to the boys !

@QC86: Happy indeed, and hopefully they can build on this with the 7 injured probably back against Biskoppe in 2 weeks’ time. U/16’s was a close affair which PRG won 10-9, u/15’s drew 8-8 in another close game and the u/14’s sadly got thumped 26-0. The Bellville u/16 team continued on their merry way and bliksemed Durbanville 33-8 (props were asked not to push too hard 8-O ) while the Stellenberg u/14 team remained unbeaten with a 71-0 win against hapless Punt. What did your u/15’s do? Feedback from this side has been that they are a strong group.

Tygerberg, well, good comeback after the defeat at Durbanville last week, but I’m definitely not an active supporter. Followed the SACS/’Bosch game on twitter, and seemed that SACS was in with a shout until the 4th quarter. Should be a good scrap at Stellenberg Saturday, with the u14a and u19a games the ones to look out for. Boland has a bye, so will be there.

SACS unfortunately were in the game until just after half time when Rondebosch scored two quick tries – from then on we were chasing the game…Rondebosch played very well after half time – maybe something in their oranges that kick started their game but they fully deserved their win. :-P

Dit is volgens my ongesond en ek sal my aanhou uitspreek hierteen.

    @Tjoppa:

Paar minute later is Garsies se no.13 afgestuur en Klofies druk 2 keer.

Witbulle wen Diamantveld 32-07. 2. Witbulle wen Queens College 27-13. 3. Witbulle wen Grey PE 31-03. 4. Witbulle wen Dale College 53-0. 5. Witbulle wen John Voster 88-09. 6. Witbulle wen KES 46-06. 7. Witbulle wen Jeppe Boys High 36-18. 8. Witbulle wen Framesby 41-21. 9. Witbulle wen Paul Roos 17-10. 10. Witbulle wen Grey College 37-31. 11. Witbulle vs Waterkloof. 12. Witbulle vs Maritzburg College. 13. Witbulle vs Glenwood. 14. Witbulle vs Pretoria Boys High. 15. Witbulle vs Outeniqua.

@Stormberg Mountains: 1st XV: 40-21 to Queen’s, a good game, score was 19-11 about 20 minutes into the 2nd half, then a 5 minute burst by Queen’s scoring 21 points through 3 tries, Simon Bolze had a flawless kicking performance, he’s been very enjoyable to watch this season. He’s very matured in his approach, makes good decisions, good awareness. Great player.

2nd XV: 25-22 to Queen’s, very lucky to win this one, was 22-20 with about 3 minutes to go, Kingswood were all over Queen’s in the 2nd half.

3rd XV: 22-0 to Queen’s, didn’t watch this one, but I hear Kingswood went down fighting

U16A: 12-7 to Queen’s, HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY!!!! Queen’s 16A came in with a confidence I haven’t seen often from these boys.Perhaps not having a losing record against Kingswood like they do with so many other schools played, it was wonderful to see the boys play so positively, special mention to our pack who were huge on the day. Hopefully the start of a turnaround in fortunes for this group of boys

U16B: 22-19 to Queen’s, yet another game I didn’t watch, but I believe Kingswood gave us a good run.

U15A: 29-5 to Kingswood, Kingswood u15 simply outplayed us here, while our boys made some crucial errors, the Kingswood u15 side is very good, their backline is so good, body swerve, step and pace were just too much for our boys, loose forwards were brilliant, the 8thman was an absolute beast. Our boys still showed glimpses of that class they possess, just a pity about so many injuries.

U14A: 56-0 to Queen’s, to call it 1 way traffic would quite simply be an understatement, Kingswood were nowhere.

Not aware of the 14B and 15B results, they were at the same time as the 15A and 16A games respectively.

@Queenian: Undoubtedly- A father was so impressed by the “contribution” by JJS, that he named his son after that school. And is he not doing well? I would not be surprised if he becomes a Bok , even this year.@rugbyfan: I have commented on the standard of refereeing here often. But this is certainly not confined to SA. Its as bad in NZ and Oz. Look what happened when the Sharks and Kaplan went their separate ways. If its this bad at this level, can you imagine what its like at school level(I suppose you can imagine) and the lower you go, the worse it gets.@BuffelsCM: Dankie, dit was n besonderse voorreg en dit lyk vir my , hoe langer mens weg is, hoe groter word die voorreg. Ongelukkig word daardie trots soms verkeerdelik deur ander as wingatgeid vertolk terwyl nederigheid eintlik n belangrike deel vd skool se ethos is. Praat jy van US?

So ja ek dink dit moet nogal spesiaal wees om in so ‘n instelling skool te gaan.

Stem saam agterlangs dink ek persoonlik is Affies beter daaraan toe as Garsfontein.

@BOG: Went to watch my beloved Cheethars last night and my with my good omen they won.

A few things i would like to raise was the refering was shocking actually was quite embrassing actually felt sorry for the Reds they were never going to win that match no matter what happened. And the TMO was worse not sure as SAFFA,s we want this type of thing happening under our noses when we scream foul when our teams are overseas.

A couple of games i have watched now in SA this year the ref,s have been shocking the Bulls have benifited in at least to games just due to our ref,s.

The Reds attack i must say is better than Cheethars which is saying alot. And one thing i can say after last night is Raymond Rhule will never be a bok he is a bit nervous around the contack area.

@beet: I find your comments next to the win of the Cherries rather strange. Do you really think that the boys go to Grey, exclusively to play rugby? What about improving their maths and science? After all, they were/are in the top 10 for those subjects in the country regularly. But if you insist on thinking that it is strange that boys would rather play for Greys seconds than another schools first team, hold on- it gets even more strange. There are many boys in the 3rds, 4ths, 5ths, 5ths ect ect, who would rather play in their respective sides than in another schools first team. And just confirmation of this point? Last nights MOM between Cheetahs and Reds, (Piet Van Zyl) played Thirds. What about the Sharks SH? Several years ago, a “lock of colour” from the 5th team, was selected for CW. There he was elected for the SA Academy side, effectively the SA schools B side. He did his duty there, represented his school and country and when he finished doing so, returned to the Fifth side where he finished his school rugby. If you have not read Bertus Preller, an OG, piece on Grey, try doing so. It goes a long way to explain what that institution is about and I think that he has come the closest in capturing the essence of being there.

Wat ‘n opwinde game was die Garsies Klofies wedstryd nie gewees nie….. wipplank gery soos ek in my eerste jaar by die surkus as hoofnar!

If Oakdale had played HJS at Wildeklawer, the result probably would have justified their respectively rankings.

Last week: Boland Landbou loses to Stellenberg while PRG gets a respectable result against Gim.

@Rugbyman: Affies wees bang. Wees baie bang.

    Lekker dag dankie seuns.

@Tjoppa.

Did Grey Bloem stopped playing rugby, or in order to get their season back on track cancelled, pulled an Eldoraign, on their organised TOP opponents and organised easier games. That is a known way to get the team first used to winning again. Must warn them not to play the Cherries. Sure thing, will keep you updated.

@rugbyfan: Selborne go in with a 12 point advantage here. But the occasion might give the Dalians that extra push. This reunion is dedicated to Jack Rosenberg, a legend in the Dale corridors, who will be attending his last ever reunion. He has been a part of Dale and the ODU since he was in Standard 1 in 1936. Add the possible 100th victory, I’d say the boys have all the motivation to cause an upset here.

At least next year looks like Noord Kaap is on and Graeme maybe aslo a small chance of 8 teams going to play MC next year so lets see, which could become a yearly event.

Only problem with schools like Marlow and Brandwag they are very keen for say Dale/Queens to bring there teams to them but dont want to do it the other way like Marlow this year with Queens said they could not make the date but want Queens to go there next year.

Anyway good luck with Selborne send me some up dates on Saterday

@Queenian: Not a chance. In 1997, some pundits reckoned Selborne woul catch up within 20 years. Since ’98, Selborne is 19-11 up on the count. I believe I’ll be dead before Selborne catches up

I think Dale should also look into bringing back the Graeme fixture. Drop the Stirling fixture is space is an issue. And maybe add Marlow or Brandwag as well…seeing as we dont have Afrikkans opposition anymore after having discontinued the Dan Pienaar and Framesby fixtures.

@ Greenblooded- there would have been cause for wonder if Westville had 10 B team boys in the final squads who were obviously not good enough to make the schools A team. Thankfully this is not the case here  and the people in the know have little to complain about, As it turns out Strydom who I believe was theU15 DRSU man of the tournament last year was not even included. If you coach at Hillcrest you might know of him. I think Pedantic might have a case for the K scrummie and the issue of Simpson has been discussed at length.

Think College need to be careful against KES this weekend. No room for complacency in SBR, form book goes out the window once the boys are on the field. Same for Glenwood at DHS. GW are on a good run of form but they were on a similar patch a few years ago when they went to Northwood and lost a scrappy game.

A full list of fixtures, all being played at Voortrekker against Port Natal, Voortrekker, Alex, Amanzimtoti and Pmb Development. Well done to all concerned.

Graeme again where the better side. This team must be the most unluckiest side ever, they lose narrowly to Grey, Selborne and ST Andrew’s where they were clearly where the better side pity they don’t play Queens or Dale as a fixture. But i feel sorry for Grey PE when the play the mighty College at lower. I’m smelling a hammering there. The only sides that pose a threat to St Andrew’s unbeaten run are Queens and Selborne. @HORSEFLY NO.1: Horsy it sounds similar to the PBHS song. I’ll rather be a pebble than a ROCK from Affies High!

@All Black: Ouch – never realised it was that much of a hiding. For anyone in Joburg that is interested in SBR and have not seen Kearsney play, come on down. The du Preez’s, Schramm, Reece-Edwards, Tedder and Lines are all great players.

@Queenian: Are you going to be at the QC-KC game?Never easy at City Lords, the Queenians better not use Kingswood’s recent results as an indication of anything.I do, however believe QC go into that game with a 10 point lead.

As for Dale-Selborne…massive game. I hope my boys have gathered some much needed confidence from their recent wins, albeit against weak opposition.Cant wait to see that clash.

QUICK, QUICK, QUICK WITH A VERY BIG STICK TO CHASE AWAY THE BIG BABOON!!!

@Rugbyman: Rugbyman sounds if you guys is looking for payback for the 100 something score against you a couple of seasons ago. Don’t kick the Klofies in the balls while they are down and out 8-O
What time the first team match?

Garsfontein vs Waterkloof the match of the day in Pretoria on Saturday! Will be a huge game especially since Kloof unexpectadly lost agains Noord-Kaap last weekend and they will want to bounce back hard! Its gonna be a gr8 game to watch between the two neighbours…

@All Black: Kearsney will definitely win easily, but it won’t be close to 76, as: a) Saints are very erratic, so last week was just a shocker day; and b) Saints dropped their star flyhalf (Innocent Radebe who played CW last year) for arguing with the coach….so I’m told. He will surely be back.

Nevertheless, I think that Kearsney will still win by a comfortable 25 to 30 points.

For any Kearsney Old Boys, there are going to be loads of us at the St Stithians game. Remember that the kickoff of the 1st’s is at 11:40. It will a great display of SBR!

Dale vs Selborne also a big game at Dale reuion. Dale need to pull this one off to get there season going otherwise things look bleak. Dale Under16A have a chance i think against a very ordinary Seleborne team.

Kingswood vs Queens back on has not been played since 1988 i think very important for both teams Kingswood have been quite poor but on paper have quite a good team, Queens have under performed and lost some close one on the road so far Queens have only played one home game this season from 9 games so a win here might just get there season back on track.

Good to see these two schools play each other again.

As far as i know they have played 43 times Queens have won 27 Kingswood 13 and 3 draws
