I’ve been able to add two more names thanks to more assistance.
Interestingly they will be facing each other on Saturday as opposite numbers.
@Falcon22: Or conversely how the kids of players with great hand eye co-ords, often end up with the same skills and in the same position as their parent (flyhalf / fullback). I think you could be right that at times there is a degree of bias, based on who the parent is, be it sporting, business success etc. Its great seeing ex boks kids coming through, but think there may often be undue pressure on them.
@Vyfster: Never say never.
Just one question, if all those boys did not have well-known sports relatives, how many would not in fact be in the 1stXV?
@Vyfster: I’ll see your Marita Koch and raise the pot with Flo-Jo’s 100m and 200m records…which were also “aided” by a lot more than just a tail wind!
@Playa: yes, he is an prominent attorney, even councel for Bulldog lawyer Gerrie Nel
@tzavosky: what a story!!!
o ok tx@Smallies: o ok tx
@boerboel: Hannes Marais
nee hy was selborne
@Smallies: ek dink dis ANDRE Vvvvvvvoooos
@Smallies: yes no worries but Riis du Plessis father was kind of a Boishaaier!
@beet: Actually Grey Oom, I think, but I can’t recall that one.
@tzavosky: Talking about the name, one of the humorous encounters Oom Grey mentioned back on R365 was when his nephew (William) Small-Smith was involved in an on-field collision with I think it was a Boland player (Jermaine) Kleinschmidt.
@Playa: That’s him. Their uncle was a participant on this forum (or maybe it was on R365) when William was in matric.
BTW, there’s an interesting story behind the surname Small-Smith – it used to be Smith only in the distant past. Their grandfather was a car dealer in Bloemfontein and known as “Small” Smith, but customers got confused and assumed the surname was S-S and many cheques were issued to Mr S-S, which were refused by the bank. So eventually he solved this problem by officially changing his surname to S-S.
@Grizzly: zola bud het nog 2 rekords vanaf 1991 die myl,en 200m
@Vyfster: 45.01…baie stadiger as huidige SA rekord van 43.03 …in my beskeie opinie saam Gary Player se 9 majors die beste deur SA sportman…
@Vyfster: The young Ian sure has some gas in him. Now it’s clear where he got it from.
Is their father the lawyer, Ian Small-Smith?
Give Steve Hofmeyr a BELL’S!!!!! What a machine!
And here I was thinking it was an April Fools thread.
Steve was obviously not on top of his game in 2001/2.Just before Viagra came on the market?
@CharlesZA: I am sure Steve got it in more that that! Few non rugby boys elsewhere. Gill College has given decent gene pool to Western Cape!
Steve got 3 boys in same year group. Well done!
