A great result for Grey rugby this result but long term this kind of situation is not healthy for SBR. |

@Queenian: look they are not great but should be in the top 20,u14 lost one game u15 lost one game and the team is the same, got one boy from Hudson this year that should add to the team.Seem to be issue’ amongst the boys, they not playing for each other was much better in the second half against dale on Saturday.I saw with the u16’s from last year the same thing happened, good u14 and u15 and u16 just did nothing, maybe an age thing
@QC86: okay, both your boys in the squad? Wonder how many Queenians in the squad, I’m thinking Kevin Ngcofo, our 8thman, maybe young Matanzima at loosehead and Yaw Penxa our fullback.
Yeah Jedwin hasn’t been as good as last year this year. Still think he should be one of the 1st choice loose forwards, interestingly enough Hollis has been playing 8 for Queen’s, but I feel he’s better at blinside. Jedwin has been playing at blindside and I feel he’s better at 8
@Ludz: @QC86: Do you have the Craven week squads
@QC86: Was going on your comments that they were nothing great.
@Ludz: no Davy was and he told me,Gosa can not kick Jedwin has been very disappointing, big and strong but never in the thick of things.u16’s sounds like 9 from Selborne are in the squad of 22
@QC86: were you at the trials the other day? How did Grant go in the u16s? It’s odd though if it’ll end up with Bolze at 10 and Gosa at 12, last year at the Academy Week, it was Gosa at 10 and Bolze at 12. Mr Loest is taking the reigns this year, we could be in for a good Craven Week. Loose trio another interesting 1, Steyn at 6, Hollis at 7 and Jedwin at 8. Mvimbi, the Dalian blindside on the bench
Where can I see the other age group rankings?
@beet: @Queenian: Gosa is a far better 12 than 10,at trails the other day he played 12 and was brilliant,i think he will play 12 at Craven week.Last year at the QC Selborne game Gareth Wright from the Kings was asking alot about him,so what do you think.
@Queenian: you keep saying Selborne u16’s are average, they lost to Rondebosch by 5 points and should have won, they lost to Daniel Pienaar in injury time and both those schools are in the top 5 in the u16 rankings, what cost them was that those were their first two games of the year, and our headmaster will not allow our teams to train before the 20th of March and you can’t play that quality opposition and not be ready.
@Playa: was Gosa at Dale Junior, that boy is good hey. I wonder who’s picked him up for next year. He already has a SA u18 7s medal to his name. Perhaps the only real weakness in his game is kicking in general. He’s improved massively in those areas too though
@Playa: What is worrying for Border is when the current group of Under16,s get to first things dont look good Selborne are average at best/Dale are pretty bad/ And Queens are very weak.
The best age groups i think for Queens/Selborne are Under14/Under15 Dale well i am not sure could be a hard 5 years.
@Playa: Who are Dale playing this weekend
@Playa: Selborne flyhalf is good
@Playa: Gosa. Really good no.10. Nice balance and feel for the game. I especially like it when he plays flat on the line and distributes in traffic at speed. That takes skill. Those are the kind of flyhalves that generally do well playing the Sharks style of play, not that our play is anything to write home about right now.
A bit late to the ruck.Well done to Selborne on a great day out in King last Saturday.Im very concerned by the huge margins in the under 14 and under 15 games. The loss of players is really evident.
The 1st team game was an awesome game to watch. Not because the sides were great top sides, but simply the heart shown by both sides.I really thought the Dalians would get a huge hiding, but they took the game to the Selbornians and matched them everywhere, except for the breakdown(which is where they ultimately lost the game).
A nailbiting pleasure to watch.
Selborne flyhalf – what a player!!!Dale once again hasgiven Selborne a great player
@Westers: I think home and away fixtures each year between Glenwood, Westville and College would be fantastic. I have no problem with Glenwood dropping the Pinetown fixture to make room for this. I’ve said it before – there is no point in playing matches that result in 80 point scorelines regardless of how much “fun” the boys have in the process. The Pinetown teams can play staggers against lower Glenwood teams on the weekends we play the smaller schools. This would be far more beneficial for all concerned – Pinetown, Westville and Glenwood.
@Scrum Doctor: I also don’t think it is a good idea to play the 1st team game without the Craven Week players in either team. That would detract from the end result.
@Scrum Doctor: The problem is finding a time suitable to both schools and that fits in with CW trials and friendlies as well as scheduled school games. I also know that Westville boys write their half year exams commencing about 11 June and ending on 21 June – the last day of term. I heard a date of Thursday 20 June was proposed but this would mean Westville having to reschedule exams to suit. I don’t know if they can or will. I am sure Kearsney will have similar issues. Keep in mind that it would also require 2 afternoons for all teams to play and personally I think it is more important for all teams to play than only the first and A teams.
One option I really wish they would look at (but I know neither school will) is to play the fixture on the first Saturday of the 3rd term – 20 July. Bring on the day that Westville plays rugby into the third term like Glenwood and College.
@kcob: Then play the game to avoid any “childish hints” Apart from bragging rights I believe it would be one cracker of a game and I know many supporters from both sides who would make the effort to be there regardless of when it was played .
@ Scrumdoctor: believe me; there is no other game the boys in the Kearsney 1st XV would like to play is non other than the Westville fixture. Any avoidance as a consequence of CW absenteeism is understandable, wouldn’t you say!? So please don’t hint at Kearsney not wanting to have the fixture. That’s simply childish
@QC86: That was the year they beat Selborne (19-18) and St. Andrews and lost to Queens. Actually, 2011 was a similar season for Boland than the current one, when they also lost about 50% of their games but also beat Paul Roos on the Farm by a couple of points.
@Ploegskaar: any thing is possible from a Queenian,Selborne need to repay a little 2011 loss in King, that loss cost them their unbeating record and the schools first ever unbeaten side, sis
@QC86: Good result, they also moered Stellenberg u/15 55-0 earlier this year. BTW, Warren watched the game with me on the Farm Saturday and he seemed quite impressed, assume he will support Landbou against the Baboonas at Cape Schools Week
@Ploegskaar: the u15’s beat Dale 72 zip,no stars in that team, they just play for each other and have got a coach to guide them,no side shows and off the ball rubbish,in fact during their game one of their players was picked up and speared after the whistle, really bad stuff and i thought well here comes a fight of note,it was right in front of me,the player got up smiled at the oke and run back to his position, great stuff,Dalian got a yellow should have been a red
@CharlesZA: Think they will, Duppie and Divan have worked hard and deserve the current success with the team. Tiaan Swanepoel is the 15 (played Grant Khomo last year, still in Gr. 11), he has loads of BMT and a huge boot. If not this year, he hopefully gets an opportunity to play WP CW next year.
Beet will sort you with a jersey, he can give you my old one
I hope they do keep their feet on the ground. They should have won by 20 more points this weekend but got the idea they expected to score at will. their goal line defense was also pretty bad with Punt scoring every time down the field.
Really like the look of the fullback, see he is only a reserve at CW trails which is surprising. Still want to send their coach a mail and tell him to speak to 1 or 2 of the boys, was not impressed with how they handled themselves on the field.
When will I have a Stellenberg jersey.
@BuffelsCM: Most refs are blind as it is, so old, slow and blind sounds like a recipe for disaster, although definitely good for the school’s BEE rating! Yet we are reminded here often that we should respect and appreciate these tireless servants of the game, so I’m all for a geriatric ref in a golf-cart, if that pleases our PC-society
@Queenian: Hey i see Queens actually got a win did the JJS boys play for you this week.
@CharlesZA: Yes, watched them play a few matches and was impressed by the speedy back line, especially 13 and the one wing, but they have to work on their line-outs. For age group rankings you can visit School Rugby Scores, the u/14’s were 10th last week, u/15’s 48th and u/16’s 39th. Hope you hang around for a while, gave you enough free advertizing, so will have my full Landbou jersey back, thank you.
Have already congratulated you enough on the win against Landbou as well, you played what they had available on the day and did well, but I hope they keep perspective and build on it.
After watching the open sides at Voortrekker on Saturday I was perturbed by the number of cards shown – some very warrented and some a bit iffy ( one un-named centre also got away with a certain card because the ref did not see.). Is this a crackdown or just over enthusiastic refs ? Certain teams were let down by their disciplin and should be punihed accordingly. It was just unusual to see so many cards ! Was this evident in the other games over the week end ? I am all for enforcing safe playing conditions so am certainly not complaining – it was just unusual!
@CharlesZA: What I know about them, is the fact that many boys from Gene Louw and Eversdal Primary schools were convinced to go to the nearby Stellenberg High. In the past many of the good rugby players went to the Paarl / Stellenbosch schools.
It is however very difficult to retain many of these boys because some parents think that the schools in the suburbs don’t have quality coaches !
@QC86: Queens Under16A beat Kingswood 17-15 sure there must be floods coming first win this year and after only notching up two wins as Under15,s last year and 3 as Under14,s they still far off the 10 win mark as a age group what a shocker.
@Ploegskaar: The ref who asked the props not to push too hard, is really too old to ref a game at this level. About 4 years ago he nearly cost my team (U/19B at the time) the game because he couldn’t keep up with the pace. You can imagine 4 years down the line what his pace (or rather lack of pace) is ?
The U/16B game started with uncontested scrums. The powerful forwards were therefore “held” back. If you can’t put your opponents under pressure in the scrums (because you are not allowed to push) it is really bad! Being a former member of the front row ( the only row ) it was not good to see.
They nevertheless put up more than 50 points !
Ploeg have you watched the Stellenberg u14 side play? Do they have plenty CW players from last year?
Westvile – Kersney games . Heard this week end that Craven week coaching set up ( AKA Kersney coaching set up) dont want these games to take place due to possible injuries to CW players . If this is the case then just withdraw the CW players but I suspect this will not happen as it looks like Kersney will have more to withdraw than Westville . Only one game really matters so why not play the 1st team game as a “stayers” contest – ie only pick grade 11 boys for the first team and let the rest of the teams carry on as normal ( GK week players just withdraw individual players). This game really does need to take place as too many questions remain unanswered this year . If there is a will there is a way but it looks like people are looking for reasons not to play the game rather than reasons to play it . This does mean a lot to the boys !
@QC86: Happy indeed, and hopefully they can build on this with the 7 injured probably back against Biskoppe in 2 weeks’ time. U/16’s was a close affair which PRG won 10-9, u/15’s drew 8-8 in another close game and the u/14’s sadly got thumped 26-0. The Bellville u/16 team continued on their merry way and bliksemed Durbanville 33-8 (props were asked not to push too hard ) while the Stellenberg u/14 team remained unbeaten with a 71-0 win against hapless Punt. What did your u/15’s do? Feedback from this side has been that they are a strong group.
@Ploegskaar: you must be one happy blogger after a weekend like that, mooi man. What was the u16 score, happy to say Selborne u16’s beat Dale 29 15,first half was a shocker
@sacssupporter: Boland, Bellville and Stellenberg, in that order, brought a smile to my face. Tygerberg, well, good comeback after the defeat at Durbanville last week, but I’m definitely not an active supporter. Followed the SACS/’Bosch game on twitter, and seemed that SACS was in with a shout until the 4th quarter. Should be a good scrap at Stellenberg Saturday, with the u14a and u19a games the ones to look out for. Boland has a bye, so will be there.
@Ploegskaar: You must be smiling very broadly after this weekend’s results – great wins for Boland Landbou, Tygerberg & Stellenberg.
SACS unfortunately were in the game until just after half time when Rondebosch scored two quick tries – from then on we were chasing the game…Rondebosch played very well after half time – maybe something in their oranges that kick started their game but they fully deserved their win. See you ate Stellenberg on Saturday – it should be a great game!
Hy was blatant skelm.
Goeie wen oor Wynberg vir Tiere se o19A, o16A en o14A.
@Magic12: Shoulder injury – We don’t know how bad.
What happened to the westville number 9? After Northwood this weekend coming there are some big games coming up and I feel like we need him back! His combination with Reece has been the platform in my eyes that has moved the team forward!! Still hoping for a feel boys in the craven week team
Beskou jou as ryk, ryker as baie.
@Tjoppa: In haar ouerhuis- ver verwyderd vd aksie.
@Tjoppa:
@Djou: G,n wonder ek en jy klets so lekker nie. Die nursies steeds my gunsteling beroep.
@Almal: Over and out till Wednesday. Unfortunately has appointments in Cape Town and out of blogging for a few days.
Anders was daar fout.
Wonderlike talent misken in Pretoria.
@Tjoppa: LoL!!!!!!!!
@Klofie Pa: Kan jy vir my ‘n Klofie true reel asb.
ai my hoop my pelle doen dit vir my!!! Lekker!!
@Djou: Het nou net Idols gekyk by die buurvrou.
@Eish Thoppa!!! Dit is ‘n goeie een.
Kovsies is ‘n wonderlike universiteit.
As jy kontakte soek daar, kan ek jou help.
@Djou: Hoop Klofiepa luister vir jou. Prag seuns, moet ‘n goeie ma wees, wat verskriklik hard oefen en hul hart uitspeel. Hoop the powers that be het ook Saterdag gekyk.
Dit is volgens my ongesond en ek sal my aanhou uitspreek hierteen.
@Tjoppa:
Paar minute later is Garsies se no.13 afgestuur en Klofies druk 2 keer.
@TheGoose: I hope Westville takes up the offer, at least for the sake of all the other teams at Westville who have had 2 games rained out this term. Reunion day shouldn’t be an excuse.
@Ludz: its a great way to get back on track after the Grey game, i might just this new fixture, if only the were more fixtures for the other teams in the school
@Klofie Pa: Het jy notas gemaak vir Saterdag mnr beskeie.
@Affies: Sak Sarel net Bog mag windgat hier wees.

@ Goose- That Saturday is our Reunion Day ( against MHS) and so I am sure that will be Westville’s priority. It seems that the fixture is drifting away. I suppose these things happen. So Westville don’t play GW and most probably wont play Kearsney. They will have to vent and take it out against College on their 150th. ( although still have to get past House)
@Rhino: Kearsney has offered next Tuesday afternoon as the replacement date for the Westville game – the 28th May, when KC returns from half term…
@Stormberg Mountains: 1st XV: 40-21 to Queen’s, a good game, score was 19-11 about 20 minutes into the 2nd half, then a 5 minute burst by Queen’s scoring 21 points through 3 tries, Simon Bolze had a flawless kicking performance, he’s been very enjoyable to watch this season. He’s very matured in his approach, makes good decisions, good awareness. Great player.
2nd XV: 25-22 to Queen’s, very lucky to win this one, was 22-20 with about 3 minutes to go, Kingswood were all over Queen’s in the 2nd half.
3rd XV: 22-0 to Queen’s, didn’t watch this one, but I hear Kingswood went down fighting
U16A: 12-7 to Queen’s, HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY!!!! Queen’s 16A came in with a confidence I haven’t seen often from these boys.Perhaps not having a losing record against Kingswood like they do with so many other schools played, it was wonderful to see the boys play so positively, special mention to our pack who were huge on the day. Hopefully the start of a turnaround in fortunes for this group of boys
U16B: 22-19 to Queen’s, yet another game I didn’t watch, but I believe Kingswood gave us a good run.
U15A: 29-5 to Kingswood, Kingswood u15 simply outplayed us here, while our boys made some crucial errors, the Kingswood u15 side is very good, their backline is so good, body swerve, step and pace were just too much for our boys, loose forwards were brilliant, the 8thman was an absolute beast. Our boys still showed glimpses of that class they possess, just a pity about so many injuries.
U14A: 56-0 to Queen’s, to call it 1 way traffic would quite simply be an understatement, Kingswood were nowhere.
Not aware of the 14B and 15B results, they were at the same time as the 15A and 16A games respectively.
@Queenian: Undoubtedly- A father was so impressed by the “contribution” by JJS, that he named his son after that school. And is he not doing well? I would not be surprised if he becomes a Bok , even this year.@rugbyfan: I have commented on the standard of refereeing here often. But this is certainly not confined to SA. Its as bad in NZ and Oz. Look what happened when the Sharks and Kaplan went their separate ways. If its this bad at this level, can you imagine what its like at school level(I suppose you can imagine) and the lower you go, the worse it gets.@BuffelsCM: Dankie, dit was n besonderse voorreg en dit lyk vir my , hoe langer mens weg is, hoe groter word die voorreg. Ongelukkig word daardie trots soms verkeerdelik deur ander as wingatgeid vertolk terwyl nederigheid eintlik n belangrike deel vd skool se ethos is. Praat jy van US?
@Speartackle: 1 out of 3 is ordinary. Are you on the Superbru for Schoolboy rugby?
Queens played well if you consider they last played Kingswood College a long time ago. Does anyone know the other results, very good outing at City Lords.
@Ploegskaar: Under statement !!
Having had the pleasure of watching the Kearsney vs Saints match this weekend a notiable breath of fresh air in the strong Kearsney line up is the no. 8 Aaron Scramm. This is certainly a visionary no. 8 for the future he packs a skill set very rarely seen since Bob Skinstad dawned the rugby seen( Pace, distrabution skills, size and physicality). Has anyone else had the pleasure of watching this chap play?
@Queenian: Had 4 of the 9 injured back yesterday, but lost another 2 regulars in the week, so with 7 first choice boys out a gutsy performance. They now have an out weekend, so should be back to full strength against Biskoppe for the first time this year. BTW, they always start slow and finish strong, so looking forward to Cape Schools Week
@Queenian: I think they have a bye. I replied on the other blog
@Queenian: Please sir rephrase your question. Who is Boland Lanbou whipping this weekend is more appropriate .
@Queenian, No Affies did not play, we should have played Eldoriagne but they pulled the plug, every other affies team played agents the lower teams of eldoriagne and pietersburg high,
@Affies: Beslis die unsung hero van Affies. Ek wens net die ander wil hom nadoen. Hy is die verpersoonliking van Affie Guts. My no 6 in SA die jaar.
@Ploegskaar: Who do Boland Landbou play next week
@Ploegskaar: Soos gesê: “don’t ruin the friendship”
@Ploegskaar: See Boland Landbou came right this weekend.
So ja ek dink dit moet nogal spesiaal wees om in so ‘n instelling skool te gaan.
@Ploegskaar: Ploeg ek dink jy ken my gevoel rakende die seuns MAAR moet se die afrigting by Garsfontein is klas.
It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.
@Affies: Did Affies play this weekend.
@rugbyfan: Ye but sometimes luck goes your way but agree the ref/TMO was shocking.
@Affies: Huh uh. Stem saam agterlangs dink ek persoonlik is Affies beter daaraan toe as Garsfontein.
@BOG: Went to watch my beloved Cheethars last night and my with my good omen they won.
A few things i would like to raise was the refering was shocking actually was quite embrassing actually felt sorry for the Reds they were never going to win that match no matter what happened. And the TMO was worse not sure as SAFFA,s we want this type of thing happening under our noses when we scream foul when our teams are overseas.
A couple of games i have watched now in SA this year the ref,s have been shocking the Bulls have benifited in at least to games just due to our ref,s.
The Reds attack i must say is better than Cheethars which is saying alot. And one thing i can say after last night is Raymond Rhule will never be a bok he is a bit nervous around the contack area.
@Tjoppa: Nou maar goed dankie!! Daar leer ek nou ook iets – ek is mos nuut hier, so ek sal dit in gedagte hou!
@BOG: Also remember how well some of the GCB boys have done for JJS.
@QC86: Queens Under15A lost to Kingswood can not beleive a team can do so well and with 3 injuries do so badley.
@Playa: I think the QC vs Kingswood game was always going to be a bit out of Kingswood reach a team without big forwards were not going to be able to take Queens on.
@BOG: People will always be jealous of GCB so i dont think you should take any of those comments seriously.
@QC86: Well as Under16,s go Queens Under16A got there first win of the season i suppose all you can say is Kingswood Under16A must really be weak.
Hoe was daai ou Lunchbar advertensie – “Don’t ruin the friendship!!”
Bly steeds ‘n briljante 15!
@BuffelsCM: Yes he is moantain goat. Shame.
Soms vergeet ek.
@beet: Beet, if I’m not mistaken it’s Justin Phillips and he has already signed for WP during last year. I’ve seen that he is in the B-team of the Bulls” trials
@BOG: Bog it is early Sunday morning and I must agree. A certain boy who was playing Affies 3rds was approached by a school coach, who is now a fulltime coach at the Bulls, to play for his team. This boy smiled and replied ” Oom ek speel liewers vir Affies se tiende span as vir jou eerste span” Beet that is how it is and will be for the next 100 years.
Puik voorgevoel en so hard soos yster.
@BoishaaiPa: Boishaai by 9. Moenie worry nie.
@Klofie Pa: Well done en stuur groete.
Selborne u16a finaly starting to click,15 _3 down at halftime,killed Dale in the second half,at least 5 tightheads,selborne won 29 15.
@Klofie Pa: geluk klofie! Jou mos gese julle het n goeie span! Sien julle innie Beeld finaal!
@beet: I find your comments next to the win of the Cherries rather strange. Do you really think that the boys go to Grey, exclusively to play rugby? What about improving their maths and science? After all, they were/are in the top 10 for those subjects in the country regularly. But if you insist on thinking that it is strange that boys would rather play for Greys seconds than another schools first team, hold on- it gets even more strange. There are many boys in the 3rds, 4ths, 5ths, 5ths ect ect, who would rather play in their respective sides than in another schools first team. And just confirmation of this point? Last nights MOM between Cheetahs and Reds, (Piet Van Zyl) played Thirds. What about the Sharks SH? Several years ago, a “lock of colour” from the 5th team, was selected for CW. There he was elected for the SA Academy side, effectively the SA schools B side. He did his duty there, represented his school and country and when he finished doing so, returned to the Fifth side where he finished his school rugby. If you have not read Bertus Preller, an OG, piece on Grey, try doing so. It goes a long way to explain what that institution is about and I think that he has come the closest in capturing the essence of being there.
@Tjoppa: @Hanswors: interesting comments about the attacking and defensive contributions of the Klofies 9.
Wat ‘n opwinde game was die Garsies Klofies wedstryd nie gewees nie….. wipplank gery soos ek in my eerste jaar by die surkus as hoofnar!
@BuiteBreek: I must say that if you take Gim and Outeniqua out of the equation, the Western Cape is a very interesting and unpredictable SBR region at the moment.
If Oakdale had played HJS at Wildeklawer, the result probably would have justified their respectively rankings.
Last week: Boland Landbou loses to Stellenberg while PRG gets a respectable result against Gim.
No guts, no glory of so iets. Well done seuns.
Geluk Boishaai, so ‘n span moet een of ander tyd vlamvat.
Oakdale se o/16s doen my gestel darem goed.
@BoishaaiPa:
Regtig n lekker dag gewees!!
@Tandem:
Ten minste is my smile terug.

College vs KES – 30-8
Well done Boishaai fantastic result!
Well done Landbou what a turn around from last
week .
Oakdale 10 – Boishaai 38 Final score. Very good win for the boys away.
@BoishaaiPa: Well done Boys’ High !
@Tjoppa: askies, daai nie dasi nie
@Tjoppa: mmmmmm dasi o/16s my span tjop….

@Ploegskaar: Moet ek die Ventertjie haak?
College vs KES, half time 20-3
@Rugbyman: Affies wees bang. Wees baie bang.
Lekker dag dankie seuns.
any dbn scored people ?

@jakes: My prediction: EG by 30…. I was not at all impressed by kempton this year and EG has a very good side
School Boy rugby here we go!
@Tjoppa. More mag weer tough wees maar EG Jansen home ground advantage.
@ VALKE- Jip, EG Jansen/ Kempton sal definitief nie weer laas jaar herhaal nie.
@Tjoppa: The Voice of Reason?
@Clean Rugby: So Affies koop toe Eldo se losskakel. Mooi. Jy is duidelik ‘n kenner rakende Affies.
@beet: Apologise ek trek my tekkies aan.
No problems with debates but hey guys please remember our Rules which are anti running down schools; preserving reputations and facts are vital!
Tjopster
Of is hy jou skaduwee?
Ek dink dit gaan ‘n baie goeie wedstryd wees.
Rugby terroris/realis/iets
Nou hoekom loop koop Affies en Garsies Eldoraigne losskakels as hulle oe groter as hul maag is?
@The Beast: I take it Glenwood is not an white elitistists school like Affies and Klofies then
@Tjoppa: Klink goed Tjop.
Hier by die 7de vinger. Nee toemaar netnou.. Nee los dit uit.
@BOG: Paar regstellings. Asb dis ver. Maar as ek reg onthou is jy getroud met ‘n Chapenees of so iets Oom. Die oe nie meer so goed nie. Lekker droom verder Oom.
@Tjoppa: Tjopster easy girls and Whiskey works against the cold and old age. Not that I have ever tried it.
@The Beast: Al English people excluded from school. What a beautifull gesture from the English community.
@Woltrui: Glenwood High School is an English semi-private high school for Afrikaans, xhosa and Zulu boys located in Glenwood, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
” Had some redwine this morning Tjopsticks?
@Speartackle: Oor ‘n 1000 dae?
@Playa: St Andrews are pretty good i think until they lose they deserve there place in the rakings
@Tjoppa: Vrystaat is Mampoer country. And you know what that does to your stomach. No wonder Bog goes around with such an uptight attitude. The Mampoer
@Woltrui: Please research what do they drink in Bloem because boy did that upset those boys in Grey. They are really not well.
@beet: Cricket only starting in a few weeks time. When you guys play Affies Grey and Monnas.
@BOG: Moet erken nou eers wakker geword. Nuwe nursie gister begin. Haar bietjie behoorlik verwelkom.
@Speartackle: DHS by 3. You’re a funny guy. Are you coming to GW on Old Boys Day?
@The Beast: Welcome back you ugly mother! Tend to agree with you on Glenwood. Wonder if they have the same problem with those Dutchies as the Charkies have in their squad. Those bastards can puck a teams cohesion up boetie. Suppose there is some extra English classes to get them rockspiders through the grades
Affies fixtures for the weekend: 3rd teams against Eldorain. 2nd Team against Pietersburg. 1 Team R and R for the game against Kloof on the 25th
@Tjoppa: Tjoppie some advice. Stay away from that red stuff boet. Look what it did to those Fishfoot friend of ours rugby. Down the gutter.
@Tjoppa: Wonder wanneer begin daai 1000 dae seriestoot weer eendag?

Drop the Hop
No, Grey does not stopped playing rugby. According to me of course.
Did Grey Bloem stopped playing rugby, or in order to get their season back on track cancelled, pulled an Eldoraign, on their organised TOP opponents and organised easier games. That is a known way to get the team first used to winning again. Must warn them not to play the Cherries. They are, according to a learned friend on the blog, supposed to be no2 ranked in the country. But according to me only no 1 in the Free State but about 10th in the country.
And on another note, are you all having fun with your Superbru picks this week. Easy huh???
Grab a pin, stick the tail on the donkey, probably be more accurate.
@GreenBlooded: c 8) 8) l! It was starting to feel like KZN cricket season all over again.
Weather Report:
Rain tomorrow morning in Durban and Maritzburg clearing up in the afternoon. No rain predicted at all on Saturday.
Hehehe!
Lol
@Maroon: Sal so maak kom so einde Jul begin Aug daar na julle toe. Moet so paar knopies kom maak.
Net vir jou inligting – jare gelede toe ou Dok gevra is watter Craven Week hy verkies seg hy vinnig.
@Maroon: Ons sien beslis daar!
@Ploegskaar: great prestasie. Gim kon net 17 spanne uitsit teen ons, waarvan slegs 3 o/14 spanne!
@Ploegskaar: sien jou daar. Hoor ek babysit altwee my kinders, so ek sal die een wees wat herltyd agter kinders aanhardloop!
@KP500: If they can get through that line-up unbeaten, they’d be well deserved of a place in the top 10.
@ ruggaman St Andrews fixtures so far
SAC vs Daniel Pienaar won 29 – 7
vs Pearson won 21-12
vs Bishops won 28-21
vs Helpmekaar won 31-12
vs Saints stithians won 34-16
vs Pretoria boys won 22-20
vs Graeme college won 23-22
vs Bradwag won 19-18
vs Cambridge won 59-10
upcomming fixtures Grey Pe, Queens, Selborne, Kingswood all in a row
i think they are inflated in the rankings to me they are a top 20 side not top 10, but hey are definitley no 1 in the Eastern cape right now.
@Queenian: Very unsporting of Marlow there.
Sure thing, will keep you updated.
@rugbyfan: Selborne go in with a 12 point advantage here. But the occasion might give the Dalians that extra push. This reunion is dedicated to Jack Rosenberg, a legend in the Dale corridors, who will be attending his last ever reunion. He has been a part of Dale and the ODU since he was in Standard 1 in 1936. Add the possible 100th victory, I’d say the boys have all the motivation to cause an upset here.
Dale by 2 points right at the end!
@Playa: Although i think you might have to wait another year or two.
@Playa: I think you correct there Dale could be the second one.
@Playa: Goodluck for the Dalians on Saturday but i think Selborne might just take this one.
@Umtata: I think Maritzburg College has over 100 wins against Hilton, Michaelhouse, DHS and Glenwood. So if the Dalians pulled this one off, we would be the second school to do so.I stand corrected.
@Queenian: I say Queens by 15
@Queenian: What do you think will have between Queens vs Kingswood on Saturday
@Playa: Well fixtures is a problem look at Queens this year they have played 9 games only one at home.
At least next year looks like Noord Kaap is on and Graeme maybe aslo a small chance of 8 teams going to play MC next year so lets see, which could become a yearly event.
@Playa: Ye i think you will be dead by the time they catch up.
Only problem with schools like Marlow and Brandwag they are very keen for say Dale/Queens to bring there teams to them but dont want to do it the other way like Marlow this year with Queens said they could not make the date but want Queens to go there next year.
Anyway good luck with Selborne send me some up dates on Saterday
@Queenian: Not a chance. In 1997, some pundits reckoned Selborne woul catch up within 20 years. Since ’98, Selborne is 19-11 up on the count. I believe I’ll be dead before Selborne catches up
I think Dale should also look into bringing back the Graeme fixture. Drop the Stirling fixture is space is an issue. And maybe add Marlow or Brandwag as well…seeing as we dont have Afrikkans opposition anymore after having discontinued the Dan Pienaar and Framesby fixtures.
@Greenwood: Ja the translation of my name is very funny….
@Klofiepa: Weet nog nie of ek by die game gaan wees nie!
@Jakes: Home ground advantage is with Garsies.
@Playa: No i wont be there a pity i think it will be a very close game and the way Queens have done this year they could either win by 30 or lose.
@The Beast: Good question is it an English school
Ruggerman
I have great respect for both Schools
@Umtata: Dale will have to pull a rabbit out of the hat to win this one.
I think Dale Under16A have a chance as well might be the only team to pull off a win on the day.
@Umtata: We got to be carefull in 30 yrs time that might be a 100 wins each.
@KP500: I hear Graeme vs Queens might be back on next year again.
@CyndiAtRugby: After 7pm I speak swahili …..
Dale College has beaten Selborne College 99 times during the 120 years that the two proud Eastern Cape schools have been playing against each other. No other school has done this in SA.
Played 185
Draws 23
Dale 99 Selborne 63
I’m the boys will be keen to make it 100 on the 152nd year of the school.
@star: If Blue* School’s 2nd and 3rd team would beat Pink* School’s first team – does it not make more sense that Blue* School’s 2nd team players should be better represented that Pink* School’s 1st team players??
*names have been changed to protect the innocent.
@Grasshopper: ## refers back to the thread where the management teams were listed in case he mis-read something. Confirms he did not ##
@star: I know what, they should make Grant Bell the head coach and selector, that should sort it out…
@ Greenblooded- there would have been cause for wonder if Westville had 10 B team boys in the final squads who were obviously not good enough to make the schools A team. Thankfully this is not the case here and the people in the know have little to complain about, As it turns out Strydom who I believe was theU15 DRSU man of the tournament last year was not even included. If you coach at Hillcrest you might know of him. I think Pedantic might have a case for the K scrummie and the issue of Simpson has been discussed at length.
@CyndiAtRugby: True True, the head boy in 1996 was Reginald Van Rensburg but he was as English as Prince William….John Smit, Juan Smith……..
@HORSEFLY NO.1: I have my green fly swatter. One of the best days in our household – Hubby is ex-DHS.
@GreenBlooded:
I wonder just how many of our surnames actually indicates our home language.
@ Klofie Pa- Who has home ground advantage saturday between Garsies and Klofies and what time is the main game??Could be a cracker to go and watch..
@Gungets Tuft: If rumours are to be believed – the most popular name for new-born English boys for the last few years …….. Mohammed!!
@GreenBlooded: I must disagree – most “english” schools in England are not English either …
@Grasshopper: Ya Boet. Heard plenty of Afrikaans spoken at College last weekend – both from the College boys and (skande!!!!) by the Michaelhouse boys. Sure to make the Pimms and Dry Lemon Society choke on their cucumber sandwiches!!! I wonder why no-one is questioning the dominance of Westville in the Grant Khomo squads – what with their disproportionate representation on the selection panel?
@GreenBlooded: Agreed, they all have to write exams in English so their English needs to be pretty good. The same should be asked of every other school….
@ruggaman: I don’t know and I care even less. I thought the colour of one’s skin or the language one speaks no longer mattered in the New SA. Clearly not.
@GreenBlooded: how many of those guys are 1st language English speakers if you know? Not trying to stoke the fire just interested?
@The Beast: Nope. It’s a South African school. Rainbow Nation and all of that.
English schools can be found in England.
GLENWOOD HIGH 1ST XV vs Durban High School:
1. Percy Mngadi
2. Kerron van Vuuren
3. Koos Tredoux
4. Seth van den Heever
5. Ntokozo Vidima
6. Waylon Hippolite
7. Mzwandile Mazibuko (c)
8. Jaco Coetzee
9. Kyle Gerhard
10. Curtis Jonas
11. Sphamandla Ngcobo
12. Akhona Nela
13. Nkululeko Mcuma
14. Miguel Martins
15. Morné Joubert
Is this an English school?
Wonder hoekom??
@Hanswors: Ek sal by hek C wees aan die regterkantste paal as jy wil kom hallo se Wors. Sal moet glip so gou moontlik!!
@Rhino: The story at the moment is June 20, day before break up day, a full day of fixtures vs Kearsney, a Mini Saturday if you like…………
@Greenwood: Not your favorite colours I’m guessing?
Hansvors
did my translation Afrikaans to English thing so I can fully understand your comments
had to smile when your bloggers name came up as “Hans Sausage ” !!!!!!!!!!!
Beet – please explain Ruggermans jersey
BIG SALE ON AT OSMANS
Fly swatters on special – buy one get 4 free
Also , School are going to have to buy earplugs for Saturday
@KP500: Have St Andrews played any other teams in the top 20? See them in the rankings but haven’t heard of any results other than a narrow win over Graeme ?
Think College need to be careful against KES this weekend. No room for complacency in SBR, form book goes out the window once the boys are on the field. Same for Glenwood at DHS. GW are on a good run of form but they were on a similar patch a few years ago when they went to Northwood and lost a scrappy game.
Westers
Glenwood did this about a month ago at Voortrekker – a most enjoyable day
most matches were staggered – we played schools never heard of
@Hanswors: Nee Hans… So maklik sal dit nie wees nie…
Well done to Northwood last night. They cleaned up, winning 9 out of 10 games played.
@CapeMan: hopefully SACS vs Bosch but got shopping etc to do so may only make 2nd half, damn Cape early starting times ;-)
@GreenBlooded: Preferably home and away each year too.
@GreenBlooded: Don’t we wish?????
@Grasshopper: which game will you be going to this weekend?
Me too its about 8 k away behind the Pavilion over the Ridge next to the university, great school with a proud history, boys wear green blazers with pride!
@Westers: I know another school who could give you a full set of fixtures…….
I usually complain that when Westville play the smaller schools the boys in the lower teams miss out on a game on the Saturday. Hats off to Westville and their opposition this week. A full list of fixtures, all being played at Voortrekker against Port Natal, Voortrekker, Alex, Amanzimtoti and Pmb Development. Well done to all concerned.
All we need now is for the Kearsney fixtures to be rescheduled.
@KP500: Don’t count your chickens before the hatch. Grey have a bye weekend and then we’ll see what happens at Lower.
groete
GROOTKROKODIL
I’m a hopper, I’m a hopper, I’m a hopper til I die, I’d rather be a hopper than go to Durban High! Swat the fly!
played Wednesday 15 2013 , Grey PE 33- Graeme college 26
Graeme again where the better side. This team must be the most unluckiest side ever, they lose narrowly to Grey, Selborne and ST Andrew’s where they were clearly where the better side pity they don’t play Queens or Dale as a fixture. But i feel sorry for Grey PE when the play the mighty College at lower. I’m smelling a hammering there. The only sides that pose a threat to St Andrew’s unbeaten run are Queens and Selborne. If they fail to beat college mark my words college will have an unbeaten season this year!
@Maroon: Net ‘n paar tye ter inligting:
o/14a 10:40 – Kasteelberg
o/15a 08:20 – Paardeberg
0/16a 09:30 – Paardeberg
o/19b 10:40 – Paardeberg
o/19a 11:50 – Paardeberg
@HORSEFLY NO.1: Horsy it sounds similar to the PBHS song. I’ll rather be a pebble than a ROCK from Affies High!
@Buffel: Great – some of us are also going to watch the laaitjies on Friday night from the Higher Ground (top field). 14A and 15A are playing at 5:40 and 6:50 respectively
@TheGoose: am there for the 2nd xv game which kicks off at 10.10 last time we met on the grass embankment behind the poles. year of 83 should be present.
I’m a horsefly, I’m a horsefly, I’m a horsefly till I die, I’d rather be a horsefly than go to Glenwood High !!!!!
@All Black: Ouch – never realised it was that much of a hiding. For anyone in Joburg that is interested in SBR and have not seen Kearsney play, come on down. The du Preez’s, Schramm, Reece-Edwards, Tedder and Lines are all great players.
@Queenian: Are you going to be at the QC-KC game?Never easy at City Lords, the Queenians better not use Kingswood’s recent results as an indication of anything.I do, however believe QC go into that game with a 10 point lead.
As for Dale-Selborne…massive game. I hope my boys have gathered some much needed confidence from their recent wins, albeit against weak opposition.Cant wait to see that clash.
QUICK, QUICK, QUICK WITH A VERY BIG STICK TO CHASE AWAY THE BIG BABOON!!!
@Rugbyman: Rugbyman sounds if you guys is looking for payback for the 100 something score against you a couple of seasons ago. Don’t kick the Klofies in the balls while they are down and out
What time the first team match?
Garsfontein vs Waterkloof the match of the day in Pretoria on Saturday! Will be a huge game especially since Kloof unexpectadly lost agains Noord-Kaap last weekend and they will want to bounce back hard! Its gonna be a gr8 game to watch between the two neighbours…
@All Black: Kearsney will definitely win easily, but it won’t be close to 76, as: a) Saints are very erratic, so last week was just a shocker day; and b) Saints dropped their star flyhalf (Innocent Radebe who played CW last year) for arguing with the coach….so I’m told. He will surely be back.
Nevertheless, I think that Kearsney will still win by a comfortable 25 to 30 points.
Ploeg, is julle beseerdes al reg?
@TheGoose: St Stithians took 70 plus against PBHS. Will be a massacre.
For any Kearsney Old Boys, there are going to be loads of us at the St Stithians game. Remember that the kickoff of the 1st’s is at 11:40. It will a great display of SBR!
Dale vs Selborne also a big game at Dale reuion. Dale need to pull this one off to get there season going otherwise things look bleak. Dale Under16A have a chance i think against a very ordinary Seleborne team.
Kingswood vs Queens back on has not been played since 1988 i think very important for both teams Kingswood have been quite poor but on paper have quite a good team, Queens have under performed and lost some close one on the road so far Queens have only played one home game this season from 9 games so a win here might just get there season back on track.
Good to see these two schools play each other again.
As far as i know they have played 43 times Queens have won 27 Kingswood 13 and 3 draws
Does anyone know when/if they are going to re-schedule last weekends match between Westville and Kearsney? and the other rained out matches of the other schools?
